This is a good shortcut way to graph. Quadratics in Vertex Form. Summary: 1.) Find and Graph the vertex 2.) Locate "a". Go both left and right 1 unit from the vertex and go up "a" units if "a" is positive OR go down "a" units if "a" is negative (In this problem left and right 1 and down 3 since "a" = -3) 3.) Calculate "4a". Go both left and right 2 units and go the same direction (up/down) "4a" units (In this problem left and right 2 and down 12 since "4a" = -12) Nice post!

@LAWLCthulhu Yea well at college, for certain core classes such as chemistry 122 & 123 we use quadratic equations for chemical reaction equilibrium problems. Solving quadratic equations in itself isn't that hard, its pretty easy. But when you reach the level where you have to start applying those concepts to chemistry problems (in my case) or even business problems etc, that's where it gets a bit more challenging. So applying this concepts to real life scenarios is what you should try to learn.

I know this comment is three years old, but in order to find the vertex, you must find the axis of symmetry (x = -b/2a). The axis of symmetry in your equation is -(-2)/2(1)= 2/2= 1. Now simply replace x with 1, and you get 1^2 - 2(1) + 4=y, and after you solve this, y should equal 5 as your vertex. Have a nice day!

This didn't help at all. My problem says what is the vertex of the function f(x)= x^2-2x+4
you do -b/2a to find the x value and plug in that x value to get y, then u have the vertex (x,y)
