In all my carpentry work, I pre-drill every hole and this keeps the wood from splitting. My best guess is that ancient Indian builders knew how to soften the granite and then predrilled every connection. Inserting a hardened nail into a slightly softened and predrilled hole might explain everything. Now, how then learned to soften granite, I cannot imagine.
Ancient people figured out how to bend boulders n stuff. Or the granite could've been pierced with metals nail first to create openings for granite nails of the same size and shape. My guess is this roof is representative but the architects were not trifling. We've seen that ancient Indian artisans commissioned to build important works were meticulous and they didn't skimp on the elbow grease. It's probably assembled as if it were functional and partly made of metal, with continuous granite rods inserted through the rafters.

Would like to visit this temple one day. As you mentioned, it is individual blocks made from granite and then assembled. But the precision with which each blocks are made to match another is stunning.
Agreed. It is highly improbable that anyone could assemble such a structure with the battens and rods. The nails are certainly carved regardless. But even carving such deep and precise undercut shapes in granite is astonishing. We can see in in Chinese Jade carvings, so it is certainly possible. But so precisely and repeatedly on such a scale as this is mind boggling. I can only assume they had diamond grit at the very least. One often forgets that Granite is not only hard, but the grains are irregular in size and vary in hardness, so using modern tools, the edges of the cut can crack off irregularly, following the grain, if the cutting tool is not running at the proper speed and feed rate. The same is true with hammer and chisel. I’d love to see these blocks up close!
Thanks for bringing these monuments to my attention. So much research on every video, such a selfless service. Everyone wonders why India remained Hindu majority after so many invasions, I think I know the answer, these countless indestructible temples. You are doing a great service for future generations who are turning to be disrespectful to traditions. Thanks Praveen.
The skill in carving stone to look like a true battened roof and not just a shallow relief of such, is already incredible. I would be surprised if we could approach the quality of such work today. And BTW, how in the world could they carve the back side of all these pieces and once done, hoist it into position without breaking it. Although granite is hard, when cut into slabs it will flex and break if not supported every so many feet.
@@wrider3728 just watched Praveen Mohan! 🤣😂🤣😂 Praveen Mohan .. and the masters of universe! Mohan sir : *With the power of clay tiles .. i am the POWER* .. 😂🤣😂🤣
Your explanation about this being carved in unit blocks is right on. We have worked with granite stone masons for hand dressed artistic carvings. Nails, rafters, ropes of granite is seriously far fetched as longer it gets, the more brittle it gets and add weathering, natural micro grains and cracks. Blocks they are. Well done Sir.
Wow! Excellent finding Praveen. If you observe some other temples, we see similar roofs. For example in Chennakesava Temple at Belur, we see similar roof (behind Madanikas) - with more intricated (floral) formations and also in multiple layers. I am sure they are not wooden because of the history of the temple and almost entire temple is make of rocks. Hoyasaleswara Temple at Halebidu also has roof with multiple layers of beams (some curved at the outmost layer) and again we see thousands of bolts. Awesome technology to learn from these ancient temples. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
In our Village home, there are long logs of wood to support the roof, we asked our grandfather how such big logs of wood raised to such heights that today would require 20 people or machines to put that in place, we were astonished to hear that a single man working as farm help during our great grandfather times raised those logs in his shoulders 😮 alone
Yes some things can be done surprisingly by a single human… however this is granite.. an extremely hard stone to manipulate or move at the size and proportions of these buildings… this isn’t human capability.. it just isn’t.. we cannot replicate it now with our tech.. think that through a minute…

As a former civil engeneer I think you are right !! i agree your theory😀 A detail shocked me ..the " nails" . Their size reduces the section of the cylindric part which crosses the beam. So it's not used in building. Rock ( granite) or concrete have a high compressive strength but low tensile strength, it's the reason why rebars are used to resist against tensile. In this case , granite rebars can't resist to tensile strength and aren't usefull because there is no tensile in this direction or part of the building structure . Thank's for your videos Praveen🙏😀🙏 Richard from France 👍😎🇫🇷

Ancient culture and technology rise again through Praveen sir... Your elaboration like you was recruited as a direct monitoring officer of when they being construction that temple.....❤❤❤
Okay, I think first off; the entire structure made of granite appears impossible for many reasons. However, for ease of assembly, your animation of holes and rods and granite pins looks most logical. But manufacturing long granite rods would be extremely brittle and would crack and break upon assembly. So, I agree that your theory of appearance is correct, but the actual finished creation by hand carved methods, I find impossible. Not impossible by proof of existence… Must be that the ancient pictation of many powerful gods like Vimina, must be a clue. An unfamiliar ancient technique and technology for sure. Great channel and presentation! You are Amazing
Marvellous Praveen!. I too concur with you.The granite nailing also feels superfluous. Surely they are so beautifully sculpted to appear like the batten roofing.
I agree with you, and I do believe there is more than enough evidence to support such a theory, as "crazy" as it may sound to some... personally I think "petrification" can happen extremely rapidly in certain environments and conditions (namely, a highly electrified environment).
@@asb3pe perhaps if it is true. Then the question arises, did they have some technology for petrification? If that sounds absurd and one thinks there couldn't be any advanced technology and petrification happened naturally. Then man! one gotta believe that this structure is probably millions of years old.
That takes a few 100s to million years. Not thousands. It is granite carving. It can be done even today. I belong to the same professional clan. It is possible.
The engineering Marvel of these ancient Indian temples is mind-blowing! They must have had deep knowledge on structural engineering too. I tried to understand how these panels withstood the load above them for 1000+ years

Dear Praveen, instead of thinking of the granite rivets as being hammered into solid granite, do consider them as granite pegs hammered into pre-drilled holes. Perhaps the ends of these pegs were melted to give it a clean joint. Also, Granite is granular and could be crushed and later used as reconstituted granite... Literally poured in.

Great work sir. One of the very few persons to understand our culture and show it to the world.
Would like to visit this temple one day. As you mentioned, it is individual blocks made from granite and then assembled. But the precision with which each blocks are made to match another is stunning.
Most Hindu temples are not open to non Hindus. Because of inherent lack of respect and destruction by invaders.

You should visit Tambdi Surla temple in South Goa. 12th century Shiva temple from Kadamba era temple made of basalt. Curious to know about it.
Absolutely no clue how they did it!!!!!! We have lost so much history.. because of invasion and distriction of huge knowledge!!!
Its not even about how they did it, why the made it looking like this. What it symbolise and what is the meaning of it.

As a former civil engeneer I think you are right !! i agree your theory😀
A detail shocked me ..the " nails" .

My friend I have some input on this. I am not an authority, but I am an experienced professional in all types of commercial and residential construction and I can tell you with confidence that no contractor would even consider such a project and if they did the amount of time and money would make the job unthinkable and impossible as far as we understand and do things.
Every child in India knows all ancient temples huge complexes where built only by Vishwakarma n his ancestors or followers…
Absolutely amazing I have no idea what to think. It’s just fabulous no matter how it’s made.
Marvellous Praveen!. I too concur with you.The granite nailing also feels superfluous.

Dear Praveen, instead of thinking of the granite rivets as being hammered into solid granite, do consider them as granite pegs hammered into pre-drilled holes. Perhaps the ends of these pegs were melted to give it a clean joint.
Also, Granite is granular and could be crushed and later used as reconstituted granite... Literally poured in.
