I've been sitting on this footage since the end of NAB, and my feelings towards these lenses remain the same: amazing.

Make no mistake...DZO came to play with these lenses! And with their price point, they've essentially blown out their competition.
The footage from these are fantastic. Great work! Im picking up a set soon!

Yup, the only set of lenses that have genuinely interested me in a long time.
Now seeing the footage, these will likely be my first and only personal set of cine primes for a long time.
    Amazing 🔥

Thanks for the testing and sharing. I'm liking what I'm seeing out of these. The very minimal CA is impressive (and I appreciate you shooting some extreme contrast shots so I could look at that). I don't know that I love the very distinct RGB flare dots (at the 5:08 mark), but that's a fairly minor complaint.

Yeah the channels do separate. I think it only happens with super direct sunlight. The shot on the road had a slight flare, but it didn't separate. I was just pleased that the flare were kept under control 😂

How do you think they stack up value wise against something like the Nisi Athena Primes?
Great video & greetings from Germany 👋🏼

Both lenses are a great value. Personally, I like the out of the box look of the Arles better. Both lenses are a great set of modern primes and have very good optics. They also have very good close focusing distances. That being said, I feel like the Arles are a bit more organic. I feel like the Athena lenses are going to give a you a very clean and modern look. Which means you will be able to throw more filters over them, and they are a great base, but they don't have that buttery feel that the Arles have. I am using very subjective words here but I hope this makes sense lol. Keep in mind, I only have a 15 hours with the Athena lenses too. I plan on reviewing them on the channel as well. I have a video of the Athena's you can look at. I don't think you'll go wrong with either, but I would choose the Arles's currently.

@@sidneybakergreen Wow, thanks for the response 🙏🏼 I actually came pretty close to pulling the trigger on the Athena Primes but now as more and more footage from the Arles is released I am kind of hesitant 😅 I know what you mean, the Arles lenses really do look more creamy. Only thing I am not a big fan of is the amount of CA which I felt was a bit less pronounced on the Nisis.
Thanks again & I hope to see a full review from you of them soon 🔜

@@ez8937 I feel both sets actually handled CA well. I had to zoom in to even notice it on the Arles, but I wanted to double check. But I personally didn't notice it until I did zoom in. And what I saw was pretty minor. Every lens is going to have some CA to an extent.

    • @ez8937
      @ez8937 3 місяці тому

@@sidneybakergreen That is true of course 👍🏼 However I did notice CA even before the part where you pointed it out, in the night shot of the city for example around some street lights and cars on the highway 🛣️ No biggie & like you said, to some extent most lenses will have it 👍🏼 I guess the fast t-stop and look of these in combination with the price will make me forget about that pretty quickly. Even the new offerings from Zeiss in form of their Nano Primes have more CA 👻 But still, if there was a way to get rid of it entirely I would prefer it.

If you do plan on reviewing the set after they have been released. Can you test the distortion of the lenses on a Graph. I am really curious on the distortion of the 25mm lens. Been looking for a wide lens with low distortion.

From a cinematography standpoint, I understand the PL Mount move. I would expect Nikon to also create a PL MOUNT versions as Arri PL is the standard and I don't see that changing. PL is much more secure

They look great to my eye! Did these lenses communicate with the camera?

    • @sidneybakergreen

They are fully manual lenses with no electronic interfaces to my knowledge.

@@sidneybakergreen Thank you for the answer! It would be icing on the cake if they relayed metadata to the camera (iData Passthrough, I believe) but still really great lenses considering the speed and image rendering. I cancelled my pre-order for the NiSi Athena set and switched to a pre-order of these.
