My hood I bought brand new fits super bunk lol it’s not just gaps but it’s like raised from the fenders. I’m sure I did something wrong but seems like they’re using the same mold from 6 years ago
i recently installed a CF hood and i was curiouse about hood pin issues. is it a must to run with them or will i do fine with out them? iv been driving and fastest iv been so far is 65mph i have a little flap on my left because my head light has a slight droop and i also had to remove the left rubber bump stopie because of fitment issues. i have the pins sitting here but didn't wanna drill into my new hood.
JDM Delsol what happens (from my knowledge) is that the composite type material used to fuse with the carbon fiber, sometimes fiberglass, needs to bind with the latch because you cant weld it on like a steel or aluminum hood, so they use a very stong glue. This process can lead to stress cracks in the material and eventually overtime it can snap off, which if it happens while driving will either fly off or smash into the windshield. Now ive seen plenty of cars with carbon fiber hoods not run hood pins and be just fine. I have yet to read, hear or see a hood fail in an 86. For safety and legal reasons its recommended to use. If it were me id check for cracks near the latch every now and then just in case but for the most part if the hood is new you should be fine.
Is it me or does the inside of the hood look like normal plastic? Maybe i've seen it wrong because it was a little dark at that shot, or is there a thin layer under the carbon? Some people say this is a mix of glassfiber and carbon and the dry carbon version is fully carbon?
MrYaris it’s called frp.. double carbon hoods are much more expensive he won’t get anywhere near 750 if it was double sided carbon. That goes for most parts
looking to buy a brz ... the one i am looking at has a seibon fa-style carbon hood.. it has a pretty gnarly hood scoop and i’m debating if it looks a bit rice. seibon has awesome hood but do you think the hood scoop is a little much or no ??
Hey dude, I'm looking to get a vented hood for my FRS. Have you noticed any changes in performance, due to the new hood? I'm mostly wondering about engine temperature. Do you notice any difference about the heat in your engine bay. I dont know how to word it exactly, but I'm sure you get what I'm saying.
Rehab Junkie not really, it's around 105F where I live so I haven't noticed but I'm pretty sure more air goes to the engine so the heat is not trapped as much
If heat issues is really your worry(honestly most want it for the looks) you should go for a radiator upgrade and let the ECU do it's job controlling the temp.
@@dsgrts true, i want the looks, but it would be nice to know if the vents would make a difference, otherwise id just go for oe style hood... if they help with heat, then it is worth the 6 holes in the hood... if they don't help with heat at all, then there is no reason for the vents...
+Jasper Guan you need hoodpins for the ones that do not fit well aka the cheaper ones.. but you might lucky and find a cheaper one that doesn't need modification (people put the pins for extra safety) I did not lol
Anthony quack yes it will! Website says till 2014 but it does fit all models mine is a '16 seiboncarbon.com/tsii-style-carbon-fiber-hood-for-2012-2013-scion-frs-subaru-brz.html Here is the link hope that's helpful!
Just got my hood in today. I would recommend getting heat shield to put under the hood.
How long did it take you to get it

Can you give me a link to the shop where you got the hood or to the hood itself please? 🙂
Any issues with rain. Did you create any guards ?

Hey bro let me get the link please? Really want to buy this..

RickkertJonge there is a composite material kind of like metal, maybe some type of heat shield? But no it's not plastic.
MrYaris it’s called frp.. double carbon hoods are much more expensive he won’t get anywhere near 750 if it was double sided carbon. That goes for most parts

Not at all but it will look aggressive, it all depends what build you’re going for
did you buy that BRZ? If so can i buy your hood with the scoop...i'll even give you my stock one (raven) if you want.
I say who cares if its rice.. those hoods are not cheap.

I cut my thumb when taking off the hood. That shit hurted.
Update on the hood if you need hood pins or any cracks on it ?
Hey! No cracks and no hood pins ever need it. Unless you’re going to track the car you won’t need them.
Ilan Sicairos thanks for the reply man! Been looking into getting one
So if you're just doing freeway driving? You won't need the hoodpins?
would water getting through the slats damage the engine at all?
+Chrispy Chrispo it gets it a bit dirtier but not too much water doesn't get in any important components, mainly hoses and covers.
I'd paint the vents black
whats the weight saving?
Would this fit my Toyota 86 2012 GT. I swear there's pretty much no body difference in all 86 models.
Yes it will
any experience with rain? do you see the need for a rain guard? just got mine and wondering that question
Engine will get a bit dirty but no need for a guard
do you need hoodpins for a cf hood? im looking to get one but dont want to drill holes for hoodpins on my own.
+Jasper Guan you need hoodpins for the ones that do not fit well aka the cheaper ones.. but you might lucky and find a cheaper one that doesn't need modification (people put the pins for extra safety) I did not lol
They always say you need em and they're the smart move but I've known people who never use them and nothing happens. But yes you should get them
Any updates on not using a hood pins? I’m currently looking into getting a Seibon hood but I don’t want to use hood pins.
Had the hood for a year and no need for the SEIBON has an amazing fit so no need for mods to it
Ilan Sicairos Thanks For The Reply. I bought my hood and it’s awesome man I see what you mean.
How was the fitment on your 2017 civic? I have one in cosmic blue (dark blue) and I was wondering if it was worth it
would this hood also fit on my 2013 FRS? is there a link to the hood as well?
