Just to give people perspective, Deep Blue could run about 11 Gigaflops per second. As of 2018, the iPhone X has a dual chip each running about 600 GFPS, or 1.2 teraflops per second. The Sunway TaihuLight is around 93 petaflops per second. Put another way, Deep Blue is an ancient dinosaur. Cool for historical principles, but that's about it.
Despite all the controversies and the Kasparov's disputes of the match, IBM immediately dismantled Deep Blue and did not open the machine and its software for auditing, to validate, if at that time, a computer is already capable of calculating positional advantage and thus making positional moves. As a programmer and a lover of the game of chess, I believed that G. Kasparov was never defeated by a machine nor Deep Blue in 1997. But it doesn't mean that he could not be defeated now (2011).

@binoyrakesh Exactly. In order for a machine to evolve beyond the point of its creator in my opinion it must develop sentience. It must develop the ability to change its programmed algorithms, knowledge, etc. It must evolve just as we do, taking every new experience and adding it to our existing experiences to create something new. Is it possible? Sure. In the future who knows what will happen. But you must ask the question - if a machine becomes sentient, is it still a machine?
Thanks for sharing this stuff. This was great ... the whole story behind but the IBM bullshit. Someone who knows the soundtrack name of the vídeo, please. At least I could find it as the theme of Game Over Kasparov Vs Machine... I love it.
@SmashApple90 No he actually doesn't, in terms of record. Magnus has a record of 2835, while Kasparov still has the record with 2851. However, Magnus seems very able to beat this record in 2012 or 2013
I agree. That they gave no logs, the year before destroyed by Kasparov. It doesn't add up Also refusing a rematch. No doubt now it would be all good with the depth theses beasts can do, but back then it felt like bad sports on the PC side.
Sure he would be, a human and computer combo can beat anything... even a master (somoneone that kasparov would win 90% of the time against) to go with the computer and it would be unbeatable.
Elo is a measure. Not a rule. Fischer could probably beated all in the same world. Elo has inflation. You need to look at it relative Fishcer 2785 odd - no players close ( less < 160+ ) Karpov made 2780 post Kasparov 2851 Carlsen 2840+ Basically there is no true reading here. One commentator said, when Magnus can destrory a competition like Gary or Fischer I think that is the rub. To dominate first in your own world Magnus is the best ..... but not by far.
@MegamanLegacy i don't think it will happend. IBM declined the proposition of remach and ended deep blue program after the match. Deep blue is definitly the winner.
Fischer thought that the Russians were conspiring or teaming up against him in tournament play so he didn't feel like playing against them. I think that Fischer simply avoided them because he didn't feel confident enough. Kasparov never dodged anyone to my knowledge.
This game was stupid. All they did was use a very powerful computer to check their moves several places in advance and then chose the best move. The computer itself did very little thinking.
Of course it's on BBC. You will never see anything related to intelligence, intellectualism, and the over all aspiration of knowledge and wisdom in U.S. society. It's all about beer, boobs, sports, and what new model iPhone I can buy in order to fit in with everyone else.
Is it not possible this inflation business is a hoax? In the age of Fritz and Rybka, more players can become better (by studying positions and playing against a strong opponent). Is it not fair that the best of 200 great players is rated higher than the best of 100 players?

After 2006 when Fritz beat Kramnik quite badly, it was clear that machines have taken the top spot.
Id love to know how well a computer would do playing poker.

UA-cam removed the full movie..
Disappointing bc I can't find it on Netflix, in Australia either. :(

"Forget the $300,000, the future of humanity is on the line... Now the weather."
This Kasparov is GREAT!
The future of Humanity wasn't lost with this match G.Kasparov vs Deep Blue, but enriched instead!

The voice over at the beginning of the full documentary is done in a whisper and is very creepy!!!
kasparov is genius...he beated the computer in first match 4-2......NO ONE exept him can do this...
They threw the first game on purpose. The whole thing was rigged
that last look from Garry tho
Here's Tom with the weather.
don't you just love how a guy gets all worked up over a game of chess?
Also, there have been some ELO inflation. Just a few months ago there was 3 players over 2800 ELO.

Seems like Kasparov has an excuse for every single defeat in his career
Kasparov is the best!

It's a better movie than the trailer

exciting
Oh, in a tournament. Thought you meant Topalov defeated him in a championship match. Apologies and thanks for the link
Who is Short? Does that question answer your question?
Bobby Fisher was behind that computer.
you are so articulate...
which one is better, Kasparov or Short?
Me dio escalofríos
Sure he would be, a human and computer combo can beat anything... even a master (somoneone that kasparov would win 90% of the time against) to go with the computer and it would be unbeatable.
"The Mozart of Chess" have a name and its not Carlsen. Its Fischer.
Who won?
Elo is a measure. Not a rule. Fischer could probably beated all in the same world.

Deep blue is definitly the winner.
Hmm, no T-800's running around yet.
what are you talking about? That was a 2-1 and deep blue won... in 1997
@Gonadsoo It is a pretty good documentary, don't get tricked by imdb ratings for instance.
Fischer thought that the Russians were conspiring or teaming up against him in tournament play so he didn't feel like playing against them. I think that Fischer simply avoided them because he didn't feel confident enough. Kasparov never dodged anyone to my knowledge.
They may have actually teamed up though
@SniperShot891 Those terminators are just the tip of the Ice berg. We would have something more along the lines of sonny from I, ROBOT.
they had to make a fucking computer to beat him, kasparov, my man!
i know... -.-
and it end innnnn 1997!!!! with the 6 game that deep blue won
and i still don't get what you are talking about...
no problemo
Kasparov gave up.
...and that was the beginning of the Machine Empire.
This game was stupid. All they did was use a very powerful computer to check their moves several places in advance and then chose the best move. The computer itself did very little thinking.
Alguien vio la pelicula Tron?
if you can define 'smart' then you are close
now the weather : )
However, Kasparov was the world champion for 15 years.
Magnus is yet to accomplish that...
The narrator: and he won’t.
@OleMarUlberg Remenber me the discussion Juggernaut vs The Blob xD
Knowing the way some Americans work would believe that IBM cheated on Kasparov after game 2
@brotherluke1
personally I think faith in either is a terrible idea they both have a history of failing people when they nee them most.
no he wasn't

@TheNameTooSexyToShow i feel sarcasm in ur comment :O XD
@bumtaksi Eat Popcorn!
Is Kasparov smarter than Albert Einstein? I want to know
No.

They play chess games with us and beat us, whats next ? I hope we can controll those machines before they take controll of us.
full loser, full loser loop? video damaged.
