For anybody building in 1.18.2, it still works, you just have to enclose the whole thing in either solid blocks or tinted glass. I suppose you could extend the roof much, MUCH farther, but that's a bit of a hassle and makes it hard to fit the farm in a lot of places. For our lovely survival players (like myself) I placed torches on the levels and pre-loaded the top level with the water buckets. That first dispenser on the bottom level will activate the whole thing, so add that one last. The torches will be broken by the water, so you don't have to add the water once stuff has already started spawning and trying to kill you lol. I also built mine above a deep ocean since I am terrible at finding all the new caves and lighting them up properly, just saves a lot of hassle. I also second the 56 blocks thing that other commenters have mentioned! I'm above a deep ocean biome, which could be why that works for me, but still thought it was worth a mention.
I build it as well, but it doesn't work in my world. I'm in an ocean as well and used tinted glass. How high is your afk spot?

I usually smelt it all and give it to stonesmith villagers, u get so much emeralds
I had to dig out a huge hole for it as all of my base is underground, so I had resources galore

When building, I suggest placing torches on each floor before moving on to the next. After finishing the entire thing (which is super effective) put water bucket in the dispenser from up to down, so the water will be activated at the same time. The torches can then be collected and there will be no risks of mobs (especially creepers) spawning before the it is ready.
by the way, for those of you who used dark oak, I only needed five jungle trees. Those things are huge, 100 logs per tree.

EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED!
Farm insanely inefficient for me, here's my stats:
- 1.19.3
- Minecraft Server on Normal Mode
- Farm is at y=77
- Farm has 9 spawning levels
- 5 pieces of gunpowder per hour
Changes done:
- Roof is extended to 23 blocks in radius to account for creeper spawning changes 1.18+
- Lowered AFK area to 56 blocks above ground level to account for mob despawning changes 1.18+
The changes made quintupled the gunpowder collection rate to 28 per hour (pieces, not stacks)
If anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT:
Rates jumped from 28 gp/h to 1116 gp/h after switching from easy mode to normal mode. Was on a friend's server and difficulty was initially overlooked.

The need for netherite is what brought me to here.
Repeatably dying to exploding beds got boring.
what does gunpowder have to do with netherite? like just using tnt instead?
Place cobble on the 4th block away from the bed, use iron armor.. u loose one heart

Whilst mining the wood for the trap doors I came across a skeleton horse and then I walked up to it and then it was hit by lightning. Tbh I never thought that would ever happen to me. And the best part is that I managed to do a screen capture of it just in time.

Sometimes after thunderstorms trap skeleton horses spawn that turn into a skeleton riding a skele horse

Yeaaaa my friend and I struggled for like 3 hours gathering all the wood but the crafting doesn’t even make sense, you craft them with 6 blocks but you get only 2 trapdoors which is less then half a block

My math told me that it requires 8-9 stacks of logs for the trapdoors.

This farm works perfectly fine in 1.18.2. Ive seen comments saying you need to build the afk platform 56 blocks high ig. But when i did that i wasnt getting any spawns. I built my afk platfor 98 blocks above the magma blocks and started getting insane amounts of gunpowder and string.

After extending the roof works really awesomely on 1.20.2, with 11 layers we get over 2300 gunpowder/hour + around 800 strings/hour

No, it's of people who realize that if you put carpets and use cats instead you can have a larger and much more efficient creeper farm. This is nothing but a normal mob farm made into a creeper farm with trapdoors. I do have to respect the fact that he did it in Survival. Props to him.

Important tip: Add glass in a plus shape by the dispensers to prevent unwanted mobs from spawning getting stuck and consequently slowing down your rates.

Yes but by the dispensers you cannot place trapdoors otherwise the water will not flow down and mobs get stuck between the trapdoors and the dispensers. To prevent this place glass beside the dispenser so no mobs can spawn there

works flawllessly in 1.19.2 just had to incase the whole thing in tinted glass which took forever then i went up 127-128 blocks up from the magma block and it spawns so many creepers but i want to find out how to make it not spawn no ugly spiders been using this exact farm for like 3 years always has worked keep it up fam

Gunpowder is always useful to have. Shulkercraft is being really helpful with these tutorials.

Base ingridients:
22 stacks + 54 cobblestone
8 stacks + 50 logs (any type)
2 stacks + 36 slimeball (for magma)
1 stack + 18 blaze rod (for magma)
4 nether quartz (observers)
60 redstone
57 string (fishing rod and 5 bows for dispenser. Scaffolding also.)
57 iron ingot
39 stone (repeaters)
6 gold ingots (powered rails)
3 stacks + 48 bamboo
This list of ingridients includes all materials needes to craft every single block you need (even for making magma block). If you dont need any of those just don't use them (it's easier to find 41 magma blocks rather than craft them but I left those in just in case someone wants to craft them).
Great but u dont need that many repeaters since clock stops all the time and is useles. Add 2 Hoppers, 2 sticky pistons,1 redstone Block and some filler items for a hopper clock system.

Great build, but has a few problem. Most notably is that zombies end up spawning in the four spots around the dispenser with no trapdoor on the ceiling. This is solved easily by putting trap doors there and shifting everything down one block. That is, put the dispenser even with the floor. This will reduce the size of the platform by one block, but it does eliminate the zombies.
Just to help yall out, I did the math and you need 9 stacks of logs.

Great farm even in 1.19. Surrounded it in solid blocks and afk only 56 above magma works perfect. Had tons of netherrack and cobble/deepslate so easy and quick

Tip: mine ice with a silk touch pick and then place it where you want a water source block and then break it with anything that doesn't have silk touch and you will have a source block, it's really useful for farms cus you can have basically a stack of water source blocks in one space of your inventory
@Alessandro Pietropoli if you have a stack of ice you essentially have a stack of water sources, you place an ice block and then break it with something that isn’t enchanted with silk touch and it’ll turn into a water source

Probably not, bedrock is really different from the java version of the game, the one Shulker is playing in.
How much gunpowder do u get per hour?
A thing to take note for anyone building this in bedrock POST 1.16, this farm still works fine... The update introduced a greatly reduced despawn radius of 52+ blocks which is why your farm is not working, the afk platform is way too high now... Lower it to the center within 40 blocks of the farm and your farm will work fine again

I went afk for over an hour in the spot 123 blocks above the ground and got 0 gunpowder, hopefully this works

Tbh ive tested this and it cant be as small as 44 blocks, but yeah lower seems to work

@@cmolty9582 Actually my server is in 1.17, but it works either way. Just remember to extend the roof to approximately 23 blocks or more. What you can do is build it next to a nether portal or at the chunk of the world spawn as those will always be generated and active :)
You can also make it underground since now caves are way bigger if you want
the Redstone torch that you place to activate the powered rails also locks the hopper.

Edit: my mistake, i wasn’t afking in the center of the farm. I moved to the center and got 6 stacks in 15 minutes

make sure to light up the spawning area before building the roof or put water in before roof or you will have creepers on the spawning area that you will have to get rid of
Can I just say that the way these videos are made is simply amazing? Not only is there no commentary nor awful dubstep intro, there's good music, there is a list of materials, and clear, nicely placed instructions- done in survival mode! Watching other tutorials makes my head hurt on occasion, because the builder is moving super fast from step to step flying around, and I'm just sitting there like "Well how do I get up to that angle?".
Overall, probably my favorite first choice for a tutorial. Well done!
The best part about this is definitely the list of materials. So many other tutorials don't have that and I always end up doing back and forths because I'm running out. This saves me so much time.

Just a heads up in 1.19, extend the roof by 6 blocks, and build you AFK platform 56 blocks above the magma instead of 128. I wasn't getting any spawns til I did that.
