Headed out for the first big hunt of the year.. hope you all are getting dialed in and feeling confident heading into the Fall.. I’ll be off the grid for a bit.. appreciate y’all!! ✊🏹 now go shoot your bow
I HAVE HUNTED AND SHOT ARCHERY FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND I WISH I HAD THE INFORMATION YEARS AGO THAT I GET FROM WATCHING JOSH JONES, I LEARN SO MUCH FROM YOUR VIDEO'S . I WAS SELF TAUGHT AND RELIZE NOW THAT I HAD MANY FLAWS IN MY TECHNIQUE , PRATICING WRONG TECHNIQUES NEVER MAKES IT CORRECT. THANKS FOR PUTTING IN THE TIME.
Man, thank goodness for UA-cam and podcasts! Back in the late 1900’s, telling my age, you had to know someone who knew something in order to get the information that is being seen by thousands now on these platforms! We were told that the broadheads just shot different than your field tips, typically high and right, so you just re-sighted in your bow to your broadheads when it got close to season. Sure wish we had known better! So thank you for providing this resource of knowledge. I’m really enjoying both of your guy’s channels and the wood stove conversations!
Going through the same thing right now, im out of time. Home gamer setup in my workshop. Appreciate the people we watch for info going through the same thing
thank goodness for you and MFJJ Been saying for years that a perfectly tuned bow is when broadheads and fieldpoints hit in the same place .. Great video great information
Nice video! Also guys, keep in mind there’s always the factor of human error. I know the goal is to make them hit exactly the same every time you shoot but it’s difficult to do that constantly without having some flyers right. I’d say start fresh (rest) after doing this excersice for a long time and then try again, then when you think you got it right, rest again and try it the next day to see if your first two shots (arrows) are touching, this is when I’d call it good.
One of the most comprehensive broadhead tuning videos out there. Thank you. Been going through all this again over the last few weeks getting ready for this season and had to cycle through about 6 other videos from other UA-camrs to get all the info that y’all put in this one. Also had to sift through a couple other videos that have the horizontal rest adjustment backwards. The method you described is absolutely correct. If someone has to do the exact opposite, go back to square 1, something’s up with that setup. Timing out, wrong arrow spine, etc. Question: do you like the high roller target? I need to replace my 18-1 (no complaints on it) but have been looking at the high roller. Specifically for broad heads.
Clean design and a sharp tip which is crucial. Many mechanicals don't have a sharp tip. Like Rage NC. They need to be hand shapered. That's what I do, and the blades. "STAY SHARP JIG"
Cool video tim. I just broadhead tuned my V3X 29 .at my archery club. I have the NAP HELLRAZOR fixed blade flying great. I cant wait for the season to start in September
Listen, Tim, this Josh golfing idea is the best content idea you've had! You absolutely must do a driving range swing workshop for him or a series of lessons... It'd be hilarious and really good for people getting into golf!
I went the bareshaft route just for the sake of shooting my broadheads less. I got the bareshaft paper tare down to a quater inch. First shot with the broadhead came out an inch low at 30 yards. So both definitely work
No lie I just had to reference the video today and I fixed my broadheads being 4 inches right because of y’all’s whiteboard explanation! Thanks again! I’m only 4 months into compound archery so it was my first time shooting any broadhead.
In the All Broadhead Tuning Questions video by Elkshape last year, MFJJ said if the broadhead hits left, move the rest right; the opposite of this video. Did what he said in this video and my BH and FP touch. But it makes my paper tune off. Can't have both a great paper tune and BH tune on my bow for some reason...probably just me. So I'm prioritizing the BH tune over the paper. Hopefully that pans out
Tim, I do this all the time too.. you definitely weren't even shooting crappy, maybe one was on the outer edge of the dot!!! Don't hold yourself to such high standards because its not possible to be PERFECT! Good luck on your first hunts!!
Litterally battling these things now and these are great nuggets! I'm headed to the bow shop in the am, but now i have a feeling i know exactly what i need them to check. Good luck on the hunt and thanks for the vid.
This is a great video and thanks for doing it! I've finally got my brodheads hitting with field points but it's been a frustrating journey to get there. I think this will help lots of folks like me that like to Woonsocket our own stuff!
Honestly the only ones I’ve seen close to as good as JJ is the Bow and Arrow shop dude from Bow Disciples. It’s hard to find that level of knowledge anywhere.
I haven’t seen a pro shop with even half of the knowledge Josh has in over 20 years. Nobody seems to care enough about their job, and your equipment to take any of the proper tuning steps. They take a bow out of the box, slap accessories on, tie a peep and d loop, and send you on your way. The only way we can get the most out of our equipment, is to either buy the press and draw board and do our own work, or drive to Washington and ask for MFJJ. Lol It’s sad and frustrating, but we all need to learn to work on our own bows
Great job on the video. It’s videos like this that has helped me build my setups and get incrementally better at it. Saved the video because I know I’ll have to come back to it again. Now if I could just kill a buck with a bow, that’d be great.
I’ve learned over the years that it is better to work on this more than ONE shooting session. We all have better days than others so a few different day sessions will usually give you a better feedback. That’s obvious. And people don’t shoot their broad head’s enough for whatever reason. Buy more than one pack and shoot them. Things change and it’s vitally important to know that throughout the season your arrows are hitting BEHIND THE PIN!
Very confused on the L/R movement. This is the opposite of everything I have heard and I don't understand why it would be different that the vertical adjustments.
I’m am confused on the order of operations… so I am going to assume the order goes something like this.. setup bow and eye everything to square.. then sight in enough to get on target at 20-30 yards.. then broadhead tune followed up by 1st/2nd/3rd axis shoot in adjustments? Also should you try this with multiple broadheads and what broadheads are recommended for tuning if you plan to shoot mechanicals with smaller vanes. I’m just not sure my smaller vanes will stabilize a fixed blade to begin with.
Can y'alls please do a video on grip, grip pressure, what 'adverse heel pressure' is, etc.? I'm struggling with tail left tears and feel it's my grip but I can't figure it out.
Great video Tim and MFJJ I need to start getting my bow broad head tuned. I am however really happy i bought that big high roller target today. looks like it can take a beating.
One must consider the abilities of the archer when broadhead tuning. You can’t just pick the one time someone hits the same hole and make your adjustment based on that one instance. For 90%+ archers, being within an inch of one another would be close enough as they’re likely not consistently capable of a group much smaller than that.
Nice video! Tim's arrow looks a little short for my taste. Broadhead is right behind his fingers. If there is a failure of the rest or your drawing in a hurry and arrow bounces of the rest, that may be very bad. I like hunting arrows a little longer.
Not gonna lie, I’ll take advantage of your code on Josh’s store as long as it’s available. Used it on my Bushnell Broadhead rangefinder a couple week’s ago. The price after the code was untouchable by any other shop or internet store
I was hitting broadhead left and when I moved my rest to the left it got worse, had a weird kick out on the back of the arrow, I think the fletching was hitting the side of the drop away housing because then, after I sent an arrow into the forest, I moved it back to the right I had the broadhead and field point hitting in the same hole.
Tim, ask Josh if he believes in setting the arrow rest right under the forward node of the arrow. I do that along with having the bow and arrows tuned. This usually gives me perfect broadhead flight.
That works pretty good thanks for the video the only problem is I didn't glue my insert good enough so I lost my expensive broadhead hard lesson learned😂😂😂
Cool! Next time, try to shoot the bareshaft from 20m instead of broadhead, you will set it up even more accurately.Even better with 30m if you can.(Paige Pierce shoots a bareshaft from 60 yards by the way)
I've always wondered, though, why no one shoots a field tip-arrow through paper after they've broadhead tuned their bow. To show if the tear is still a perfect bullet-hole. Just curious.
Now go back and paper test after broadhead tuning.(it should be out of tune again) So in fact paper testing in general is useless. Shoot a bare shaft to get the correct spine sighting in the bow left/right and up/down walk back tuning. Now going strait to broadhead tuning.
Tim, your shooting is looking really strong these days and looking even better since you got the Hoyt. Do you notice the difference since you got the new bow?
MFJJ If you took a bow that was tuned and shooting arrows with broadheads and practice tips in the same spot, then slightly moved the rest to the right and shot you would see the target tips hitting slightly right and broadheads hitting even farther right. You would not move the rest to the right to correct. It needs to move back to the left. Please explain.
Sweet vid! Helped me a lot! Curious, when you feel good about field and BH placement, and call it good, do you assume then that the rest location is correct for all BH's of the same type and sight there after?!
No more hand held release Tim? This clears up a lot of confusion on this process. After this there should be no reason to tweak the sight at all if its already dialed in previously?
I'm relatively new to high-end compound bows. What is the point of doing the initial paper tune if you have to move the rest to tune the broadhead anyway? Also, if I were to dedicate my bow to only hunting, could I just tune to the broad heads only and not worry about field points? From what I could gather, you were tuning for a happy medium between the two? I've been watching a few of your videos, and they've been quite helpful, cheers!
Been a while since I had to broad head tune. Just got new strings and a sight. Thanks for the detailed video! How far back were you shooting the beginning st the dice?
I know this is a month old. Not sure if you’ll get this but since PAs season doesn’t start until October I’ve just started checking things over. Decided to give fixed blades a try this year with the new V3X. My left and rights are good but I’m consistently 4 inches high at 20 and 30. Tries moving the rest slightly down twice maybe 1/16th total and did nothing. Was told by two bow shops my timing is on and it might just be the way it is. I have noticed the original shop set my nock height a little low so the center of the arrow is running maybe through the bottom of the burger hole. Would raising everything up so it’s center of the burger hole help? I’ve also heard some bows like nock high and mine appears to be 90 or very slightly nock high but not an 1/8th like I’ve been told. Just wondering if the master FMJJ would have any suggestions. Love you guys both especially with the technical content. Has helped me gain confidence in adjusting my bow on my own during the tuning process. Thanks!!
Good stuff man. I generally don’t have an issue getting B heads to hit with field points until I start to really stretch the yardage. That said, I’ve wondered at the process of bare shaft tuning and fletched arrow tuning through paper and then throwing that out the window for broadhead tuning. If I couldn’t get heads to fly with field points even though my bow was shooting bullets through paper, I would just use a different sight for broadheads. Anyways, who cares, I’m not a UA-camr. Good to see the joint custody of MFJJ is working out.
Just a try honest question I need an answer to. Does broadhead to fletching or vane alignment matter? I shoot field tips all year, then for hunting season I always buy new arrows square em up then fletch em aligned to the way the broadgeads are set in the insert....does Ant of this even matter?
I'm confused on why you move left and right towards the broadhead and up and down away from. Moving the rest impacts the broadhead more than field tip, so why are we not doing the same on both planes?
Headed out for the first big hunt of the year.. hope you all are getting dialed in and feeling confident heading into the Fall.. I’ll be off the grid for a bit.. appreciate y’all!! ✊🏹 now go shoot your bow
have an awesome hunt. GOOD LUCK!
Have a awesome hunt !!!! where I am we have about 40 days Kentucky first hunt of the year then Ohio opens and WV
Honestly, I like the raw side to this video. It’s cool to see people you look up to shooting like humans instead of robots.
Thank you my dude
agreed
Nice to see a regular guy shooting. Keep the content coming.

Thanks dude
@@TimConnor13 no problem man anytime.
I was struggling getting my bow tuned. This video 100% helped me get it where I needed to be. You guys are awesome
The best. If you are a hunter this is the only tuning process you need. Thanks
I just got new broadheads and will be tuning my bow this week. Thanks for the refresher.
Rad!

18-1 is more durable
I like watching the whole process cuz I’ve been frustrated chasing my tail with my own tuning stuff. Thx Tim
The best broad head bow tuning video on UA-cam. Thank you MFJJ and Tim!
Thank you very much for the info! I am just starting the broadhead tuning process and this will help tremendously.
Awesome!!

Tim's shooting lasers and good form. I'm trying to work on my grip and having a relaxed grip onto the riser.
Great job on this one Tim and JJ.! It's refreshing to see accurate info on broadhead tuning.
Saved your video so I can reference in future I thought y’all explained so good at whiteboard. Appreciate it

Awesome Raw video. Very easy to understand how to properly adjust for broadheads. Thanks guys keep up the great content and good luck in the woods!!

Great video, I learned a lot from this video especially from Josh about hand pressure in the grip! Keep up the strong work!
Great video.... love it
Thanks so much!
Nice video Tim! Tuning is always a fun filled Ride!
I live in Washington i love your videos and elk shape keep up the good work!
Keep up the good work not easy for anybody like us been struggling for cupples days with that fuc****** broadhead tuning and deal with wind
Good shooting Tim!
man I feel the frustration... its a journey bro just stick with it!!
Keep up the good work man. Your videos and podcasts are always educational, down to earth and relatable.
Awesome video Tim and Josh! Been working on broad head tuning this week. You guys always seem to read my mind, man!! Your killing it Tim !
Thanks my friend!
I kinda like the shot a day challenge . Makes alot of since to shoot every day if only couple shots. Love your videos

Great video the raw step by step gives you a real world way to do things . Mfjj like always very informative
Thank you!! I learned a lot from this video!!!
I shoot slick trick fixed blades, I've never needed to tune my broadheads...they seem to fly and hit perfect as my field points
That works pretty good thanks for the video the only problem is I didn't glue my insert good enough so I lost my expensive broadhead hard lesson learned😂😂😂
Dope vid, once again Tim. Love what you and MFJJ are doing with your channel. Look forward to the videos every week.

Thanks Tim.
Love this channel they make understanding archery easy .is a sandila dragon 8 a good starter bow? Or Hoyt/Matthews
Thank you sincerely
Good stuff! This would blow the Ranch Ferry’s mind
Great video. Very informative.
Josh looks like you have a sweet shop, would love to check out if im ever in the area!!
Good job Timmy nice shooting 👍
Tim, your shooting is looking really strong these days and looking even better since you got the Hoyt. Do you notice the difference since you got the new bow?

You would not move the rest to the right to correct. It needs to move back to the left. Please explain.
Do you look at your pin or what you are aiming for and just let the pin float all around? I hear two different schools of thought. Great video.
Good video fellas 👍👍👍
Bro. I never heard that nugget. Thank you 😭😭
Pretty good for being on camera.
Got to love the shank
I'm relatively new to high-end compound bows. What is the point of doing the initial paper tune if you have to move the rest to tune the broadhead anyway? Also, if I were to dedicate my bow to only hunting, could I just tune to the broad heads only and not worry about field points? From what I could gather, you were tuning for a happy medium between the two? I've been watching a few of your videos, and they've been quite helpful, cheers!
When changing the timing in the cams. Should you go back to paper tuning?
Broad head turning is such a Hassel when your dealing with wind
You should do a review on the best broadhead targets
Thanks!!
Can you please tell me where that archery shop is
I’m using an Elite Ethos with Hamskea Epsilon shooting at 2 pm from center of a clock so move downwards and right?
Good stuff man. I generally don’t have an issue getting B heads to hit with field points until I start to really stretch the yardage. That said, I’ve wondered at the process of bare shaft tuning and fletched arrow tuning through paper and then throwing that out the window for broadhead tuning.
If I couldn’t get heads to fly with field points even though my bow was shooting bullets through paper, I would just use a different sight for broadheads. Anyways, who cares, I’m not a UA-camr.
Good to see the joint custody of MFJJ is working out.
paper tuning is just a starting point, you will have to move your rest.
Lol….The range with all the stock in the way is killing me! 😲😆
Just a try honest question I need an answer to. Does broadhead to fletching or vane alignment matter? I shoot field tips all year, then for hunting season I always buy new arrows square em up then fletch em aligned to the way the broadgeads are set in the insert....does Ant of this even matter?
11:40 why do other sites say to move the opposite direction? Have you tested chasing field point. What’s the difference?
I'm confused on why you move left and right towards the broadhead and up and down away from. Moving the rest impacts the broadhead more than field tip, so why are we not doing the same on both planes?
Hey Tim, ask Josh what happens if the arrows hit the target sideways consistently!!??
I happen to do this same tune but my arrows all hit tail left.
