I have something in common with Pinku2910... i see the film all the time...had the very good fortune to meet most of the cast including director Tarunda and Ritu too! Circumstances in my life never gave me the opportunity to learn Bengali ( ami bangaali) but I absolutely love Rabindrasangeet and listen to it EVERYDAY.. and not a word I understand. Often in my mind the songs are so moving that I find tears welling up in my eyes..thats Tagore and thats a bangaal at heart!
May I share a secret with you? In my prayers I asked God if I should return to this earth please send me back as a Bengali. Can you imagine going through life without Rabindo-sangeet?
I often come to listen to this song, my Bengali girlfriend used to sing this song for me on my request.. It sounded so sweet... Its my night time ritual to listen to this... She is no more. :(
@anupamsircar I couldnt agree with you more! Her rendition of the song is by far and away the best version of its kind. And, to be fair Ritu singing it in the film gave it so much visual appeal, style and purpose. Every time and each time I hear the song, which I do almost on a daily basis (!) the song never fails to bring a lump to my throat. It is only Arundhati's that does it for me. No singer but no singer comes close to Arundhati.

I think Bengali Rabindra Sangeet singers should sing these songs in other languages of India and in English. Hundred years have gone, but still such a valuable jewel is remaining hidden among Bengalis only. It is very sad. We must translate and sing in other languages.

The defining moment for my insatiable need for Tagore was when I heard this song at Ma's final funeral prayers. Ma little did you know then how much Rabindranath was going to influence my life. And still I understand not a word but Ma I hear you all the time.
