- This locking hitch pin may work for some, but I must mention that all the plastic may not last long in areas with extreme weather.
NOTICE: If there's a lock you would like me to feature on this channel, please send it in or simply tell me about it and I will do my best to acquire one.
Thank you..
I guess the out come was no surprise. Thanks for the review.
I have to do the good, bad and ugly. No question what this one is
I bought 2. One for the receiver on my truck 5/8 and the other for 1/4 pin on trailer. Neither of the keys will turn the locks.
Probably doesn't matter too much if its hardened, like you said, most of it will be obscured by the receiver.. if nothing else, atleast they didn't advertise it as "high security pick proof" like some do. Great review Big Al, take care buddy 👍🏻👍🏻
I agree, no ridiculous claims on this one. Basic as it gets. I think it will serve it's purpose. Just not sure how long
I have one of these and the keyway is so rusted I can't even insert the key. The cylinder is seized. How do I get this thing off the vehicle? I could try removing plastic shroud and using a cheater pipe, but how?
Sorry for late reply. Have you tried just blasting it with WD40 and let it soak for bit. I guess the last straw would be a cut off wheel or a big hammer. Their not very strong. You can probably snap the head right off or at least bust the locking pawl
@@AlbertLebel Tried Kroil to no avail. I had to take the steel pipe from a floorjack and pry the thing off the vehicle using leverage. Hardest part was cutting the plastic shroud off so the pipe would fit.
@@NytronX ya most of these cheap ones are covered in lots of plastic to hide the fact that their made so bad. Glad you got it removed anyways. 👍
I'm having this same problem right now... finally got the key in after soaking it but the key broke right off. Now I gotta figure out how the crap to get it off
If it’s important enough you can buy key extractors. Most lock pick suppliers have them. Look online. Their not expensive but it will take time to get them. I sure hope you get it worked out
Atleast it's a pin tumbler, all of ours are wafer locks. I had my hardenedsteel drilled bt a proper machinist and use a stainless steel Lockwood padlock.👍🍺🤓🇦🇺
This is definitely better than a wafer version but so much plastic on the head. I like what you did, good thinking
I believe the hardness matters greatly. Besides locking the hitch to the receiver it is also responsible for transferring the load the the receiver.
I'm not sure Jim, i see what your saying but the shear strength has to be much more than the vehicle could pull. We have steel coil racks at work that hold two 7,000lb coils each and the rack only has 4 half inch bolts on each end and that's dead weight. Now you have me curious
I have no idea if the hardness matters. Take care sir. Go U.S.
Very nice review bro
Thanks brother. At least they didn't have false claims all over the package like some do
What’s The Usable Span On These ?!?!
Ok, so the actual usable span for the 1/2 in pin featured on this video is 2.82 in. or 71.7 mm and the dia. is a true 1/2 in or about 12.7 mm all these measurements where taken just now using a digital caliper. I would be happy to help with any further questions
That doesn't look like it will last with normal use. Abuse? Don't think so. Thanks for another warning 🙂
Ya, I think the pin itself is ok but all that plastic is just silly.
If your not going to use it or take it back for a refund , I would have liked to see it opened in a more destruction way.
That's a great idea. I will keep that in mind. I would love to beat this thing into pieces.
