I have a Dimension 3000 running XP. Believe it or not, I was using it for everyday computing until I decided to get a custom-built Windows 7 computer just this spring. Nice to be seeing you running 98 on it! :) Brings back so much nostalgia for me - unfortunately, the only computer I still have that USED to run 98 is an IBM Aptiva from 1999 (it now runs XP with Service Pack 2), and plugging in the CD-ROM drive for whatever reason prevents it from going past the Aptiva boot screen.
It's cool that you have Windows 98 Plus! installed on that computer. I also have some PC games stored in black CD binders. Roller Coaster Tycoon was one of my favorite tycoon games. I preferred RCT2 myself as it had Six Flags theme parks featured in it and some more spectacular items to build (don't forget that they made extension packs for both games).

When optical drives get old enough, the drive belt that opens the tray loses its tension and slips on the pullies and needs to cleaned with 91% isopropyl alcohol and/or replaced if the cleaning didnt work... some of the super old optical drives, uses gears and opens every time, unless the drive is shot.
Ahhhh the good old Windows 98 Se nostalgic . this was my first windows ever on a custom made pc back in 1998 and ever since then i dont know where that pc went if i know that it was goin to ment sooo much now in the year 2014 . i have a couple of windows 98 games that i cant play on 7 or 8 . so i bought a dell inspiron 8600 and pre uloading it with 98 se .. hopefully will work nice work
I have the same problem with my dvd-burner. I tried everything to get it unstuck, I even took it totally apart and tried to replace the belt. In the end, I just replaced it with a new one.
98SE was mostly supported by hardware until about 2005 or so (about when PCIe chipsets became readily available). After that, it gets tough to run it. For DOS games, install a readily available $5 Soundblaster Live! It has real mode DOS drivers and real hardware wavetable MIDI. Or you could try DOSBox, that machine likely has enough pep for it and it should run under 98SE, if not then it will definitely work under 2000.
Oh, one more thing. Perhaps you may be able to find an older PCI sound card or maybe you already have one. If it has drivers designed for Windows 95 or 98, then chances are, Windows 2000 will have drivers for it already. You'll have the capability to play some DOS games and maybe even have FM synthesis. As a matter of fact, I think I may just have an older sound card that will work laying around somewhere.
that dvd rw justs needs to be tapped on the front for the tray to come out something about the gears in the drive may cause it not to open but ya just tap it on the front
Billy, I know this is old, but I'm wondering what drivers did you use on this Dimension 2350 to get Windows 98 up and running? Chipset and all that. Having lots of trouble with drivers and any help would be appreciated.
Hi Billy, Can i ask where you found the correct drivers? i cant find the correct drivers for mine on W98, im stuck at 640x480 16 colours? **UPDATE** Had to install my monitor driver, hope i haven't broke it now though, it has said windows is restarting for a few minutes and that's it. **UPDATE** Seam to have solved it myself, you being inspiration obviously! Windows 98, 1920x1080 on my gaming monitor, for now anyways. By the way, are you contactable off youtube? as in via email? thanks :)
I have a duo core machine with a shitty OEM GTS 240 GPU running on Windows XP I use to play all my PC games between 1995-2004. Runs like a breeze. I refuse to play many games older than that though, even though I am 32 years old.

I heard that getting anything older than Windows 2000 was a real pain systems that used the Pentium 4. Nice job.

7:29 compared to any other sound cards. Also, "Detective Theme" is a bad midi which has some bad octaved instruments compared to any other computers.
