Piano player with minimum guitar knowledge here. Can confirm this worked 100% worked and I am so stoked. I would recommend proper posture and positioning and a couple of warm-up / exercises for beginners like me before practicing because my left hand felt like fire after a few consecutive seconds without stopping playing this.
Not being rude, genuine question, but why are you afraid of soloing? Like I get it in front of others and I assume that’s what others mean, but I’d not whats to be afraid of when your alone? If you screw up or it sounds like shit no one but you knows :D haha
@@imoffendedthatyouareoffendedI mean I can understand what he means a bit. A solo can be overwhelming with too many different techniques that you just feel scared to try lol
@@imoffendedthatyouareoffended A whole year late, but for me it's the thought of "what if someone outside my house just heard that? They're probably thinking how shit it sounds"
@@jamesvedder1143 I used to think the same thing when I practiced but think of it like this: Most of those assholes who judge like that don't even play, if someone says something give them a go at it and watch how they make the "oh shit face". have been putting off learning more lead techniques like this as a rhythm guitarist but i got the hang of tapping less than 2 minutes into this video wth. thanks!
I've been playing for a little over 20 yrs and we'll over half of that I was more or less scared of learning lead stuff and highly regretted it. I'm no pro now by any means but all I can say is just practice practice practice. The more time you put into leads you would be surprised at how fast you start to pick things up after learning a few techniques. Don't be afraid to try and cover solos that you think are way above your level. Even if you don't cover the whole thing learning sections here and there will really help you start to piece things together over time.
I've seen my friend doing this and I was like "Holy Crap! He's so talented!" But now I realize how easy it is and now I'm literally like 🤦♀️. Omg I can't believe I was so impressed when it is literally SOOO EASYYY
@Midnight Blackheart Well, soloing IS hard, I'm just saying that just tapping was easier for me to pick up than I thought. Maybe this tutorial is just really easy to follow 😂
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed. Thanks for checking it out. It is a technique that Zakk Wylde uses a lot I believe so that's probably where you hear that similarity. It's a really fun technique and it's not as tricky as it looks. Hope you manage to come up with some cool licks with it!
Hey Alex, Thanks for checking it out! Glad you found it useful. Try it out and let me know how you're getting on! Would love to hear how you'd integrated it.
Thank you for this lesson. I guess I'm starting the tapping journey on this video. I'll be going over this till I get the tapping down and progress my way on tapping.. ..RocknRollflat5
Thank you for the lesson. Tricks you should all know: Mute the other strings when you tap. Use your tapping hand to mute the other strings. Unless you have low action, you have to hit the string hard with your tapping finger. At first, it will be hard. Much like your left hand, you’ll need to build a callous to get the tap to work. Also, if you want a long tapping lick to sound good, go slow. If you think you got it in 6 minutes, you don’t.
I am still trying to find a way to NOT ring the high E,B,G,D, and A strings while tapping. I can't get that done right with my palm. Does it depend on the bridge?
@Cupersmoth yes , that is very true , I myself have hit the thumbs down by accident on someone’s vid so that is very true , shows that all types of polls or voting type deals aren’t 100% accurate
Same logic just make sure that the open string is correct in your key signature. Tapping on open string sometimes sounds weird because it’s a full octave difference so it might be best to play an “in between” note
I try to get the tapped notes relatively louder by increasing overdrive, distortion, compression, and I pull my fingers off a little sideways to pluck the string a little. Anything else I can do?
Turn up gain and volume If that doesn't work you may need to tap harder or pull off better, and get your rhythm down. When you do it correctly you can feel the vibration in your tapping finger as well
Why does everyone put their pick away when they start this? when you are playing a song, does you band pause so you can sit your pick down to prepare for tapping, and do they pause again when you need to re-acquire your pick for the licks after your tapping passage? I just don't understand the process and why everyone does this. I want to learn to tap with a pick in my hand, so that I can seamlessly throw some tapping in a nice riff.
You are tapping with your pick between your pointer and thumb, tapping with your middle or ring finger and muting the open E/A/Ds with your lower palm palm
Alternatively, you could also hold your pick to your palm under your pinkie finger to tap with your pointing finger or thumb but this is uncommon and might be more likely to drop your pick
I've seen guitarists attach a guitar pick to their thumb with a rubber ring. I saw an interview with Chris Broderick where he says that using that helps him free his 4 fingers when he taps. John Gallagher uses that as well. As for other methods, I've seen guitarists hold the guitar pick with their lips or holding it with their 3rd and 4th fingers. You can also use grab your guitar pick as usual and just tap with your 3rd finger. I don't know if that is 'correct,' but it feels more comfortable for me
Playing guitar in any way at all seems extremely difficult for a total beginner like me. I'm 52, so I don't believe I have a chance. I think it's way too late. All I can make is noise and sounds.
I taught myself to play and I'm pretty good without lessons i can't tap or play harmonics but those aren't important aspects of playing a guitar for beginners this video isn't helpful you have to start from the beginning regardless of the guitar players on youtube tapping is difficult and most people can't do it
It is difficult trust me took me years to learn to play by myself I might add teaching yourself is better because there's no pressure and you can learn at your own pace rather than paying hundreds of dollars for lessons it is extremely difficult tapping isn't even the tip of the ice berg

is this possible on acoustic ☹️
Is he using hisittle finger or ring finger??oops like hes tapping with the ring finger on the 7th not thistle finger on the 8th???
I either miss the notes, other notes keeps ringing with the one I tapped, or the tapped note sounds horrible
you need to mute the rest of the strings with your palm or wrist.
