All the participants leave the cemetery after the funeral of madame Guerrero. Fernando returns to his office and his secretary, Marcia, announces him, that he missed call from Isabel. But Isabel didn't want to talk to him, she just want to know the ammount of the debt, she owes to Fernando. In Guerrero's residence, all the remaining funeral participants are leaving, and add to condoling, they remind Bernarda and Benigno about amount of the debts, that family Guerrero has with each of them. Isabel goes downstairs and suspects problems. Bernarda tries to calm her down. In office, Emilio and his father discuss Emilio's plans to marry Isabel and the will of helping her. Emilio'S father doubt a lot about Isabel acceptance of Emilio. Doctor Pintos visits Isabel in Guerrero's residence on her request. He informs her, all that left after madame Guerrero's death, are debts and all the companies went bankrupt. When Pintos has left, Bernarda enters the library and can't believe, what she just has witnessed. In Salinas' residence, there are another of lovely nowhere going talk between Teresa and Fernando. Isabel summons all the employees and informs them, that one of them must go and will be fired. Scared Cella asks, if she is the one. Isabel rejects that and asks Benigno to be present in kitchen in five minutes. Emilio's father informs him, that Isabel Guerrero is completely out of money and suggests, that Emilio should marry Teresa Salinas instead of Isabel Guerrero. Emilio rejects this "offer". Bernarda and Isabel talk about two hot topics - zero cash, no money available, and how to get rid of Benigno. Bernarda suggests, that firing Benigno is not necessary, but Isabel insists on. Cella talks to Benigno and is still in shock, that Benigno must leave. Isabel enters the kitchen and departure discussion begins. Teresa and Juanjo returns to Salinas' residence and Juanjo is impatient for getting the promised amount of money. Departure discussion between Isabel and Benigno came to an end and Benigno leaves to collect his clothes etc. Isabel is kind of moody, for what she just did. Bernarda tries to comfort her, but Isabel leaves to her bedroom. Fernando chats with Antonio in front of horse-racing club, but both of them spot Isabel staying at a distance. Antonio leaves, granting Fernando opportunity to talk with Isabel. Meanwhile, Bernarda calls in Salinas' residence, wanting talk to Fernando. She doesn't say her name and after knowing, Fernando is away, she hangs up the phone. Fernando and Isabel talks in horse-racing club, and instead of talk it reminds of two monologues. Fernando tries to hold conversation, but Isabel goes stright to the point - postponement of paying the debt, she has with Fernando. She leaves riding the car, but the way out is temporaily blocked by car, driven by Teresa Salinas. Teresa leaves the car and talk with Isabel, asking for Fernando. Isabel returns home and Bernarda tells Isabel frankly, that the best and only solution to the financial troubles, is marrying Fernando Salinas.

Me da mucha pena BENIGNO, 30 años sirviendo a la familia, tan mayor y ahora a la calle. No hay que tener corazón para hacer éso. En la vida real es igual cuando muere el patrón los hijos no son considerados con los empleados que tantos años le han servido.

Es curioso como se pensaba antes, Bernarda convenciéndola de que Fernando Salinas era su salvación, un hombre adinerado tenía que ser la solución, cuando ella tenía estudios y preparación, estudió en los Ángeles y sabía varios idiomas, de sobra podría haber salido adelante ella misma 😅

Esta novela me da mucha nostalgia ...tenía como 9 años cuando veía las propagandas y aunq no recuerdo de q trataba o si la veía ...cuando escuchaba la canción me hacía pensar en mi mamá ,q no estaba conmigo y la extrañaba mucho
