      @Odell Mateo Go for the manly types, huh ? Husky voice in your ear drives ya crazy, does it ? Surely theres a channel out there better suited for ya, unless of course you consider yourself more the the cupid/ Centaur type with a he-man fetish, and like the Klon porn along the way, in which case I won't spoil it for ya, you love archer you. Let them arrows f.f.fly and mind the speaker, loverboy. Don't get too carried away, your buddy might sneak in and surprise you into near sudden microtonal awareness. With it though, you cant enjoy it for a moment with your eyes all bugged and seeing gristle.

    • @migueldospachangas7716
      @migueldospachangas7716 4 роки тому

      @Odell Mateo ?? Er, No comprendo. - Not how it works. I wrote it slow, as some read slow. Peruse more s l o w l y, that should make it clearer, and more discernable. There remains a wee bit more in the well of Klon Smack . Succint, aint me
      Sure it's partially an individual's playing, and surely the quality of tone helps too. My old orange distortion pedal sounds like zingy crap. Now if you were needing some zing for the song, you can adjust the mount of bees buzzing in the pedal, turn the Buzz knob clockwise, it may have another term affixed to it. When the EJ violin-like tone is desired, lose the Bee Zinger pedal, and employ some real tube in a pedal type device, or a high dollar device such as this. The caption to the pedal, along with the price -is what it is. Anything thats been out for a while, in enough numbers to see the market drive up, (or down) - is highly likely to be a reflection of how many others feel about it. That lofty price might well be overly inflated, but the arrow is clearly up for this pedal.
      Shite, in guitar pedals at least, doesn't inspire scores of clones.
      If ya just wana chew on the gristle, and clearly some do, the $39,50 Throbbing gristle pedal is the device for you. Wrote that so slow, it took a while. Google gonna be searchin for the Throbbing Gristle pedal shortly. Hope its still 39 bucks, or Odell gonna need another explanation. Note* I own only the Boss DS 1 of all the pedals mentioned above. No one has gifted my a Klon through the mail, or influenced anything. Just me, attempting to steer Odell through any Throbbing gristle what might attack him, or converesly, urging prudence in using his own throbbing gristle to put some buzz, thus influencing another. Further, - it's not my genre. Moreover, I don't go for any of that M & M's either. No Leather teddies occupy my closet, don't wanna whip anybody - who the hell has time to tie somebody up anyway ?

    I currently have a friend’s ktr on loan to check out. I was quickly able to match its tone with my MXR Sugar Drive, which was loosely based on the Klon. It doesn’t hurt that the Sugar Drive was designed by Jeorge Tripps. I did two tests- one into the clean channel, and one into the dirty channel of my Orange Rockerverb 50 Mkii. It was surprisingly easy to match the tones to where I couldn’t tell them apart while having my son switch between them while not looking. What a great era for gear

    I built one a couple years ago and for about a year i only used it for a clean boost with a little bit of gain. Which is still excellent and i highly recommend it but this past year ive been using it as you would a regular overdrive. I keep the gain about 3, tone varies on what my amp is set to, and the level is set to about 5. So the idea there is keeping it rather low and boosting the amp. But unlike a tube screamer its a really nice warm boost that still pushes your amp into the sweet spot but without all those extra mids or high end. For the longest time my favorite gain tones have been a warm marshall boosted with my TS9 that i modded for two optional bass boosts or boosted with the Brain May style treble booster i built. And "that tone" cover A LOT of ground but its all on the brighter side. I started to realize how much my rhythm playing and tone was suffering because i was taking away that warm full resonance and bass that is what makes a marshall a marshall. At first i didnt think you could get those sweet slightly compressed gain tones without a mid boost or treble boost or more gain at the amp of course. But like i said this last year ive been really happy to discover that you can get that same sorta sweet spot with a more "transparent boost" but with the klon its this really warm full wall of sound type of sweetness that is perfect for rhythm cause it wont get lost in a mix but it will also let other instruments come through also. I hate calling od's transparent BTW but i know by saying that anyone who owns a klon or another similar od will know what i mean. Anyways this might be obvious to some but i highly recommend trying to use your Klons and klon style pedals/clones as overdrive boosts rather than just clean boosts. It will take a little trial and error but the tones you can get are well worth the effort. Klons do excellent clean boosting but they can really do some amazing this on their own into a clean amp or with the settings a little lower into a slightly crunchy amp.

    Great video Chris! It's a phenomenal clean boost indeed, adds fantastic response and enchases the EQ. I found another great use for it by turning up the drive considerably and pushing it with another drive / boost (with gain on low and lots of volume) and it has an incredible high-gain and harmonically rich sound.

    I love my KTR. It’s the only overdrive pedal on my board. I stopped using it as a clean “always on” boost and started using it as an overdrive. Sounds great! To everyone out there who has one, try it. You won’t be disappointed. Best.

    Great demo of a great pedal. Don't use a lot of heavy overdrive and this pedal just gets that hair of OD that I'm after in a really musical and transparent way. I love it. I have an EP boost, Zen Drive, an Xotic RC booster, which are all great, but the KTR is better. The only thing I've tried that I like more is the valve boost in my Fulltone Tube Tape Echo - which is incredible (and expensive!), but it's too big to lug around.... so now it's the KTR and El Capistan for me. Even with a great amp the KTR just pushes you up to another level. Once it's on you CAN'T turn it off.
    Love your playing by the way. You have that magic touch that makes all your guitars sing. Interesting how playing with your thumb and fingers (no nails) gets you that great bloom in the picked notes. To be honest I can't think of that many guitarists whose touch I'd put above yours, and I just discovered your channel yesterday. Everybody really digs that tone (which is the kind of thing I go after but not so successfully :-) ) - it's really heartening to see so much love on here for the sound of a guy who has clearly put in the effort to play dynamically and melodically - and by and large cleanly - rather than relying on pyrotechnics or effects.

    Great explanation. My mate got a KTR when they were first released and I was blown away buy it. Both as a clean boost and as a very amp-like overdrive. The sustain with apparently no compression was the thing that most impressed me. It does a similar thing to a TS in that respect but just sounds so much more open. :-)

    I bought mine in 2018 . It is the best overdrive pedal . The pedal is transparent . So when you play with a lite touch or a heavy hand it responds . This pedal replicates your dynamics while other OD pedal's don't . This pedal works great as a clean boost and if you are pushing your amp , this pedal is the best at boosting your driven sound . There are still KTR's on reverb for $600 ..... If you are searching and have the means BUY ONE . These will be selling for $1500 .

    Just bought a KTR new at list price (not the scalping prices online... thanks Humbucker Music). Great pedal, different from the King of Tone or vintage TS9, and sounds wonderful hitting the front of a tube amp. I have to chuckle at Bill’s humor on the pedal’s graphics. Another thing he must laugh at is how people insist on using it sideways because the lettering goes that way, even though everything else on the pedal indicates it’s designed to be used with the knobs at the top. Hilarious. I don’t know Bill, but I like the way he thinks.

  • @IndyRockStar
    @IndyRockStar Рік тому

    You have the story wrong. I heard this story directly from Josh Scott at JHS. Josh said he started making a Klon clone, and when Bill Finnegan found out about it Bill was PISSED. It's a long story, but Josh said out of respect for Bill he agreed to stop making them. Josh did say there was nothing legally holding him back, but as a pedal designer himself, he felt it was the right thing to do at the time. Josh said he promised Bill to not make another Klon clone until after Bill was done making them. Josh has held to his word and still hasn't made one even though Bill stopped making the pedals after the KTR. Although, Josh is contemplating starting production again on the Klon clone given the current condition of the market and flood of copies out there now.

    Damn son, you're a great player. Kudos, and that Revstar has me greener than a tubescreamer :)
    If you're on a budget and can find one, the Clone Central Centaur comes very close to the KTR. Shane from "In The Blues" did a comparison a while back. $98 from EBay, but it can be tricky to find a legit CC Centaur, as there are so many garbage clones that use the same gold box, font, artwork. An EHX Soul Food or Wampler Tummus will do the job, but they are a little different to the Klon, tonally, more like "inspired by" the K-circuit. Tummus has more gain and bottom end (and top, now that I think about it. Wider Q sweep, perhaps).
    Ethics be damned, I bought the clone.
    If I had the dough, I'd probably go with the KTR, it really is a fat clean boost. The Ceriatone is lovely. Makes me want to try one of their amps.

      Cheers Matt, I'll have to check that Clone out. Buck and Evans it's unreal lol. It's a super maleable amp. You can make it do a lot of things. With a full range overdrive and the mid cranked a bit high, you could easily play ACDC, but it works super well for John Mayer esque tones. It's a great pedal platform too. I have the Tumnus and the RimRock Lil MO (Mythical Overdrive). Both sound the same, but the Tumnus is more compressed/muffled, whereas the MO is wide open. I like them both, and sometimes stack them. I haven't tried the new Tumnus, don't really feel the need to really. Two Klones are enough for me. I use the Tumnus and MO for the slight overdrive the most. Seems kind of pointless not to use it for that, when it is in the pedals, but it depends on what I'm using it/them with in the signal chain. It can vary.

      Buck and Evans It is hard to describe the differences between the two. I can set both to the exact same settings and the MO is clear, whereas the Tumnus reacts like it is under a blanket. I did not notice this until I bought the MO and A/B'd them.
      The Lil MO has a mini toggle to switch between the diods. The larger MO gives you options with diods, whereas the Lil Mo has only the stock ones. You can also have a custom MO (large sized) made as well, with a modest upcharge. Saving on pedal board real estate, I opted for the Lil MO.
      I have a pretty large collection of pedals. Some are mass produced, but I actually like the one man handmade pedals just as much...such as RimRock, Big Knob, and Guitar Tech Craig. Basically clone pedal manufacturers, but true to the original analog designs, and at a very affordable price, here in the United States.

      Not sure that makes a difference at this point considering he sells them for as much as you can buy an original for. I mean...hes literally charging people $2600+ for a new pedal.
      Twenty six hundred bucks. Sometimes more. Saw one that sold for over 3 grand.

    There are so many "Klons" (meaning clones or semi-clones) for sale these days at very reasonable prices, there is simply no need to spend so much for a used pedal.

    you got to check out the RYRA klone. it's a hand built part for part reproduction of the original Klon. It sounds amazing, I can't imagine the original sounding any better. they are about $200 USD. cheers.

    how do you record your guitar sound when making these videos? Thank you
    I really enjoying your guitar sound. I think the thing I like about it the best is your use of a compressor

    When I used a Boogie, it was so gainy that my Klon was the only OD which sounded any good. My Wampler Euphoria and Fulltone Plimsoul were way to harsh for the Boogie. They work well with my Princeton though. 👍

    It's frustrating to see the price on some of these pedals which cost dollars to build.. if interested we can custom build a klon for 250 where you can choose your enclosure color, style and color of knobs, LED and location of the jacks for pedalboard convenience. we use top quality components that have been tested and matched, all point to point. These prices especially for the original klon is a crime.

    Isn't a HYPE just check out the RYRA pedal If you looking for the perfect clean boost, Sparkle top end with killer harmonics jumping of your finger with much better overdrive than any KLON pedal, smaller in size at $200 price tag...The only down side is the ridiculous name given to this pedal....save $3000 and check out the RYRA Rock Your Repaired Amp boost pedal.

    That wasn't a joke on the front of the KTR. That's REAL. There was no joking behind that. He was dead SERIOUS. The hype around that pedal was not of his making. So don't be pissed at him because you can't buy one for less than $5k. He didn't do that. We did.
    So where's the joke exactly? There's noting remotely funny about it. It wasn't said tongue-in-cheek. He was dead serious.

What a great era for gear.
