Watching them say "UA-cam killed MTV" on the MTV UA-cam channel is trippy
😂😂😂 facts!
MTV killed MTV years before YT with all the dumb reality shows replacing music
That whole song was tripping
Because the original says tv killed the radio there in that spot in thr song
Watching an MTV video on UA-cam 😂😂
this is their first vmas performance in 16 years, but it feels like they never left :)
Ifkr!
amazing! Long live the car crash hearts!
I didn't even know they played here before. I haven't watched an event since 2006.
Not for people who are turning 16 or 17 this year.
FR It feels like centuries was released yesterday. I wish I could go back to the old days 😭
The suits are killing me 😭 Great performance. Fall out boy really is one of those groups that continues to maintain their talent no matter how many years go on.
They went with the David Byrne look from Talking Heads.
80s man, 😅😅 they love to give to the 80s..😂❤
At least Andy didn’t have to put a suit on
Like Andy is the only one looking normal lol. Even Joe isn’t wearing his usual
Talking Heads
the fact that Patrick Stump, a guy who is infamous for forgetting his own song's lyrics, remembered every word of this song live at the VMA's... is genuinely a great feat in itself.
Not to ruin the magic but I think they played it 4 times and this part was pre-recorded
Well, this was a cover, but with lyrics he wrote.
I mean technically it wasn’t the original lyrics 😛
These kids think this is some cool new song.
if anyone should write and sing a sequel song, that would be Billy Joel, of course.
It was prerecorded
Every 25 years this song can be rewritten by the next generation, it's a reminder the fire never goes out
Like Simpson's
Nothing is stopping anyone from going back and writing chunks for each previous 25 years. I think there were a few things that happened between 1925 to 1950
It has to be the right band though. This song works really well for Patrick and FOB’s sound
I kinda love that they’re outside preforming this cause they have there target audience all out there Omg that looked so fun and the audience actually looked like fans rather than the ones inside also just watching the show as a whole that was awesome. FOB is back and they are gonna continue as rock legends for this gen
yes i can confirm we were all fans 🙌
Yep! I was there !!!!
its cuz we were fans and they pre-taped this the day before:-)
As a massive Billy Joel I must say I didnt think this could be done but this was perfect. Amazing
I totally thought the same thing.
Yea, after I heard they did a cover I was concerned, but they did a good job!
AMAZING!!!!!
I'm sure bill would approve
I wonder how many people here even know it’s a Billy Joel original tune.
The fact that the lyrics say "Kanye West and Taylor Swift" and they're singing it in the vmas
With Taylor there too😭
And FOB having a collab with Swift for Speak Now TV
Wished they panned to TSwift 🤣
Gen X here, Billy Joel sent the universe this memo my senior year and it struck my soul just like this. I didn’t know I would like this, much less LOVE this. It’s as if Fallout Boy picked up where BJ left off. And that live vocal voice? Amazing talent.
One could always do with more Fall Out Boy in their life, their music is pure endorphins haha! Patrick definitely gives strong Billy Joel/Elton John vibes when he cracks the piano out at least, it’s always magical :))
👈 This Gen Xer also approves
Bingo
You aint lyin. Billie Joel was BRILLIANT but FOB absolutely did it justice. I had goose bumps
I didn’t realize until recently that Billy Joel wrote the original because some kid told him that he doesn’t understand what the 80’s generation had been through. So, he wrote the song starting with all the things that took place from his birth I believe in the mid 40’s to 1989 to show the kid how much he obviously was oblivious to.
I LOVE FALL OUT BOY!!! this cover is amazing, i don’t care what anyone says, and patrick somehow sounds BETTER live!! fall out boy forever!
I heard it on the radio and I liked it 😄
This live version sounds amazing. the sounds of the instruments and vocals sound well mixed and balanced.
This live version is as good as Joel's original one.
The record/ lp version to my ears, sounds poor. Sounds overprocessed. Snare too loud, guitars too low and not fat sounding enough.
Fun fact this isn’t the cover. This is the sequel to the original because if it was a cover, they’ll be going over everything from the original. This is the sequel.
@@Fireroderickcummings- while i do agree that this is more of a sequel, if you look at the cover art for the single, fall out boy themselves call it a cover 😅
He sounds so amazing live its insane!!! 😭
how does he sound BETTER here than the recording???
He sounds amazing live!
Because reasons.
This isn’t live 😂 how are people this ignorant
@@Kingj2real it was live when it first aired as far as I can tell.
If you listen closely you can tell he's doing playback on choruses.
THIS COVER IS SO DAMN BEAUTFUL. PATRICK’S VOICE IS SO SO GORGEOUS.
It’s not a cover it’s a sequel to the original
@@Fireroderickcummingsthey themselves call it a cover, stop correcting people to feel smart
Patrick’s voice really is great! He’s such a talented vocalist! Glad somebody recognized that and didn’t let him play drums like he originally auditioned to😂
@@Fireroderickcummingswhat's the original?
@@AndreaHernandez-jx7dxI dunno if you’re trolling or not
How is his voice so flawless? He literally sounds so amazing in this performance, nobody can deny that
Edit: I’m aware it’s autotuned, that doesn’t stop me from thinking it’s a good performance. He’s not lip syncing, and everyone at the VMAs uses autotune. Please stay off my back for thinking one of the most talented singers in the world is…talented
Edit #2: By ‘how’ I’m not asking why his voice is so good, I’m expressing how good I think it is. If you have a problem with that, go check out other FOB performances where Patrick isn’t using autotune or backing vocals, and you’ll see what I mean. I recommend his soul punk era cover of ‘let’s get it on.’ I like his voice, and I’m not changing my mind or taking back my comment, so get over it. It’s crazy how many people in the comments just wanna have an argument.
Like always 😍❤️🔥
There’s definitely more effects/vocal correction thrown in the mix than usual. Totally ok if you’re performing in a space where you have an opportunity to pick up a lot of new fans. I hate seeing an artist perform on TV where it’s the first time I’ve ever heard them live and they suck haha
they are not actually playing live. is a live recording prior the event. Is totally common. hear the hi hat at 1:20. Andy is going visually on a floor beat but if you hear it, it plays 3 notes in the hi hat really quick. Is a recording lol. Thats why it sounds flawless
I was there. He didnt sound like thay at all.. but still amazing
He’s incredible!!!!
I've been waiting for a modern updated version of this song. Very happy that it's these guys doing it.
Made it years ago and it just got stole ua-cam.com/video/oiFuNPZXeC0/v-deo.html
any time i found someone remake it, it alway be super bias and would just annoy me
I can think of much better…all I hear is noise, his voice isn’t suited to this style
Bias? The whole song is political
His voice is so clear, he's amazing
singing the “taylor swift and kayne west” line at the vmas is iconic tbh
I'm 43, and I grew up watching the VMA's in the 80's and 90's. This captures the spirit of the VMA's I remember. Very cool nod to the past, with a fun spin on the lyrics for folks of my generation.
I wish I got to see them when they were in Toronto, I hear Patrick Stump is one of the few vocalists that never disappoint live.
It’s true. He never disappoints
I went to my first FOB concert in August and let me tell you they were absolutely incredible! Patrick is unbelievably talented
I went to a concert here in Chile on 2013 or 2014 and it was amazing, flawless vocals
I was at that toronto show and yeah he(and the rest of the band of course) absolutely killed it
I took my daughter to see FoB in Toledo quite a few years ago and they were AMAZING!
As a true Fall Out Boy fan, they will consistently prove they’re talented. Lyrically, vocally, instrumentals and all.
And that they need to have a mixed version so they don’t really play live
They have been bad since from under the cork tree
@@Jamesmarkland Take This To Your Grave is forever my favorite album.
@@Jamesmarkland Not really. They haven't launched a single bad album imo. From under the cork tree is my favourite of the albums but so much for stardust is an absolute banger
@@Jamesmarkland besides mania all their albums were banging idk what the hell you're talking about
Patrick's high pitched "We didnt start the fire" during the chorus at the end was just the perfect icing on the cake. It made the song 10× much better than already is.
I appreciate this stage so much, Patrick's voice, the whole damn performance by Fall Out Boy all together. They are sooooo good!
I like how they changed the lyrics to go with the times today. I was waiting for him to say “JFK blown away what else do I have to say?” Billy Joel’s original version had a great video.
Ah, I love these four men so much. Patrick in his little suit is iconic.
Those shoulder pads are straight out of the 80s!
love to see fall out boy back at the vmas. interesting for this of all songs to be what they perform. great live performance, though!
It was so crazy everyone was expecting HMLAG or LFTOS and I was like no guys I swear it’s gonna be this b/c the crew was setting the stage on fire and they weren’t lol, and the 9/11 lyric at the end (this was filmed on 9/11, in newark)
i saw them live a couple months ago and i cried. i'm so glad they're still getting recognition after decades of making art
It kind of hurts that they didn’t play a song from their new album which so much for stardust is definitely some of their best work. But I’m happy to see them back
This is a song from their new album. They retconned the album to add it. They changed the lyrics.
@@AGFbydesignit’s a cover song tho… a actual original would’ve been better
@@joshuafult84 it’s not a cover. It’s an adaptation. A cover uses the same lyrics.
Ok adaptation still I'd rather see their 100% original track at an award show.@@AGFbydesign
Wow. This rewrite hits so hard. I feel like I'm hearing this song for the first time
fall out boy just gets better and better through time
La voz de Patrick en vivo es bellísima
I don’t care if it’s not in chronological order, Patrick’s voice makes this song perfect to me and somehow the live version is even BETTER!! Wish I could have seen it, looks like the crowd was having so much fun
As a Xennial, the random events were well intended. Everything went chaotic after 1989.
@@desimoniumyeah they did that on purpose for that exact reason
His vocals have improved a ton!! LOVE THE ENERGY OF THE CROWD!
Improved? He’s been a goat for 15+ years
@@jaymotive4691ofc but that doesn’t mean he’s unable to improve he’s always been an exceptionally skilled singer and continues to get more skilled as the years go by
He’s not singing live. It’s a mixed backing track
Watching this on MTVs UA-cam channel 😂
That drummer though. 🥵
01:34 of all the times we needed to see Taylor Swift singing along 🙂
FOR ANYONE WONDERING ABOUT THE SUITS..."Like a kid playing pretend in his father's suite"
Thank youuu I was wondering!
@@iamnclarke It can also be a David Byrne "reference" ! :)
i thought it was a nod to talking heads!
@@callanrose OMG YES
probably but also got the Billy Joel suit from his original video, Talking Heads oversized suit and David Bowie suit vibe with a touch of Angus Young school uniform from Petes shorts. Lots of iconic bands wore suits in the 80s. Knowing Pete there is probably multiple things going on in his head when he came up with it.
Patrick's voice seriously is out of this world. Awesome performance! Love that they did a new version of this song. It was about time so thanks to Billy Joel too!
Timeless group!!! If we always improve ourselves then we become iconic! ❤
this makes me SO HAPPY!!!!! i have been obsessed with their version of this song for the past 2 months and seeing them all on stage in those goofy-ass outfits sounding as amazing as always just makes me so happy…. puts the biggest smile on my face! love u fall out boy forever ❤❤❤❤❤
I like how they updated the lyrics so neat.
No one can deny that after how long they have been preforming this is a great performance. I LOVE THEM still even now started listening to them in 2010.
Billy Joel is sure proud of this boys soooo much🖤
Everything about this performance just slaps
Even though I didn’t watch their last VMA performance, because 2012 was my very first VMAs, I’m glad Fall Out Boy returned to the VMAs to perform again
I see what y'all did there! I'm less than a minute into this performance and I'm loving it. The giant suits are givin' David Byrne of the Talkin' Heads! Y'all killed this cover of a Billy Joel classic-with vocals and fresh lyrics and all! I love Fall Out Boy! They did that!
Patrick's voice is just unbelievable, great performance 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hearing new lyrics based on current events even makes the original hit harder.
Goood times Fall out boys
🔥🔥🔥God bless them all✨️
Long live to Fall Out Boy!!
No phones while watching live performance? 😂 Brings me back, can't believe they can still do it
they couldn’t have phones because they recorded this a day before and didn’t want anything getting leaked :)
I went, they locked our phones up in these weird sleeves that you needed to use the same type of thing that removes retail security tags to open back up.
@@notenoughstardustshould do it for more concerts
@@BardhanProductions i think it’s annoying when people record the whole time during a concert and it definitely takes away from living in the moment, but i think people should be allowed to have their phones. for me i just try and take a few vids of my fav songs and then it’s super fun and sentimental to look back on! but i respect what you think and can see why you would say that, everyone has their own opinion on this topic :)
Fall Out Boy never disappoints 💐💐💐💐💐❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I forever love Fall Out Boy 🔥🔥🔥 Patrick never stop!
this is such a difficult song to sing lol great job
Awesome!! 🎉 can't wait to see them live 😍
love them deeply
i will never ever get over patrick... GOSH I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ahhhhh i hope they play this in October when i see them live! they're as so near and dear to my heart i made sure to vote for them. Glad that joe is better touring!
I'm also seeing them in October! Europe tour will be lit 😄
Fall out boywas/ is/ will ever be pure perfection 🔥🤘🏼🔥
Been a fan since childhood. To see them live again over 15 years later is AMAZING!!
I LOVE THE NO PHONE POLICY!!!
I love Fall Out Boy! I shouted my heart out in your era. When I'm happy and most especially when I'm mad in the world!!
THANK YOU MTV AND FALL OUT BOY AND PATRICK AND JOE AND ANDY AND PETER
This guys... always perfect.
I saw them live this summer and been to all their tours. They’ve never stopped being amazing and this song gave me CHILLS
I LOVE fallout boy!!!!!!!!! They are incredible live❤️😊
We learned the original version in my 8th grade history class. I know it by heart but I don't know about the majority of the events I'm singing. This new cover totally hits different as a millennial. It feels weird to rock out to a song that mentions Sandy Hook and 9/11 and it really brought new perspective to the lyric "JKF Blown away"
this one is our generations song.
Not even a year and we need another remake of this song.
What a show!!!!
Que performance. Banda da minha adolescência.
Still disappointed this song wasn't in chronological order like Billy's was, but it's crazy to listen to listen and think about how much I've seen in my life since being born in '95.
Man can sing! I love this so much!!
Best band I’ve ever seen live. Always solid.
undeniably one of the best covers of all time!
It’s not a cover, Isa sequel
WOW Patrick slayed that performance! He made it look so effortless to sing that fast! Patrick and Pete in throwback 1980's throwback/1920's Zoot suit jackets? Joe's awesome guitar playing? Andy being Andy? Fantastic performance 10/10.
i had sooo much fun!
Love love love fall out boy!
my favorite band when i was 14 ❤
Honestly this is my favorite rendition of the song, mostly due to how many of these things take me back to high school or college
OMG his voice and this song is going to be history!
Ah can’t wait to see FOB in Manila this December ❤
ALWAYS THE BEST BAND
Cada dia tocan mejor
I cant stop Watching it!!!!!! Its perfect
I love this updated version of Billy Joel's song ❤ Great performance!
Will always rock wit FOB.✌️
Ryan started the fire
Such a great version of this song!!
I LOVE THEM!! This was great 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
Patrick Stump vocals ❤ amazing! Love this song. Both great. FOB one of the best bands ever!.
I’m refreshing and REFRESHING FOR TXT THTAS ALL I WANT
ITS UP
it's so goot to see them all back together
Fall Out Boy always finds a way to amaze me!
one of the best performances. the comeback we all needed!
They did an absolute amazing job with covering this song. ❤❤❤❤
LEGENDARY. Crazy to have lived through all of this.
the best!
always!
hope someday Fall Out Boy come to UA
🥺❤
I love Stray kids, Demi Lovato and Fall out Boys
make pop punk great again
they haven’t considered themselves pop punk for like 15 years,, there’s plenty of great pop punk groups out right now, you should look out for them a bit
Pop punk always been great
they aren't doing pop punk. they haven't considered themselves pop punk since cork tree.
What an amazing Live vocalist!!! Wow!!! 😮❤😮
This is amazingggggggg omg
Remix of the year
