Just to give people perspective, Deep Blue could run about 11 Gigaflops per second. As of 2018, the iPhone X has a dual chip each running about 600 GFPS, or 1.2 teraflops per second. The Sunway TaihuLight is around 93 petaflops per second.
Put another way, Deep Blue is an ancient dinosaur. Cool for historical principles, but that's about it.

Despite all the controversies and the Kasparov's disputes of the match, IBM immediately dismantled Deep Blue and did not open the machine and its software for auditing, to validate, if at that time, a computer is already capable of calculating positional advantage and thus making positional moves.
As a programmer and a lover of the game of chess, I believed that G. Kasparov was never defeated by a machine nor Deep Blue in 1997.
But it doesn't mean that he could not be defeated now (2011).

After 2006 when Fritz beat Kramnik quite badly, it was clear that machines have taken the top spot.

@binoyrakesh Exactly. In order for a machine to evolve beyond the point of its creator in my opinion it must develop sentience. It must develop the ability to change its programmed algorithms, knowledge, etc. It must evolve just as we do, taking every new experience and adding it to our existing experiences to create something new. Is it possible? Sure. In the future who knows what will happen. But you must ask the question - if a machine becomes sentient, is it still a machine?

Thanks for sharing this stuff. This was great ... the whole story behind but the IBM bullshit. Someone who knows the soundtrack name of the vídeo, please. At least I could find it as the theme of Game Over Kasparov Vs Machine... I love it.

@SmashApple90 No he actually doesn't, in terms of record. Magnus has a record of 2835, while Kasparov still has the record with 2851. However, Magnus seems very able to beat this record in 2012 or 2013

I agree. That they gave no logs, the year before destroyed by Kasparov. It doesn't add up
    Also refusing a rematch.
No doubt now it would be all good with the depth theses beasts can do, but back then it felt like bad sports on the PC side.

Sure he would be, a human and computer combo can beat anything... even a master (somoneone that kasparov would win 90% of the time against) to go with the computer and it would be unbeatable.

  • @kinkokonko
    @kinkokonko 12 років тому

Elo is a measure. Not a rule. Fischer could probably beated all in the same world.
Elo has inflation. You need to look at it relative
    Fishcer 2785 odd - no players close ( less < 160+ )
    Karpov made 2780 post
    Kasparov 2851
    Carlsen 2840+
Basically there is no true reading here.
One commentator said, when Magnus can destrory a competition like Gary or Fischer
I think that is the rub. To dominate first in your own world
Magnus is the best ..... but not by far.

@MegamanLegacy i don't think it will happend. IBM declined the proposition of remach and ended deep blue program after the match.
Deep blue is definitly the winner.

Fischer thought that the Russians were conspiring or teaming up against him in tournament play so he didn't feel like playing against them. I think that Fischer simply avoided them because he didn't feel confident enough. Kasparov never dodged anyone to my knowledge.

This game was stupid. All they did was use a very powerful computer to check their moves several places in advance and then chose the best move. The computer itself did very little thinking.

Is it not possible this inflation business is a hoax? In the age of Fritz and Rybka, more players can become better (by studying positions and playing against a strong opponent). Is it not fair that the best of 200 great players is rated higher than the best of 100 players?
