I’m from aruba… and we speak papiamento its a mix also and for us “Mane bo ta” “means the way you are” its mind blowing 🤗

I’m Cape Verdean born in the US. I grew up in Florida not around a lot of other CV people so I wasn’t able to practice speaking as much and lost most of it now that I’m an adult. Your videos are going to help me get the confidence to start speaking it again. Thank you!

My understanding is that enslaved African CV's were taken by Portuguese to Curacao and other islands. Check out Frank Martinus Arion, a linguist who researched and wrote about this subject.

Same, my dad’s side is Cape Verdean but I grew up with my mum’s side which Iis São Toméan so I don’t speak or understand it much 😩😩😭

I am Cape Verdean. My Mom and Dad are both Cape Verdean. My Grandmother and Grandfather came to the US from the Island of Brava. My Grandma spoke broken english. My parents spoke to us in English, so I didn't learn to speak the language fluently. Thanks for the video.

I really appreciate your channel!! Both of my parents are from cape verde (brava e san antao) but they never taught me how to speak it growing up. I can understand it, but it's difficult for me to form sentences. I took portuguese in both high school and as a gen ed in college but I would really love to learn and embrace a lingua de cabo verde

My grandfather's mother is from Cabo Verde she passed away when he was 4. So he had no connection to Cabo Verde. I've always wanted to go since I started doing more research into my ancestry.

@@CapeverdeanBarbie1990 I came from S.Antaõ at a young age but I never forgot how to speak kriol,but the other versions of Capeverdian Kriol My Mum and Dad thought me😊
And for English and Spanish I learned all by myself they we're quite easy to learn.
I learned English and Spanish in a period of 6 months.And French I always knew how to speak it 😊

Hi, I'm from the Netherlands and I am Cape verdean but i cant speak it. My father is from Pria but my parents never learned me how to speak it and i feel left out when i hear my cousins talk creole. I think it's hard to learn it bc the accent and bc it's a LOT different then Dutch.

Mostly of everything you say will be understood I'd say since Spanish & Portuguese has lots of similarities. There's going to be words that might be difficult to understand but just ask " que significa eso?" & CV will explain. It's possible to communicate with no problem, you'll learn by asking questions
Thanks...what really got me interested in visiting Cape Verde is Mayra Andrade. She is beautiful and I love her music. She sings in the dialect and it sounds amazing. I can read Portuguese more or less, speak and understand even less so did not know how much i would struggle there. It is definitely on my bucket list when things settle down with the virus
