- Financial teacher and a great influence on my life, Dave Ramsey often talks about eating beans and rice, rice and beans as a way of eating for very little money. So i thought I'd actually do it and see how it tastes. The answer is it tastes great especially if you add some simple ingredients. Try it, save your money, and let me know what you think

Just moved into my own apartment living off disability. Current living off brown rice and beans along with some veggies and fruit. Saved a shit load of money and it taste good.
You could not eat better.
Aww well hope you are doing ok.
I learned a trick when I was in college, get a summer sausage stick and cut a "coin" from it each meal and cube it up and add it to the stuff. Meat as flavoring its great!
Nice forearms...popeye!
-still need vitamin b12, I use soymilk silk brand 120%/serving
-soothes mouth cuts/sores....
Same here.
Rice and Beans. Beans and Rice! I'll bet you're living like NO ONE else!! WhoooHoooooooo!!
Your spending like your in congress!
@@Daniel-ht4wr stop being a morooooon! *angry boomer Ramsey intensifies*
So that later he can live and give like no one else. Better than I deserve!
Love the title, I literally was googling rice and beans the Dave Ramsey way. Looking to save mooney.
Pinto beans cook with the water you boiled them in, equal portions once cooked. Serve with fresh chopped onions, cilantro , serano chilie, tomatoes and sour cream, yummy!
I remember cooking my meals. Beans for the whole entire week, sometimes two. Save a crap load of money. But cooking them takes a damn long time, but worth it.
John Texas How do you thicken the beans? Do you use less water?
heyitsablackguy you can add a little mashed potatoes.
@@heyitsablackguy9553
Do like John said, and cook the full pot. Freeze the cooked beans in individual portions that you can thaw and season as you wish on the day. Take it from a Brazilian, it's crazy efficient.
Smash half of the beans and stir.
Dave Ramsey WAS JOKING?!!! You could've told me that BEFORE i ate it for YEARS!! LOL
You just made my day!
If you use a lot of rice try this. Next time you are in the supermarket ask the deli or bakery department for one of their food grade plastic buckets. This is a bucket with a tight fitting lid that they get coleslaw, potato salad, cake mix and icing in. Then buy a 20 pound or 8 kilo bag of rice for around $12 bucks. Keep the rice in the bucket, take some out as you need it and keep it in the cupboard in a juice pitcher for easy pouring or just a mason jar. This is the most economical way to buy and store rice. One big bag will feed one person 2 meals a day for a year. Or last a family of 4 for 3 months.
Beans and Rice , Rice and Beans! Let's all get out of debt
Black shirt:"Are we going to do the whole pirate thing? Yea let's not do that"

I asked my granddaughter once what she wanted for dinner. Out of all the things she could've thought of she said rice & beans.
NICE job here! Yep, cooking/preparing your OWN foods & meals is so important to saving $$ *and* your health! I would only add that after soaking your dried beans overnight, you need to DRAIN & RINSE them, and then go ahead and cook them up in fresh water. I cook up a pot of beans (OR lentils which require no soaking and are just as inexpensive as dried beans!) every Sunday for the week ahead. Yay!
Can you freeze it?
Lentils are super underrated. Amazingly cheap food.
This is what the Brazilians eat everyday. Haha

I'm eating some white rice and black beans right now. It's so delicious.
At home we make rice , honey , and soy sauce and all purpose seasoning , it’s sooooo good ! If we have extra we can put some chicken in as well but it’s good on it’s own ! Great budget meal
Thank you so much for this!!!
love this
Black Beans and Rice (white or brown) are an excellent nutritional combination. BUT...SKIP the sugar. There's already enough calories/carbs in the rice.
Best way, IMHO: Cook some chopped onions in tablespoon of olive oil for a few minutes, add 1 or 2 cloves of chopped garlic and cook for 30 seconds, then add the pre-cooked black beans (or drained/rinsed can of black beans). Add about 1/4 cup of water (or stock, or bean water). Cook for 15-20 min (or longer if you prefer softer beans). Salt/pepper to taste, and serve with rice and cooked green veggies (broccoli, or Kale, or spinach, etc.).
Thanks for the good ideas
This saved my college life
+VictoryPiss Glad to help. yay
Beans, beans, good for your heart.
I love rice and beans i use to make that all the time or make it a soup i havent done it in a long though. It us super cheap and delicious
That lady just has to be the center of attention
Attention is female currency.
@@wotanmituns33 that’s unfortunately true. Toxic femininity.
Going to try that! :)
thanks, send a pic
I’m going to try making this and see if my mom likes it
Excellent! Do you have a written copy of this recipe? I'm on the Dave plan too!
What's your household income?
YAS!! You had me at "Dave Ramsey" and "Beans & Rice"...!! THANK YOU for doing this! For the record though, if you're shopping Aldi, you can add polish sausage for pretty cheap and that definitely helps the taste too. LOL!
Thank you. we love Aldi
You have to always well rinse dried beans and remove dirt and rocks. 😩 Add a boulion cube to the cooking rice. Or use some chicken broth with the water. And cut up green pepper and or onion . After serving add a splash of vinegar. And mild hot sauce. Tobasco is too expensive and too hot.
I would rinse the rice well then cook it in a large volume of water (like pasta) to reduce the arsenic content. The brand/type of rice would also have been chosen for the same reason.
Does your stomach adjust after eating everyday? Beans are nutritious but most people have digestive issues. Are digestive enzymes enough? I’ve bought everything to try this method.
He talks about healthy cheap living then messed it all up with the cups of bacon and brown sugar.
I make mine with bacon grease, chili powder, garlic and hot sauce.
Amazing!!!
A quarter cup of bacon is 4 slices, which would make about 1 slice per person. He also only used 2 tablespoons of brown sugar which is half a tablespoon (25 calories) per person. That doesn’t make the entire meal unhealthy, with that small a serving of bacon and sugar. He also mentioned you could omit it.
*cooks a cup of white rice*
*adds half can of salsa beans*
*is done*
I don't add all of that stuff to my legumes and grains, only salt and then tabasco to taste after it's cooked, it's delicious enough for me.
The lady interrupts too much.
She's just full of energy from not knowing Wtf hunger... Real hunger is! I'm sure she'd joke about wasting food..and spew that annoying ass giggle... .like its not a real worldwide epidemic... Smh
we eat it a lot in Brazil
I lived in Brazil for a few years and I have yet to have good rice and beans as I had there.
There isn't. Nowhere. I'm not leaving Brazil purely because of this.
I love spicy beans. Peppers are cheap and will make a pot of beans awesome.
Dave Ramsey lead me here.
Jeeeeez... People who are looking for the real recipes... Please type up Jamaican Peas and Rice cookup.. The meat spoils the taste.. the sugar spoils the taste.. worried about gas.. Use some ginger.. use coconut milk.. it's very few ingredients used to make this dish..fewer than this..
I've been eating mostly rice, beans, and vegetables to save money for a few months and I intend to keep going but now I'm treating several nutritional deficiencies with supplements, keep in mind that this isn't a complete diet.
I am seriously cooking challenged. What type of beans and what do you cook the onions in...butter?
those are pinto, and yes butter.
and I would add garlic powder to the beans.
i think its kidney beans and either butter/oil.
no my bad its red beans.
marcjtdc Thanks!
You're going to have that BMW paid off in no time.
When Rob said "leave the beans over night" would it be soak in water?
never mind
The beans take time to cook. Leaving in the water helps. The correct thing is to discard the first water out, as it also removes toxins. Regards from Brasil
You truly can eat for 20.00 a week and save a ton of money to pay down debt
Is there a written version?
Sorry, which recipe are you looking for? There are many written versions at www.cookingfordads.net
Here was me thinking dave ramsey meant just plain rice and beans and i thought he was being a little too intense lol. I knew he was joing but my mind didnt show me anything but super plain just boiled in water rice and beans 🤣
I cook my beans on the pressure cook.
Last time Rob was featured on this show j/k
Best meal to have after a long day of spending money like you're in Congress.
The second he added the bacon onion and sugar it stopped being Dave Ramsey R&B's
LoL!
not sure why the need for brown sugar? Sugar of any kind gives me bad acid reflux so im leaving that crap out
I bet with inflation it’s probably like $10
Rice is Still cheap
Wow, 28 Cents a meal! You could make a food truck and sell Beans and Rice for a dollar a bowl. Though I'm not sure if people would buy it just because of the cheap price. Maybe in the right place it could work.
Yeah, that's my next million dollar idea. The food truck is a tempting idea on a variety of levels, but I think I will forego for now.
Sell Bar-B-Q Ribs and Chicken with beans and rice as a side dish, also corn bread or sourdough bread.
0:43
This looks good, but would add ground beef to the beans maybe.
I agree, but that would raise the price significantly. Its amazing how good they were without meat. And I'm a meat guy.
Q
A fried egg fits perfectly. And keeps the dish cheap.
The idea is to be cheap.
Ground beef is hella expensive and beans have plenty of protein, thats the point of only beans and rice, Beef is like 6-7 dollars a pound here in Mississippi, WAY too expensive
geeze stop interrupting the cook!
They're sharing a plate. Corona code alert.
Gordan Ramsey would be furious
rexes92 Dave Ramsey would be happy
Gordon can stay with his ultra-expensive repertoire. Man is sweet as a sugar biscuit and has the leadership of a Drill sergeant, but he can't make poor people's dishes to save his life.
@@DinnerForkTongue Exactly! love Gordon but he not gonna help my ass get out of debt, not even close lol, following his advice i will be living under a bridge in about 6 weeks time
Strange how simple things taste so good maybe our body is telling us something, maybe that we are not supposed to eat meat everyday
How about just not supposed to eat loads of processed stuff
Check for stones in the raw beans.
Beans give you gas.
MJ Sanchez just use Ginger..
Not if you soak them first.

You need to drain off the water. Completely. This is done to get rid of the toxic contents, that aren't humanly digest-able.
Read up bout 'lectins'.
I'm pretty sure I did, or at least I meant to, except when i reserve some of the bean water which is a pretty standard practice for bean recipes. Thanks for watching.
+BinaryMcAwesome This is old, but the soaking water or pre-boiling quick soak method takes care of that. You drain that water and rinse the beans before the actual cook. The reserved cooking liquid is ok
You need to take your own advice. Soaking does not destroy lectins, the lectins are only destroyed (reduced) when the beans are througly cooked. What soaking does do, however, is reduce the phytic acid content of the beans.
Beans have filled a meat void in my life for so long . Jardly ever eat.meat .
as if i have a single bacon strip to buy at my market
Brazil have rice and beans over five hundred years. A north american chef on TV: Hey! Look this I invented.... c'mon....
I'm not saying I invented it. But it is good.
And? Ancient Romans and Greeks ate rice and beans over two-thousand years ago, and probably a hell of a lot longer than that.
Also, he never implied he invented anything.
@@gamesgeargadgets722 The Greeks and Romans did not eat rice and beans. Beans are from South America and rice is from Asia. Rice was brought by the Arabs. Greeks and Romans didn't even know what it was.
@@RaphaelMartins80
Alexander the Great and his armies had made it all the way to India and of course had contact with rice there. After that, there was trade with Asia until the fall of Constantinople. Rice wasn’t cultivated there, but it was traded for.
Also, there are several types of beans and legumes that were consumed in the ancient Greek and Roman times such as Fava beans and Garbanzo beans.
@@gamesgeargadgets722 Ok Alexandre the Great invented rice and beans, Napoleon invented barbecue and Marie Antoinette invented brioche. I like this world you invented. When you get to the part where Nero invented Pizza, you wake me up here...
Must have green pepper celery and onions Cajun holy trinity
You still need to buy veggies, fruit and spices. I spend about $3 a day. You try eating beans 3 times a day forever. No one can do that.
i could...😊
Yup....same here....im beaning ALL DAY LONG!
His “wife”? I think not.
I mean it is super cheap
beans and rice...and then he throws a bunch sugar and bacon in it. that was funny tell another one.
One slice of bacon and half a tablespoon of brown sugar won’t kill you. (The amount per person in this recipe) If an extra 65 calories is unhealthy to you then leave it out.
He did mention in the video that you don’t have to put it.
Brown sugar and bacon? Not healthy. Add some veggies!
Yeah, green pepper celery onions and I can of crushed tomatoes. We also put ground meat in ours.
Rice and beans? Barf!
Gives me gas to bad
Notice no mention of any spices or oils/butter. Total bullshit.
Which recipe are you referring to?
go vegan and save more!
As long as you have healthy kidneys, my boyfriend went vegan after his failed, and to make a long story short he had a massive stroke, and died. Veggie protein has to much potassium, and phosphorous for folks on dialysis. His body was swollen from way to much potassium. He had multiple organ failure so there was no chance of ever recovering.
