In this experiment i burn a volcano made from safety matches. The creation of this Volcano took me about 25 hours to make and 17 342 safety matches were used.
DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! I watered the grass and 2 of my friends were there with me prepared with cans full of water! I tried it so you don't have to! :-)
To be honest i expected a little different end result and a much bigger "BOOM", so i made the fixed version of the Volcano.

If the match bridge matches had been cut shorter and not been able to ignite the outside of the volcano on the way in I think it would have created a better result by allowing the volcano to erupt from within. Still very cool. I wonder how much it cost to do this.
That's a good idea , also the structure needed oxygen vents at the bottom every now and then.
It needed more oxygen to fuel the fire.

The cost, other than the tools, involved buying thousands of striker matches which are cheap. Probably less than $15
A dry field is the absolute perfect place to light a thousand matches.... said no one!

Kids everywhere are encouraged to try this at home! It's a great science experiment, and you can do it right in your kitchen. Just be sure to leave some windows open for the smoke, and put your local fire department on speed dial.

Yo, match heads are 50% potassium chlorate, which is an oxidizer. So there's no lack of available oxygen inside.
