6:50 ~ If they're on the next Titanic that sinks, their watch won't go bust at the bottom of the ocean, for the future generations to cherish decades later when they dive to search the wreckage. I thought this was obvious! 🙄

For me, EDC means just that, "Everyday Carry". It's what you carry on your person everyday. Not a backpack you may leave in your vehicle and only carry once and a while , or items in your vehicle that you never carry, but are in your vehicle for emergencies. EDC to me what you have on your person at all times.

Some people carry a backpack on their person once they leave the house. So that's an EDC as well for them 😉

The Cyber Tool M is a nice option too. It is smaller by removing the saw and file, and a couple of the options on the back side, but with the bits and pliers with everything else still intact, is a nice trade-off if you don't need those 2 things very often. In my mind, if I need those tools, I'm going to my Leatherman. Cheers!

I don't think it's underrated, it's just expensive and big. People don't want to spend that much on a SAK and tend to think, that a pocket knife this wide is uncomfortable.

4:07 I have and love the Sinn 104 but if you need to make micro-adjusts on your bracelet, I highly recommend either a strap or another watch with on the fly microadjust. Makes a huge difference in convenience.

  • @jamescgarrett6356
    @jamescgarrett6356 Рік тому

Thank you for a very informative, and well put together video.
I share several items/themes with you - I own a Sinn 104, iPhone/Apple Watch, Rovyvon torches and Swiss Army knives. My wallet, though, is one I hand made myself in a style similar to the Open Sea models (but modified to accept U.K. notes).
However, my 104 seems to take a back seat these days in preference to my Grand Seiko SBGN027 (high accuracy quartz is a winner for daily carry to me!) and I tend to carry the smaller Classic Swiss Army knife with Alox scales and the smaller Aurora A5x torch. I’ve made a small leather pouch/carrier for these last two that effectively acts as my key-fob. I’ve also made a small, brass version of a KeyBar for my 4 common keys.
For me, this is ideal. It easily fits in pockets/on my person. If I need anything more heavy-duty, I pack a pouch with a lighter, pen and notebook, Leatherman multitool, power brick, charge cables, zip-ties, paracord, small first aid kit, car cigaret USB and U.K. wall USB plugs, SIM tools and USB memory stick, and a small sewing kit in it. This gets dumped in my work brief case during the week, or switched to my satchel if I go out at weekends or in the evening.
Keep up the good work, and keep well :-)

In the coin pocket of my jeans. No idea how I am going to carry it in the summer though as I usually wear lighter pants (chinos, shorts). Probably either with some sort of pocket clip or I will opt for a different knife.

You do know that you can easily buy third party scales and pimp up your Cybertool (or any 95mm Victorinox)?
You can buy plain wood scales from Victorinox and put them on your Cybertool.
I have done similar with my Cybertool L, which now featured copper scales (with all slots for tweezers, pen, the pin and the toothpick, which I replaced with the Firefly).
So now I don't only have the most functional Victorinox by my side -- but also the most stylish one.

I switched from the A8 to the A5.
It’s the same torch, but has just red and white in the sides. The UV a gimmic imo, but the red and white lights are both useful.
Because of this you can access the side lights with 3 clicks instead of 4, which honestly makes a big difference l.
The side lights are amazing when camping. You can hang it from the ceiling. They’re also good for lighting up rooms.
Also I got the natural bulb 5000k. It’s more like an iPhone light lol. I prefer it’s considerably.
This will be my main torch for a while, although I’d like to see another button on the torch though. One for the main lamp, and another for the side lamps.

Carrying the cyber tool L or Swiss Champ on person is wild lol but I give you lots of respect.
Feel like a Leatherman bond + bit adapter & bits + Farmer X would be more natural? I know it’s heavier, but may be able to play Tetris with them better?
This is the first video I’m watching, so I am assuming you are dealing with European knife laws that’s why I say Leatherman bond. If not l, a good ole Wave+, Charge+, Rebar, Super tool 300, or Arc plus bits would be a more natural fit than a large SAK like that?
I just always assumed it would be weird having a handle that thick to cut an apple or open a box or use a screw driver or saw wood…

You can buy custom scales if you want.
But I agree with you (or you are unknowingly agreeing with me hahaha) I have been into EDC since I was 16 yo and once I discovered the online community I really always struggled to understand the need for 400 or 600 USD knives other than for collection and not using them around.
Victorinox knives are relatively cheap and very resistant for day-to-day use and even can be abused in the outdoors.
I wish there was a custom marker based in Europe to remove some of the useless tools and slim it down.
The cyber tool is on my list but I use a compact and a manager that has lived on my keys since I was 18yo.
For bit drives, I managed to buy a leatherman bit holder replacement and I have the bit kit. Soon I will buy the ratchet extender and it's probably the best and most compact solution I could find. Hope this can help and inspire others.

Whilst I'd got the Grain wallet on my wish list and then on order, it was your review which I kept coming back to, to see all of the details about it. The one thing I am disappointed with though is with my natural shell Grain wallet, there is no leather smell. It's the only shell in my collection that has no smell and I don't get that at all. However, it is the perfect set up for me. I get the cards I need in it; I too have a pen slotted in; UK cash in the back and just need to choose a key or something else for that slot. I use both a Watch Ultra and my steel analogue watch all the time. I'll never be without an analogue watch. I don't understand your mini rant about Rolex when you have a shell cordovan wallet which can be replaced with a £10 one and yet you enjoy your wallet! So why the comment about expensive watches? We buy them because we enjoy them, it's that simple. You'll never drive your car at 155 mph so why bother buying one that can? You don't. You buy it for other things you like about it. I don't bother with knives as in the UK it could become an issue. The cybertool knife is very tempting though. Interesting video thanks 😄👍🏻

Toby, I appreciate you and I really enjoy watching your videos. However, I don't know why you gave up on minimalism? These Victorinox models you mention are too big for me, for my pocket. You cannot prepare for every possible situation in life.
At first I carried the SwissTool in my backpack, but since I didn't use it for literally anything for a long time, I transferred it to the car.
Okay, you have your reasons, but I can write that I really liked your minimalism about EDC.
