Congratulations you are the first contractor on youtube that understands how drain pipes work.. Far too many are wrapping the pipe in cloth. A recipe for disaster.

I am planning to build my own 3ft tall 50ft long retaining wall using the 18x12x8 block. The trench will be 18 inches wide and about 14 inches deep. 6 inches of #57 gravel base, and 1 full block buried. My question is should I use #57 for the base, or crusher run gravel? I want to avoid getting 2 different materials if I dont necessary need to. Price different for my area is $40 for #57 and $38 for crusher run per cubic yard, so not much difference in price. Also, is 2 inches of granite sand recommended for easy leveling of first row?
Hello Mick, It is a flexible perforated pipe. Yes, it is frequently used for irrigation purposes. In straight wall applications, a schedule 40 PVC pipe, perforated, with holes down is recommended. Thank you!
"clean drain rock." Not for long... that "filtration bed" is going to fill up with sediment after a couple of rains and be useless. What you need is a "gravel burrito," full wrap of drain rock enclosed within filtration fabric. Uses a little more fabric but it's a job done properly.
@@MathCuriousity Sure, but imagine the alternative, which is fine soil which is solid all the way through. Once the soil is saturated, there is little incentive for the water to move in any direction. If you have a fabric envelope around your perf pipe, with a gravel interior, you can think of that as a "low pressure zone." the fabric is full of soil, but on the other side of the fabric is space for the water to migrate to, and move away from the area. Movement will be relatively slow, but the hydrostatic pressure builds up in the soil, and providing that 'air space' around your perf pipe gives that pressure a place to go.
The rock act like a filter and also allow the water to pass through alot faster than dirt, doesn't it make more sense to put the stone on top of the pipe and the pipe directly on bottom above the fabric? Because with the stone on bottom of the pipe it seems that the water will directly sink pass the pipe as the stone allows easier sinkage. Which raises a question why put a pipe if the only way the pipe will work is when the water completely fills the stone section about a foot. Doesn't make sens
I suppose you do want some space below the pipe to catch crap that is not filtered, this probably keeps the pipe cleaner from the finer dirt, but maybe only 1 layer of small filler stones high? Like you said, more stones over the pipe and then that cloth should go over the filler stones to stop dirt from entering the stone filter area...
Hello Lawrence! These are our Suprema wall blocks. Follow this link for more information : www.techo-bloc.com/en/products/suprema-split-face/ Thank you!
But I remember Techo-Bloc is a company engages in landscape projects. Why not to use some preformed drainage kerbs to make things easier? It's a little complicated, right?
Hello! Since every project is different, a precast drainage curb may not be the easiest approach for us as a high-production manufacturer as many options/models would likely be required. We appreciate the suggestion though. Thank you!
What if we can offer the high quality and competitive precast drainage curbs? Will it be a great market in your country through collaboration with your company?Thank you.
Dear friend, the email with our catalogues include precast drainage curbs, geotextile, geogrid and geocell has been sent just now. My email is team6@dinggin.cn. Also it attaches other of my contact information for easier contact. Thank you so much.

what an entitled selfish generation we have here. You have a job to do and a supervisor to dish out the work. If you don't like it go work for somebody else. learn some discipline and stop acting like babies.
You spend all that time and energy making sure everything is just right, but you don't make sure when you daylight the drain pipe it's centered between the two blocks, it's coming out on the one side and the other side is filled with concrete it looks like s***.

But what about the fabric he used atop the rock? Surely that can clog and just leave water sitting there
you are mistaken from the perspective of basic hydrodynamics and practical application. ua-cam.com/video/JhmVT9FO72I/v-deo.html

Thank you Techobloc for the very informative video.

Personally I’d go with the crusher run. Granite sand should work well as your first row bedding layer. Regardless it sounds like you’ll build it well.
It’s easier to level and compact crusher run compared to #57.
A 30 second explanation of this process with diagrams and arrows showing the water flow would be great. Show it at the beginning and end of the video.
At 3:35, is that black plastic tube the type with thousands of holes used for irrigation purpose?

5:12 that is a mortar mix and not a concrete mix... you could have simply added some of that stone to your mortar mix and had a concrete mix...
Can regular 4" PVC pipe be used?
Will this not freeze in the winter? Not being 4 feet
What do they call a tamper like that. I need one.
Nice video. Good technical information. Very useful. Thanks.
i love your hand tamper where did u pick it up

I was wondering about that. I live in Florida where the sand is like flour and it rains 6 inches in a storm. I guess hope for the best.
Wonderful comment I was wonder the proper process after the last step he shows. Never said if he puts rock on top, leaves it how it is. Thank you
Why use fabric at all?! Doesnt it end up clogging ??

U make hole on the pipe surfaces?
What happens to the water that goes below your black material and gravel. Where does it seepto.
I have the same question. Could anyone please answer this. I am also planning to do DIY project soon. Thank you in advance.

Okay, dumb question. But where does the water enter the drain pipe to begin with? Someone please help, I'm about a month away from diy retaining wall.
Is that stone clean?
Thanks for the info!
You're welcome!
Can someone please tell me the pipe will have holes at the bottom to take water in.Right
This pipe has slots cut all around it so it doesn’t matter how it’s put down
