IT WORKED!!!!!! You know what mate you just saved me from buying too much power steering fluid. I took my falcon to my uncles to have a look and it does seem to be leaking from there luckily I replaced the pressure switch with a new one now it stopped leaking....once again thanks❤️❤️❤️

Awesome mate, you just saved me from removing the rack, even though I wasn't 100% that was the problem, I could see that switch covered in oil but didn't really know what the Fk was going on, very useful indeed, cheers.
JUST noticed the exact same thing on my series I. Fluid on the crossmember, none on the boots. spun me out. Watched this, went, looked... yup. One leaky arsed switch. I should have remembered from 10 years back when I had exactly the same problem HAHA!

Bend the open end of a spanner to 90 degrees, go in from the top. I made a special tool for that job about 4 years ago.... I've used it once !!! Mainly 'cause the racks barely last a year before dropping fluid, so it's usually a reco rack & new pressure switch at the same time.
Getting it out is a shit of a task , what's worse is the switch failing after a few months , I cut a couple of the old leaking ones open ( the alloy part that holds the connector end to the lower part ) they had both failed in the lower part and then the oil would force its way up through to the connector and leak out , as I had replaced 4 of them over a year I got jack of that and put a brass plug in it and did away with the switch . I would love to know what pressure these are running at as I could then go and get an adjustable high quality one to use
The rubber buna or nitrile "O" rings with the aftermarket switches also turn to mush and leak. You need polyacrylate "O" rings so get a factory "O" ring and/ or use power steering resistant sealant (LOCTITE HYDRAULIC SEALANT 569 and 542) and a factory "O" ring.
This job is much easier if you simply jack the driver's side up front and remove the front driver's side wheel; the switch is then very accessible. Then you can use normal spanners though I prefer a Metrinch for this job.
one thing i noticed was if the switch coming out is an original one with part numbers on it then the 14mm crows foot wont actually fit around the hex without smacking it on with a hammer, the origonal one must be 9/16th's or something and the aftermarket ones are 14mm or theres just manufacturer tolerance differences going on
yes l had the same prob,but one thing my AU falcon is a V8 so l dont have the room from the top coz my extractors are in the way NO ROOM so underneath undo the two nuts that hold steering rack on move it back about 1 inch cant move it any further unless you take the sway bar off use the shorten 14 mill spanner,,1hr later its off thank .F... FOR THAT now have a cold beer relax for 5 take a big breath then put the new one on or maybe find a small bolt(same thread ) with nylon or rubber O ring use some sealant my switch was not connected in the 1st place no drama's all good wont leak again ...

Mines been doing the same. Leaking for ages. Always topping it up. After long drives the oil was smoking out on my exhaust. Very dangerous ⚠️

Nice job oleboy was going to replace the whole rack, but can see the sensor now could be the problem.

Is it always the switch that leaks? I have a leak on my power steering too on my AU.
My first leak with these was straight from the pipe on the bottom of the tank. Got a new grommet, no problem.

I removed the wheel and still found access a real problem. I certainly had no chance of getting a normal spanner in..

9/16 is a better fit than a 14mm otherwise perfect. thanx
