Thank you for these shows. They are incredible and bring important issues to light. My only concern: going by the linguistic capabilities of the youth, it might be important to maybe tone down the complex vocabulary. I know these are very erudite scholars and perhaps cannot help it, but using simple language will increase viewership and help get the message across faster!
The only way, I think, is to radically change our education curriculum on a national level to ensure critical thinking right from early level. Children are the future.
Our government remove evolution from class 10th.
आंबेडकर का जाति उन्मुलन का विचार युटोपिया जैसा खोखला नही है. जाति उन्मूलन होना तो है. लेकिन धीरे धीरे. लोगो के विचार मे बदल लाते हुए. उसके लिए सामाजिक, अर्थिक, राजकीय तथा सरकारी स्तर पर उसको समाप्त करने के प्रयास कुछ दशकों के बाद निश्चित सक्सेस होंगे.
हरएक सरकार की मंशा पर जातिविनाश की गति निर्भर होगी.
I want more and more of Satish Sahabs enlightening interviews on caste and other sociology topics. He(one of his books) is the one who introduced me to sociology of India. Also I read great deal about Gramsci because of him. ❤

पश्चिम जब जाति ही नहीं है तो पश्चिम से आयातित कैसे हुई. जब कि जाति शुद्ध रूप से भारतीय है. जाति को यहां के लोगों ने ही बनाया है. जाति वर्ण का ही विस्तारित रूप है.

Thank you for this remarkable episode. A thoughtful discussion - I liked the premise & Prof Deshpande’s exposition on caste being a part of our contemporary reality. You still see caste based atrocities everyday - yes we are unlikely to get through a month without an incident. I truly appreciated that very subtle & succinct response to those who live in a parallel reality (the supposedly educated upper castes) who think that casteism has miraculously been wiped away. Difficult to counter that. But what statistics lays bare - is not just the resulting impact of denial of opportunities by caste today- though that is a good counter to skeptics.
The truth is that it would take far more heroic efforts than our current policies to undo the or the pernicious impact of the existence of the age old system of ‘reservation’ we have always had in society- knowledge based jobs & opportunities have always been reserved for upper castes. This underlying policy of reserving certain jobs for certain castes which has & is our reality is at the root of our problems is it not? And statistics indicate that no amount of the state’s affirmative action can counter this - not just because it is too little but because it would take several more generations of actual development & extension of opportunities to reverse the denial of knowledge & resources to sections of society for over a millennia.
But thank you for tethering your arguments to the basic reality of today. Made me pause & focus,

Surprising that Prof Deshpande should make it a point to mention Savarkar's 'efforts' on the subject of temple entry. His role is quite deceptive, as in all endeavors of his and is as good as drawing a red-herring..

जाती कोई आवश्यक या अटल चीज नही है ना ही वह किसी सवाल का समाधान है. उलटा वह एक अनावश्यक और अनावश्यक प्रश्न तथा समस्याएं उत्पन्न करती है. भविष्य मे करती रहेगी.
जो जाती की वजह से फायदे मे है वो जाति की आवश्यकता तथा अटलता पर बल देते है. हालाकि भारतीय संविधान लागू होने के बाद भारत ने तत्त्वतः जाति को शनै शनै समाप्त करने की कसम खाई है.

Unless we talk about a topic/subject, it is difficult to have a complete understanding about it and Casteism is a very complex topic, which is ingrained in the DNA of every person in the Indian subcontinent.
The real problem is how you define caste, and concept of caste , inequality is barrier

सर,जात,इस शब्द का सही मतलब क्या है? बुध्द के समय ,जात का अर्थ, " जन्म " ,जन्म होणा, होता था. बुध्द को जब ज्ञान प्राप्त हुवा था, तब उनके प्रथम उद्गार है. "अञ्यं अंतीमा जाती" . इसका मतलब है, यह मेरा अंतीम जन्म है. जन्म होनेको ही, जाती होना कहा गया है. हम, सरनेम को जाती बना सकते है. सरनेम ही हर किसीकी पहचान हो. और सरनेम कभी भी बदला जा सकता है. इससे जातीवाद अपणे आप नष्ट होगा.
चर्चा केवल राजनीतिक तथा पाॅलिटक्स के स्तर पर हीनहो रही है. सामाजिक स्तर शायद विचार मे नही लिया जा रहा है.
