Man, as a black guy I have always wondered. How in the HELL did we go from being called Nword by racist. To calling each other the Nword for fun and then still getting mad when someone says the Nword. I do it sometimes out of habit of hearing every one around me always saying it but in real honestly. We shouldn’t be saying this ridiculous word. Especially when you get mad at another race for saying it. You’re just using the Nword as it was intended. To divide. I wish we could agree to stop saying it as a whole but it will never happen. Talk about brainwashed.
Bro I'm Mexican and grew up around black friends and they always called me a "nigga" . I never took offense to it because it was welcoming to me (just my opinion) . It's just a word, I had another friend who is black as well who said to never use that word because it makes you look ignorant . My thing is , if referring to yourself as a "nigga" or saying "nigga" makes you look ignorant and not using the word at all but being offended when another person uses it wouldn't both concepts make you look ignorant because they both lead to division both internal and external . Also most not all blacks state that non blacks have no say in the matter because they ain't black . If a black person states that a non black person has no say in how or why a word (in English BTW) should be meant then once again this is division that is being caused by perception alone. If you're offended over a word but don't deny the fact that using the word is in essence to the existence of black American culture not because of the history of the word and degradation behind it as an insult but because what the word has evolved to now and so familiarized to the point that even non blacks use the word. Pick and choose a side neither is pretty one is the death of black American culture because unfortunately and fortunately that word is a major factor in the foundation of black culture whether you like it or not.

exactly. until Black people themselves stop finding excuses for using the word I don't see how they can tell people of other races not to use it. Either call out everyone who uses it, regardless of the skin colour and I mean all the rappers, movie stars, people on social media etc or stop complaining about it. Having said that, me personally, I would never go out of my way to use that word in any context, unless I'm perhaps in a situation where I have to give a detailed explanation of how certain events unfolded, where someone used the word. Language cannot be "privatised" my a certain group of people. Either we all agree that we don't use it or we just live with it and stop getting triggered.

With all due respect, that doesn’t really answer the question. @@klnj9714 I suspect far, far more exposure as well as English as a first language. That allows you to develop a favored and habitual English vocabulary according to etiquette and blacklist certain words from that vocabulary. The times in which I usually catch foreigners who didn't have English as their first language saying the n-word or using any foul language in general is when they are trying to mimic what they've heard others say in English without fully comprehending it. An example is a Japanese person trying to sing along to Jay Z in a Karaoke box. It defies their comprehension that the song could contain words this offensive while simultaneously being featured so widely and in ways that children can hear. If they understood how offensive these songs were, not only would they avoid singing along with them but also likely seek them to be censored or come with warning labels about the lyrics. One of the reasons it can be difficult to consciously correct long after the fact though is that our choice of vocabulary in everyday speech and especially when singing along isn't necessarily something we stop and think about so consciously with respect to every individual word choice. It tends to be more habitual and subconscious. People who don't use foul language whether it's the f-word or n-word often had parents that corrected and rehabilitated their children from using that language early on before it became a habit. It's like if someone commonly mispronounces a word and no one corrected them for years, it can be difficult for them to avoid mispronouncing the word the same way in the future even if they've consciously registered that they're mispronouncing it. They might continue to mispronounce it here and there for a while, having to catch themselves and correct themselves repeatedly until they overcome the habit of mispronouncing the word. This usually isn't something that happens overnight, and especially if the language is not the speaker's native language.
@@klnj9714 An example I thought up to illustrate the difficulty of perfectly controlling our speech in rapid-thinking contexts are these new gender pronouns like "xe/xem/xyr/xyrs/xemself". Even as a native English speaker, it might be easy to accidentally misgender someone by calling a person who resembles a woman a "she" even though "xer" desired pronoun is "xe". You might do this perfectly innocently and by accident even if you know this could seriously offend some people because, perhaps, you developed the habit over many years of referring to anyone who resembles a woman as a "she" and you're still constantly surrounded by people and saturated by media using "she" in these contexts. There can be a similar difficulty for a foreigner without English as their native language who loves hip-hop to learn never to allow the n-word to slip from their mouth while singing their favorite songs. It's not quite as simple as just knowing better; it's about developing better habits and overcoming bad habits.
@@klnj9714 I think you might be able to develop an understanding if you hang out with children or try to pick up a new language from popular media. Well, it might be a stretch to a native English speaker since there aren't popular songs that reach the top charts, for example, that contain such derogatory lyrics in other languages. You have to try to imagine what would happen if that were the case though, hypothetically, like imagine if the biggest hit song in the US charts and played very publicly on the radio, on MTV, in popular films and games, was a K-Pop song that contained Korean lyrics that are considered extremely offensive if uttered by anyone who isn't Korean. For example, suppose "oppan gangnam style" was hypothetically very offensive if uttered by anyone who isn't Korean or from Seoul (refers to Gangnam district). We would still likely find our share of Americans singing along to the song without understanding that. Once they do, it might still be difficult for them to stop singing that tune when they're alone or with friends who love the same song.

A lot of black people say it to each other as a dark humor joke basically. It’s racist if a non-black person says it Bc your race wasn’t a part of it. Like when Mexicans call each other “wetbacks” it’s their dark humor word. But if someone else said it, yes it would be racist Bc u aren’t a part of.
I am starting to question about equality... If a black person can say it and others can not...what would happen if a "white" person could do something while others could not ? If you are rich, would help the poor ? If yoi are poor, would you like to be helped by a roch ? What is equality ? Is it justice or selfishness ? Why do we want equality ? Is it fair ? Is it selfishness ? What ??? If you do not have power, you want equality...but what if you have the power ? Would you want equality ? What bothers me is when people talk about "white" or "black" it's kind of they are another being... A being that is called "black" and another being that is called "white"... It is so illogical!! This is already racism, it's the idea that each group are race, not ethnicity. Do we want justice ? Fairness ? Or is it all an excuse to be selfish ? The idea of the n word does not make sense in my head, some people accept it because they were taught that: "they can not, we can". Here's one example A black person has two kids with an asian woman: one kid is white and another kid is black... Who has the right to say the n word ? If the reason is ancestors then all of this kids can say it because both of them shares the ancestors of the mother and the father. If only the black kid can say it, the problem is in fact you. In my head it's this: we made a game that only us can play it, you should not play it because you don't belong in our standards! And the history sounds more like an excuse to keep this idea. Do you see a person as the past ? The problem is yoi in my opinion. Fallowing this idea i can say it: you shouldn't come to "my" country because your ancestors did a lot of bad things here. There's a lot of thing to discuss as a climate change that can kill a civilization. I am wandering whose the problem... We can not Denny that this word has a lot of bad meaning in the past, and if we want to change it we need to recognize it before changing the meaning. It makes me sad, that instead of people learn from the past, people are using the past for their selfishness reason and making another conflict. If the argument of ancestors works to you, then we gotta remember that all civilization has a huge debt to each other. I am not being rude, sorry if i was rude. English is not my forst language, it's just...it makes me sad that some people prefer to dehumanize each others...it makes me sense: Race doesn't exist and we are all one...what if race in fact existed ? The second my high school 9th-grade class had us read To Kill A Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men, I heard most every black student using that word for the whole year, then it kinda died down this year. That was a confusing time of my life since that was when I was just learning offensive slurs, the n word being one.
This was a drunk thought of mine: “Why do so many black people use the N-word, knowing the word’s history and the disgraceful, dehumanizing meaning behind it?” I looked up this question on google, and found myself to this video. I haven’t even watched it yet, but I came to look at how the people would react to it. To my surprise, I mostly just found other people who had the same question I did. I have two black, or at least minorty, friends. One is a lightskin American, the other Latino, and I have never heard them say this word ever, even to each other. In fact, many of the black people I talked to in high school didn’t say this word. I’ve maybe heard it once or twice as far as I can remember. So when I see so many popular black athletes, entertainers, etc use the word regularly like it’s nothing, it’s just very odd to me. Hopefully someone can provide an answer to this question I have, but again, I am drunk, so I may not even think about this tomorrow
So I had a situation the other day that I'd like to get some opinions on.....I am a white guy and two black guys(coworkers and friends) sitting in front of me,talking back and forth. Every 2 words or so was the N word. I asked them if they could stop. One,because we were in an office setting and one of the guys almost caused a fight when he used the word while talking to a different black guy a couple months back because it's use bothered him. Two, because another co worker who happens to be black had told me last week that he won't work with one of these guys again because of his use of the word. Aside from this, various people have called our office saying these two guys were using the word often while doing work for them, and it offended them. So when I ask them to stop and remind them where we are, the both got hot and said I can't be offended by them using the word because i am white. I'm offended by them using that word because two of my close friends and people I respect and care a lot about were offended by it. Was I wrong?
Ou no, u did good. IF you are at work, you need to act profesionally (depends on the job of course) but noone would be allowed to talk like this in my office and they would have a nice trip to HR right after.
No , you are not wrong. I'm black and I'm highly offended by that word even if it's another black person using it. The word is profanity and should be checked if using in a public setting. Using the word without regard for others is a major sign of having no respect for others.
I had the same experience because I’m white I was told why do you care and it’s none of your business they said it’s only ok when they say it I’m not understanding but in my opinion the word shouldn’t be used by anyone period regardless of race color religion etc
It confuses me when black people say it because it demeans their own community? it's a slur that hurts their people and ancestors. People of other races don't walk around saying demeaning racial slurs to each other.

im confused i get saying the n word as a white person can be bad and offensive but then why do black people use it to talk to eachother? i think its kinda hypocritical
Yeah its bad because its a racial slur. As for your second question I honestly don't know , its kinda like cussing to the extreme for black people since they re-claimed it , when another race says it , its racist.
This is a really bad argument. I've heard it before and its flaw is that it is based around the other situation you use for comparison being in the context of an insult. For example people who live in trailers can call each other trailer trash, but it's rude for an outsider to do it. This is because it's an insult. Using the n word in the exact same context that black people use it is not an insult. It's literally a term of endearment in many contexts. The opposite of an insult. The n word clearly is not comparable to these sort of examples.
I can understand the statement partially, for example that referring to each other with highly offensive words as a joke within a group of friends or ethnicity can be an ok thing, the thing that i can't understand is why it's used so frequently, to the point of making it equivalent of the word dude or bro ? I can't think of equivalent example where the case is similar. I guess we should accept the exclusive aspect of it.
Being fat is a choice. Being black isn’t a choice. But the question still would stand as to “why” people inside the group can use words or jokes about the group but people outside that group aren’t supposed to? This is what I refer to as political correctness by the way
@@bubblegumbxtch9544 With extremely rare exception, being fat is exclusively a choice because no one gets fat without eating, which is entirely a choice. This did not answer the questions. The person is basically saying that because some people see themselves as the Nword that it's ok for them to say it? WTF? No one should see themselves as the Nword. This is a societal problem, not an individual problem.
The question wasn’t “why are black people allowed to use it?” It was “why do black people use it?” I searched this question as a white person, not because I want to use the word--I find it gross, and wouldn’t use it even if it was considered ok-but because I genuinely want to understand why someone would casually use a word that has been used to degrade their ancestors and loved ones.

Retired Lakewood man says there is no division in the black community as to why the n-word is always appropriate.
Here's one example
A black person has two kids with an asian woman: one kid is white and another kid is black...
English is not my forst language, it's just...it makes me sad that some people prefer to dehumanize each others...it makes me sense:
Race doesn't exist and we are all one...what if race in fact existed ? What if there were another civilization not human living with us ? Would we live in peace ? We makes war to each other for a race that doesn't exist, we makes war for country and we dehumanize each others even tough we are all the sad..
We do not have a reason to fight each other and even knowing this we do...what if there were a reason to fight each other ? Would you accept it or live in peace with another race ?
"equality" is nothing more than a feel-good word to make us as a society feel like we've advanced since the pre civil rights era when we actually have gone backwards.
I would never use that word for black people but I hate when they call each other with that word like ppl of other races are not humans. seriously those people are the ones who're being racist. thankgod people like you exist who can understand whats right. Also I hate when they say that saying "all lives matter" is racist
@@mTrader1 bless you hunnay!
I dont believe it should ever be used on anyone.
Most blacks are more racist these days, reverse racism is a thing.
Treat people with fairness irrespective of color
If I wasn't overweight person, I still wouldn't make light or joke about any friends that I have that are overweight. I find this argument absolutely ridiculous! Quite sick to be honest.
im confused i get saying the n word as a white person can be bad and offensive but then why do black people use it to talk to eachother? i think its kinda hypocritical
Yeah its bad because its a racial slur. As for your second question I honestly don't know , its kinda like cussing to the extreme for black people since they re-claimed it , when another race says it , its racist.
@@pixelander yeah i dont get it
@@josephfraser174 its still a racial slur either way with racist history
@@pixelander yeah
Black rappers literally *SPAM* the n word in their songs, and I never understood why?!
The n word clearly is not comparable to these sort of examples.
stupid answer, the truth is that now blacks are being racist to other races
I can understand the statement partially, for example that referring to each other with highly offensive words as a joke within a group of friends or ethnicity can be an ok thing, the thing that i can't understand is why it's used so frequently, to the point of making it equivalent of the word dude or bro ? I can't think of equivalent example where the case is similar. I guess we should accept the exclusive aspect of it.
She doesn’t even answer the question
What I dont understand is that they say “we can say it because were an ethnicity” but white + all others races are ethnicity to, making no sense.
Right ! I don't get it why black people think it's ok to say it even if it's offensive like wtf???
Being fat is a choice. Being black isn’t a choice. But the question still would stand as to “why” people inside the group can use words or jokes about the group but people outside that group aren’t supposed to? This is what I refer to as political correctness by the way
Being fat isn't exactly a choice but it's something you can change. Being overweight isn't the same as systemic oppression based on your skin colour.
@@bubblegumbxtch9544 With extremely rare exception, being fat is exclusively a choice because no one gets fat without eating, which is entirely a choice. Genetics and circumstances may dictate how fat you can or can't get but getting to that point is nothing but choice and only choice (assuming that we choose what we eat). Anyone that disagrees with this is wrong.
@@TheManInTheMasks i get your point, and my reply is not a hate comment. I just want to clear out that people need to be aware eating disorder exist

Hypocrites pure and simple
We literally made nigga(not the hard r tho)
White people literally made so many things exclusive to them in the past but then we(black people) are suddenly hypocrites when we make something exclusive to us
@@hiitsmorgan5431 its a racial slur no matter the color of your skin. That said you can keep hip hop
@@Dog.soldier1950 awww look whos mad because we cant say a word. You dont know why we truly made it. We made it to counter the hard r, which is why we use it as slang for dude and bro. We tried to take the hate out of the hard r, but apparently it just created more hate because the people that left us out feel left out know
@@hiitsmorgan5431 State every single “exclusive” word white people don’t let black people use.
THAT was a very good example and comparison. I am white. I do not even consider using the N-word (nor any other racial affront of any race) Raised around all black environment. I had a surrogate Mother & Father, both black, their children- my siblings; attending a basically all black church together. At least in that place that I was in, I never heard anyone call each other the N word however I did hear some ppl sometimes call one another Negro or Negroid, though not in an antagonistic way- in a 'humorous' way. Um- I 'never' asked why that was ok... LoL?
i thought she was gonna answer the question but instead she talks about wieght lmao
That was explained very well. I’ve had conversations about why it’s ok for Blacks to use the word but no other race can. If it comes up again I’ll use your analogy. Thank you
We dont walk around calling other black people n*gg*r because that’s actually a racial slur. Nigga is an altercation of the hard r made by black people, we just use it as slang for bro and dude
This did not answer the questions. The person is basically saying that because some people see themselves as the Nword that it's ok for them to say it? WTF? No one should see themselves as the Nword. This is a societal problem, not an individual problem.
She never answered the question.
