For those who don’t understand… the French horn is such a tough instrument to play because the mouthpiece is very sensitive to the positioning of your lips and embouchure that any slight adjustment can change the partial of the airwave and therefore the note that comes out. When you get as high as middle written C (meaning the C on the third space on the staff), it is possible to play many notes above on any fingering (of course, this isn’t encouraged). What this man played is probably do-able for any above intermediate trumpeter, but incredibly difficult even for the best of the best in the horn playing community
The horn is not a tough instrument. Horn players, unlike most brass players, don’t practice as much and blame the instrument for being difficult to play. Of course it’s difficult to play if you don’t practice. Of course you’ll miss notes if you don’t practice. Trumpet is ten times harder to play than horn. Only an ignorant brass musician would say horn is harder. The harmonics are hard on every instrument. It’s called practicing so you can master it and stop cracking notes. No more excuses! Go practice! Sincerely, a professional brass musician that practices and doesn’t crack notes nor blames the instrument.
@@jchomedog2887 Let’s run through some horn fun facts! The conventional fingering for both high F and high G is the same thing! (That’s just a minor second apart!) The fingerings for high C, D, and E are mostly interchangable! The notes of each major triad above low F all have the same fingerings! And by the way… I play both horn and trumpet.
Was this video actually titled "When the French horn finally gets a solo?" What do you think Most orchestral music is nowadays? At least in the movies, Anyway. It's all French horn. All French horn all the time.
Lmao when you're playing anything above a regular E on the stave you dont need valves. All the notes are so close together that you can just bend and squeak your way into any note
My hero and former student!!!

I remember the lessons well Claude!!
Wow that’s really cool I’m a horn player and you truly are my inspiration

Why do I get the feeling the solo was originally intended for a trumpet? It still sounds great.

Is this inspired by "Aragonaise" from Carmen Suite No°1 ? Besides the French horn solo, it sounds exactly the same.
I was absolutely waiting for the note to split. That what happens every time I get a completely exposed part.
