    Thanks for another great video, Guido. As much as I’d like to see new quality cassette decks produced, I share your sentiment in that buying an older one and having it refurbished is going to likely work and sound excellent. I found a Nakamichi RX-202 deck a few years back, and after going through it, it’s given me nothing but great performance.
    As far as the Onzow stylus cleaner, I’ve always just used a stylus brush and occasionally a cleaning fluid. The stylus brush by Groovewasher is extremely soft and their fluid seems rather benign. There’s no alcohol in it (or at least I can’t smell it), and it works wonderfully.
    Thanks again, Guido. I appreciated this update video.

      So maybe the occ pure cable quality is a myth, I mean you have to compare positive and negatie resultsa for conclusions just comaparing occ cables and making the conclusion does not give any result it starts when you compare multiple pure and non pure cables to verify and the fact that a non pure occ cable beats pure cables is a strong hint for a myth.

    Thanks for the info regarding Onzow. I also used this for years, used a brush but stayed away from chemicals. When Fremer raised a flag about this product I gradually just quit using it. I know it took dirt off my stylus, I could see it. But wondered forever how it didn’t leave sticky goo on my stylus because I couldn’t see it. I never only used just the Onzow and now I don’t use it at all.

    Thanks, Guido, for another excellent video. I hadn't heard of SKW cables before I saw the video where you discovered they were not OCC. However how many cables have actually been analysed regarding the purity of thir copper? Very few, I suspect. So what I took from the video was that these were very well made, 6n copper cables with good listener feedback at a great price and so I brought a 4m pair. And I think they are great ! Yes, they were overzealous with their marketing, but this is the audiophile world, and overblown claims are common. Thanks for your work and, good job, SKW for doing the right thing, even if they needed a big push in the right direction.

    • @audioupgrades
      @audioupgrades Рік тому +1

      Purity is a different matter. High purity copper is readily available. To be OCC, it needs to go through a slow and expensive extrusion process, which is why cheap cables are never OCC.

      @@audioupgrades I am entirely aware of the single crystal nature of OCC and the difficulty of producing it. I never would have expected these to be OCC. My point is that when you buy most cables, you have very little idea of what you are getting because they have not been independently tested and, as we know, manufacturers lie and exaggerate. At least in this case we know it is relatively pure OFC and, for the price, they are a bit of a bargain.
      Also, as a cable skeptic, I doubt that the difference between good quality OFC and OCC is audible, though I admit, until blind tests of both exist I can't be sure.

    • @audioupgrades
      @audioupgrades Рік тому

      @@jimfarrell4635 The comedy here is that Anadialog actually believed that these cables were OCC and set out to prove it. Instead he got confirmation from the maker that they weren't 😄. I'm not a cable skeptic because I have good hearing. However, the diameter of the conductor makes a bigger difference than the decimal purity of the copper.

    • @jimfarrell4635
      @jimfarrell4635 Рік тому

      @@audioupgradesActually he got confirmation from the maker that they were OCC, including documentation. It was only when he sent them to a metallurgist that they were found ( unsurprisingly) not to be OCC. So props to Guido for being willing to admit he was wrong, and for continuing with his investigation despite reassurances from the company.

    I have a great suggestion for you how to find out if other manufacturers are using single crystal copper or not.
    Just submit a request to all companies that claim that their products are made of monocrystalline copper with evidence, send to them your SKW cables video, and they will all be afraid of your checks that you have already done and will either remain silent or answer and then you will be 100% sure of what they say and we will be of great benefit from this 😄

      That could be a good strategy at low cost! In any case I would truly like to understand if some famous companies claiming their use of OCC is true or not, Audioquest would be the first. Hi Guido.
    A little bit of this and a little bit of that in a video once in a while actually isn't such a bad thing. The videos gets a bit more action-like, and besides that some topics are not enough for a video on their own. I for one don't see any harm in gathering some topics over time, and make a video like this. Hope to see more of them from you.
    To channel, concentrate, focus etc etc the power of the community is a great thing. It does put some oomph behind our wishes and demands, and I would so much love to see you focus that power against the record industry. Unreasonable climbing prices and a growing load of bad pressings calls for a response saying: "Hey!!!!! Enough is enough". The upcoming recession will change things as mentioned, but a little push before that which points them in the right direction could speed things up, and prepare them for the money stream drying out if they don't get their act together. I know of several people who have stopped buying records for these reasons. Of course second hand information doesn't prove it, but since I'm one of them you now at least know of one with certainty. I won't buy as much as one new record before I know I won't come home with a piece of crap that I had to pay twice the price it's worth for. Like others I have put my foot down. It has simply gone too far. Their greed and scams are killing the format all over again.
    Stay awesome Mate.

    Thanks for the video! The SKW cables still are OCC in the Dutch Amazon site, unfortunately.. But.. At least they are more expensive now (sarcasm).. Pity, QED is the next I'll try..
    Sony seems to have changed. No more usually for products, but crap too and hoping to get away with it. Hmm..
    I bought a 1983 Sharp QT15 small boombox in a car boot sale. This is interesting. The tape mechanism has metal in it, the flywheel is metal. And it records! Well, at least, when I find a new fuse that works in it (it also works on a 9v supply where I was so stupid to assume it would be center positive. It wasn't). The replacement I got seemed to work, but after putting everything together, dead. The fuse blew for some weird reason. But, it has a din in- output! So it can record from external sources or play tapes and radio on an external amp! Much nicer than the Recording The Masters, even though I appreciate them trying..
    Will try comparing too. Can't play DSD (neither Naim nor dCS seem to decode the stream), but wav should be fine.

    Well, after fixing hundreds of decks I may say that they have gone for better. To achieve the highest quality and maintain it this technology requires enormous efforts. In this respect, DAT decks are less caprice to the azimuth, levels, etc. In the last case, I have a very well tuned Sony TC-K555esA. Everything was super fine unless I recorded tape with Dolby C and tried to play on other decks. And this tape did sound terrible.
    I had to use a microscope to check and make micro corrections to the tape path, even after using the gauge, mirror tape, etc. After that recording azimuth stabilized and now recorded Dolby tape sounds perfect on any other Dolby equipped deck. And I see lots of cases when factory tuning is very rough and in some cases very bad. Mass production just does not suppose enough time for super tuning. I own about two dozen of decks and fixed a lot. I know what I am saying. RIP cassette deck technology.

    Buongiorno Guido, maybe a stupid idea and not perfectly applicable nowadays with digital but just for the pleasure of discussion.
    Having a copy of a master tape done in the proper way, so with enormous high quality, would imply the possibility to make pirate copies in countries where, for example, that part of the catalogue is not distributed. Thus the need to have something with quality that may be comparable with all the other releases to avoid good quality pirate releases. Let's remember that we're speaking of a major and big names and not "niche" music like the one that may be released by Analogue Productions, Hemiolia or others. Maybe what was not considered is that audiophiles that buy master tape copies are really trained in recognising and asking for quality, so they didn't expect public complaints.
    But I stress again, this is only my humble thought for discussion and came this night while hunting for mosquitos that were not allowing me to sleep...

      @@garygranato9164 @garygranato9164 unbelievable how people are gullible, no doubt your countries educational system has left you behind.
      Have you learned just basic physics?, basic elementary electronics?, and technician level RF?(RF optional).
      OCC for audio has more in common with silly religious rituals than with audio signal transfer.
      go learn the basics of ohms law, not that difficult.
      The longer the cable, the higher the resistance, capacitance and inductance,
      the thicker the cable the lower the resistance, so if pure copper gives you slightly better conductivity, then just use thicker cables made from the cheaper material.
      capacitance and inductance at the short runs in a home, have no effect at audio frequencies.
      any one mentions "skin effect", is BSing, skin effect, capacitance and inductance, are indeed very applicable...only in RF frequencies.
      and no, cables do not have conduction directivity, and they do not behave like a diode.
      all a scam to make the gullible pay $$$$ for placebos that defy any science. Thanks for asking.

      Perhaps you didn't see the video on the cable analysis we did to which Gary was referring to: ua-cam.com/video/XVLR9EuCkgo/v-deo.html
      Much more science that normal measurements.
      I did an entire video on these topics, touching all these technical aspects: ua-cam.com/video/uVKFSquAhwc/v-deo.html
      Capacitance, inductance and the worse or all resistance are negligible in the cables qw use in our system simply because they are too short to be truly influenced by them. Dialectrics instead do play a role but once again not night and day difference at these lengths. In any case as explained in a recent video of mine ua-cam.com/video/rMfr8BG335w/v-deo.html
      measurements only tell us a part of the story, they indicate quantity not quality. We can infer some aspect of quality from quantity but not all aspects. At the end of the day I have noticed that some cables make a difference some don't, some do with specific gear and configurations and some change aspects that many don't pay attention to (reasonably). That is why we will never settle this debate until we can truly measure sound quality and not ither side parameters that little have to do with sonics in very short cables.

    Another reviewer had the same opinion but recently argued its at least not ethical not to release negative reviews and I agree on that totally. Most componies are strong enough to change bad products and in my opinion at least they should try to do their best on the other hand many customers even poor people who love their hobby and spend maybe even their last dime (yes there are people like this at least I was one of them) for a maybe even overpriced product which is just crap. In myy philosophe in case of doubt at least I take side with the non priveledged not with big business who just looks for money.

    I have worked with Sony in a few capacities in the past and recognized that they do have a habit of a/ departments/divisions do not coordinate as much as you would think e.g. Sony Music vs Sony Electronics and b/ when they do, they neuter one product to make sure it doesn't cannibalize another in the most bizarre ways (apart from PS2 vs DVD divisions where Playstation won against the tide for good reason). In this instance, there is little doubt that the Sony Legacy Master Tapes was neutered by their Digital Audio Signature division, their old-fashioned lawyers thinking people would use top-quality master tapes to create digital copies so set lower quality boundaries and their general push towards total digitization of everything. no doubt about it. It was probably a pet project of a pushy exec who didn't have the clout to make it what it should have been

      @@anadialog OMG, I thought DAC in my SACD is old (it is Sony from beginning of 2000) and this is a reason it sounds to harsh and bright. Well, I was wrong. By replacing the RCA cable now it sounds same good as my AKM DAC installed in the my Rotel amp. Resolution and 3D improved much more than I expected. And I am an engineer and always take this story with audio cables with good chunk of skepticism. I just can’t explain how cable can affect audio frequencies range so much. But it does. Speaker cable bring tight and more articulated bass.

    People theoretically have the power but as every society is split or non organized elites everywhere do more or less what they want there is not much difference between most dictatorships and all so called democracy. Exceptions are never an explanation for the rest and i am deeply convinced about this and as a master in political science i am trained to make such researches at least. Ok of course a company which reacts on critics fears reputation and or sales go down but this is the maximum consumers voters etc can achive.
