My daughter and I walked into our local Dollar Tree store. And she had a fit saying, the same exact thing,as you. " What? This is a Dollar Tree! This is $19. They need to change their name because they are not a dollar anymore!" It is truly a shame in my area. Because I live in a rural area where there are a lot of people on disability and on social security. They have a fixed income.

It use to be nice to go in there when stuff was a $1.00 it kind of felt like hey look what I got it made the stuff seem worth it. Sure a #1.25 isn't that much higher, but you know was 5 items 5 bucks lol now 4 for 5. I had no idea it was up to 1.50 now havent been there for awhile. I also think they ruined it when bringing in 5.00 stuff. There are other stores where you can get some of the dollar tree items, for 1.00 or 99 cents around. Just have to hunt lol.

I read past week that since Family Dollar is closing stores, Dollar Tree would take some items. IMO, $ tree could sell the fans for $12, still make a profit, maybe even $10 each. Most of U.S. having heatwave, with food prices still high, etc., selling the fans cheaper would get them out faster to those who are in need. Think I'll pass this on to $ tree.

about 2 months ago, one of the managers at a dollar store was speaking with corporate and, from what I overheard he was not happy. Shortly after his conversation I nonchalantly said: "sounded like a heated conversation". He shared with me that there's gonna be some changes and he was wondering "where is corporates head at...up their butts??? He also mentioned that there's gonna be changes. Yup...there's "changes". My favorite coffee flavoring is no longer sold. The coffee they were selling is no longer there and replaced with - i think - 4 oz of Jack Daniels Coffee. Many of their seasonings are no longer there and I did happen to notice that 19 dollar box fan as I was walking out empty handed... Remember 5 below??? Well it's now 5 and up! Shame shame shame...

They've closed a lot of their Family Dollar stores. I suspect the higher priced items are inventory from those stores. However, if they sell, it does open the door for DT to add higher priced inventory.
I think they had one foot over the shark when they increased their prices to 1.25. At a dollar, I bought often without really tallying the cost. 🙂 At a 1.25, I started watching my purchases a little more carefully. I suspect I'm not alone in my buying behaviors. If so, it means DT lost sales volume and I doubt that extra .25 made up for it.
I absolutely refuse to purchase anything from their DT+ section and if they raise their prices to 1.50, I'm done with them completely. I'm still peeved because my local DT had a great craft section. When they added the DT+ section, they reduced the craft section to about 1/3 of what it was. No more yarn for my crochet projects among other things. :-(
It saddens me because now that I'm a disabled senior living on a fixed income, I relied on DT for some purchases that fit within my shopping budget.

@@user-tq8jo7oh2n I think you’re 100% correct. We know the family dollars are going away and that will give them makes excuse that they need to have a bandwidth of prices. I don’t see them changing their name they can come out and say money grows on trees, even though we all know that it doesn’t. And for you folks on the West Coast, not only are you fighting the higher prices but you’re also it appears that your stores are struggling for inventory as they dollar tree tries to split up the inventory for the new 100 stores that they bought from the 99 and when it went out of business, yes schools up and some of the stores have started the very basics of Halloween, but most of the stores that I see and most of the videos have isles that are completely empty. Empty isles are not gonna bring people into the store. In fact, it’s a guarantee that they won’t come into the store. I’m sure they believe they have a master plan. But they have to remember that the people who put them on the map vote with their wallet and go someplace else..

I was born in 1957 and I've never heard the term "jumping the shark". I even watched Happy Days, although the jumping the shark episode isn't even vaguely familiar, so perhaps I stopped watching because I knew they were contemplating jumping the shark 😁 Just goes to show that we can learn something new everyday! 👍🏼 I had no problem with Dollar Tree upping their prices to $1.25 (even $1.50 is acceptable to me); inflation happens and they need to make a profit. With so many other discount stores going under, I'm even fine with them offering $3 $5 and $7 items; but I agree, taking things into the double-digits is a bad idea. There are enough other places to shop to get those type of items. I know that changing their name would be costly, but if they're not going to change the name, then they need to stay is the lower-cost section of sales. Thanks for your video, Sherry. Blessings from Carson City NV 💛🌻
EDIT: so I was reading more of your comments and I understand what folks are saying, however, there are still $1.25 items to buy; you don't HAVE to buy the higher-priced items there; go to Big Lots or Walmart, etc. Those on a "fixed-income" (aren't we all, really?) can still get low-priced items at Dollar Tree just like before. Having a fan for $19 doesn't mean one on SSI can no longer buy what they've been buying all along. Dollar Tree is a business, and businesses need to make a profit; it's just a fact. Even if they are testing the waters, they are just doing what businesses do. If you don't like it, you don't have to shop there. Fair-and-balanced thinking...let's be realistic.

The only answer I think is for people to simply stop buying (when possible) items that no longer reflect their actual value. You can get fans in a lot of places and at a lot of price points. Thank you for the update! I am not able to get out often so when I get a heads up on changes it is a big help. This is parallel to grocery and home good prices. They jumped when the virus thing happened in 2020. Because everyone is still willing to pay those prices they will keep going up until many people decide to stop buying or go elsewhere. Love your channel. You are talented and true. God bless you.

I was pretty sad when the 3 and 5 dollar items came along and then the whole store went up to a dollar and a quarter, so yeah, I feel ya. Dollar is no longer accurate. I haven't seen any twenty buck fans in the wild, but will be on the look out. As a limited income sort of person, I am sad for so many reasons this is happening.

To be truthful, it has surprised me how they have kept their prices down for as long as they have, considering the market and the fact that they experience theft at unprecedented levels. They are still having all those $1.25 products, just adding more with a higher sticker price. They are trying to save their business, but only time will show if it was a sound move on their part. I do agree that $19 was an extreme jump.

Your "water testing" reference is 100 percent correct. Unfortunately, several people paid $19 dollars for the fan so we can expect more higher priced items in the near future. I sure do miss when everything was in fact $1.00.

They might as well call themselves Family Dollar! Family Dollar did this years ago. I will not shop at Dollar Tree if they follow that business model. Where I live we have other businesses that sell at or near a dollar.
Thus saying Dollar Tree we have a choice.
Thank you Sherry for speaking up!

So sorry to hear this. If I want a fan, I will go to Walmart or the hardware store and buy one. I like the dollar tree for crafts, party supplies, holiday decor and organization items. I was skeptical of the plus section, but found a few deals I thought were ok. I don’t shop the plus section too often. I did, however, like the craft plus section. That has dwindled to hardly anything. Well the rumors were true and I probably will shop there less. Thank you for sharing and have a crafty day.

I totally agree. They might as well be Dollar General, because what’s the difference going to be pretty soon. I guess if people go elsewhere to shop the “dollar section” there is no point in shopping the “dollar section” at the Tree. It was too good to be true🙁

Hi Sherry🤗,I was there today looking for the jar lights you shared yesterday. I was surprised to see lots of empty shelves ( assuming that they are getting ready for the price hike or as you put it jumping the shark 🦈 … I was there for that episode 🤣🤭 and you’re right that was the end of happy days) I saw Dixie paper plates for 4.00 on the end cap at the back of the store. I’ve also seen previously name brand regular size cereal near the same area for 2.50. It’s just a matter of time before it’s a regular store. I also popped into Dollar General they had lots of cute icecream items, small jelly totes and little shopping baskets all for just a 1.00 along with so much more. These are the prices we like for when sending happy mail or goodie items with our handmade projects when sending out mail to friends. Many of us are bargain shoppers and Dollar Tree won’t be the bargain store we’ve all loved anymore 😢Hugs💞Dina

Wow haven’t seen that yet but both DT near me have empty shelves. They do carry some 3-5$ items. The lack of inventory has been concerning - maybe that’s why they are making room for higher price items 😱🤦‍♀️ not a welcome change. So true name change will be needed!

Here in Ontario, Canada, I have not seen any of the $3, $5 or $7 sections in any of our local dollar tree stores. But, most of their items are $1.75 and there are some items such large chocolate bars and boxed candy that are priced at $2. I shop at Temu on line for a lot of my crafting supplies now, such as charms, paper clips, trim, etc. Even the metal dies I have purchased work great. No issues.

So here in Washington state, we are just this weekend expecting our first 85*--90* weekend. I can pretty much guarentee that by next Tuesday most larger stores in the area will be out of alot of thier fans. Seeing the heat wave across the country that's been going on for a while now, I wonder if their stores are the same. Perhaps DT just found an unknown supplier, and are selling what they know people need. Idk, but in this area, people go nuts in this "blazing hot" occasional summer heat.

I'm in Calif. Until recently we HAD a chain of stores called the 99 Cent Stores. The original stores sold NOTHING over 99 cents. I've shopped them since the 80's when they first opened. In fact I shopped the 1st flagship store...awesome place fantastic merchandise. Than the original owner sold the chain. I remember reading a article about the new owners and he actually said he didn't want to be a "dollar store" his vision was to be like a Walmart. My 1st thought was if I wanted a Walmart experience I'd shop Walmart and pay Walmart prices. My 2nd thought was prices are going to rise and they did. Flash forward, a couple of months ago without warning the owner announced due to the minimum wage increase, rampant theft ect. ect. blah blah blah he was closing the chain immediately and just like that they're gone. Truth be told, 99 Cent Store prices were comparable to regular grocery store prices. There was still some merchandise priced at 99 cents but most was not. I saw the decline in shoppers immediately and that happened years before wage increases and theft issues. What Dollar Tree is doing is exactly what 99 Cent Stores did. Bottom line is greed and just like the 99CS, it will be their demise.

I’m a basket maker and I used to go in the dollar tree everyday, but ever since it went to a $1.25 I have gone in less. It’s to the point where there are only certain things I buy, and it’s usually for small items to go in my baskets. This year I bought almost all my candy items for my baskets at Walmart because there prices were much better and all my toys were from Temu. Plus the DT stores are so poorly maintained it’s ridiculous. $19 is crazy I guess those days of really living the DT are really lover.

I agree! The day I heard Dollar Tree prices were going up to $1.25 and introducing $3 to $5 items I said they are just another Dollar General store. I loved shopping at Dollar Tree, but along with the price hike their merchandise quality has declined (if that was even possible). I have items I spent $1 on that I purchased for $1.25 and you can see and feel the quality difference.

Can’t agree more! Two of their Family Dollar stores closed in my area. Many items made their way over to Dollar Tree. Recently I’ve found similar/better items like their $1.25 items at Walmart or Dollar General for a dollar or less. Also, After I heard about the huge lawsuit about Family Dollar putting food out that came from rodent infested warehouses I will never buy food from them or Dollar Tree ever again. Adios DT!
