As a loyal TMS fan until the reconfiguration ... seeing guys ride the wall and get massive runs coming off the corners made racing at that track incredible
the 1999-2016 track, was absolutely a reputable, fun track. Just go watch some of the "high horsepower" videos, and half the clips within the video were battles from that time period. It really shined with high horsepower. A few that instantly come to mind, would be he 2001 Harrah's 500...(i suggest yall go back and watch the last 25 laps of that race...its every bit as good as harvick's atlanta race, except jarrett finished off the pass a lap early). Others include: Brad vs Jimmie in 2012, where they bounced off each other on the strait, Jeff vs brad in 2014 (the fight) Bothe 2007 races were epic (burton vs kenseth, then Jimmie vs kenseth). the 2010 spring race was epic (one with a big one style wreck, but racing was great in general), And of course the 2004 photo finish where Elliot Sadler held off a rookie Kasey Kahne. Sure, there were some stinkers along the way as well, but thats true of literally every track on the circuit, and inherent of any racing series. I think that old texas, with high horsepower, and the worn pavement/running multi grooves, was on par with the best of them in terms of racing, if not better. They absolutely ruined it in 2017 by removing the banking. They should just admit their loss, reconfigure to what it was, and let the surface wear from there. People forget how good Texas really once was.
Hopefully when they reconfigure the track, it’ll be great again. Let’s hope it’s the 1999-2016 version (there’s a reason why I say 1999-2016 instead of 1997-1998) Fingers crossed, folks!
I am one of the fans who still likes Texas. Plus, the races April 2017 and the fall were good in the Cup Series. 2018 was great. So was the Xfinity Series race in November that year. The March race for the Cup, Xfinity, and Craftsman Truck Series were great. The fall Xfinity and Cup races were decent. The 2020 July races for all 3 Series were good. The Xfinity fall race with Harrison Burton pass on the last lap was great. And despite the Cup race was dealing with weather for 2 days, that race was good imo. The only Texas race I didn't care for was the fall 2021 due to Larson kicking everyone's butt
The only reason why I love TMS is because its the only speedway oval track close to home. You got COTA as the road course, and you got this track as the oval; NASCAR races both of them and I enjoy every moment of it. Now I understand why everybody hates it and it shows, but that won't stop me from having a hell of a good time. i cherish every moment of NASCAR every time i go see it live in person.
My 2 oppions on what to do with Texas is A: leave it as it is, as it wears out and they get rid of stuff they put down the racing will get better and it will become one of the better tracks in 5-10 years. B: if they have to change it, go extreme on what they did in turn 1-2 all the way around, have little to no apron (think like Pocono) and maybe even shrink the infield a bit so they can make it even wider. and make the corners much flatter. They can advertise it as the widest track in NASCAR because everything is bigger in Texas and try to advertise it like a Pocono restart but all the way around the track. Could you imagine "5-6-7 wide not going into turn one" but "5-6-7 wide IN turn 1" that would be how you market it. personally, I like A more but if they have to change it, do something completely different than what is around, as Larry mac said "if you're going follow the leader, you're going to follow the leader"
@@marcforget33 So Auto Club and New Hampshire don't have multiple grooves? with the lower banking, you would be hovering right around where Auto Club is currently. I would also make it progressive banking to help fast-forward the multi-lane. Yes it would not be a “next race its fixed” but in the long run I think it would be multi lane.
As an Indycar fan in addition to NASCAR, current TMS is ideal for that series as old TMS was way too dangerous for Indycar. Kenny Brack's massive crash there in 2003 & the absolute disaster that was CART's attempt to race there in 2001 (where drivers were blacking out due to the G's in the corners) are just two examples of this. In my view any changes to TMS to help NASCAR will likely result in Indycar having to drop Texas from the schedule because the changes would likely result in the track producing much worse Indycar races or make the track dangerous again to the point where it would end up like Pocono where the drivers refuse to race there.
Texas wasn’t the greatest track before the reconfiguration. However that May have been due to the Gen 5.5 and Gen 6 cars which were very aero dependent. What I meant by Gen 5.5 were the cars run in 2011 & 2012 with those ugly front ends. Honestly I would turn Texas into a 1 mile concrete oval like Dover raise the banking to between 25-30 degrees.
As someone who lives only 20 minutes from there and went to an IndyCar race there this past April, it was fun. IMHO, it's the package that NASCAR has on the intermediate tracks nowadays that caused the track to become bad in most people's eyes
I still think a 3 Mile Super-Duper Speedway with 35* turn banking and 20* straight and trioval banking is the way to go for TX. Everything is bigger in TX so let's make it bigger! Hell, let's put a road course in the center shaped like the TX state borders for the Trucks and maybe ARCA to run on.
The 2015 Playoff Texas race was my first time going to a race in person, a race I’ll never forget as a Jimmie fan who got to meet him prior to the race and watch him pull off the win in the closing laps. Every Texas race I went to after that other than the truck race Biffle won have been pretty forgettable, I hope there’s a way for Texas to find it’s former self again
I got to drive in the track in June and I think the racing is probably gonna be a bit single file. The banking just seems like you’d get way too lose if you run higher on the track than the bottom to bottom middle. The car I got to drive was limited to 150 and made the track feel super grippy but just from entering the corners it seems like it’s gotten more to the point of having one entry point and one lane. I hope I’m wrong because I actually get to be in the garage area and pit road this weekend but I’m not really holding too much hope for pure racing this weekend
I'd argue what made the racing at Texas worse was NASCAR's obsession with lowering the horsepower during that time. It wasn't just Texas that was bad, the same could be said about most of the intermediates as well.
I like TMS, but I think I needs to adapt if it wants to stay on schedule. Atlanta already got turned into a super-speedway so maybe instead of that, We make it a .75 mile track? People wanted more short tracks (until the gen 7 made the racing real boring), and It would be in a decent spot away from the Virginia cluster of short tracks. It could be a western colosseum something like that. To me that’s a better idea them giving it the Atlanta treatment, or worse, junking it.
I'd argue that Texas wasn't good from 1997 through 2000, then it became a good track from 2000 through 2017. And the good racing will come back to Texas, regardless of what happens to the track.
Yes Texas can be redeemed. We need it back to Pre-2017 Texas & have the asphalt age and then we'll be back to the good old racing I've sorely missed for so long. If they don't want it back to the old configuration, turn it into a progressive banking track.
@jabber1990 There is a certain type of asphalt that can age quickly. In the end, it'll take time for the speedway to age in general to when we'll get to have really good racing there.
We all miss pre-repave Texas sure, but it was always viewed as a pretty mid track. Let’s not all act like Texas was once this top venue and most anticipated races of the year, because it never was. It was just another cookie-cutter 1.5 miler. The high HP cars brought out the best in it, but it was never one of these great tracks everyone is saying it was
They say everything bigger in Texas so it bigger. Hey Nascar took California speedway from us and that was a big mistake "Thanks Nascar" there was some awesome racing at California speedway. So make Texas a Super Motor Speedway there are only two big tracks in Nascar Daytona and Talladega so make Texas one to.
I dont think it is too far gone. I think the 2019-2020 package killed the cookie cutter tracks in general and we still have that memory fresh in our minds. Do we reconfigure back to the popular version? Maybe. Problem with this is it will be fresh pavement and still be a boring race anyways for the next 5 years. I say fix the car first. Figure out tire compound that degrades over the run safely, then add some horsepower to the car and take away more downforce. Try that for the cookie cutters. If it doesnt work, then reconfigure turns 1 and 2 only, but keep the rest of the track.
The killing blow was Texas’ repave. It killed the driving lines and it led to loads of runaway victories. Short of the great facilities, what’s a good thing about the track?
Sad that they repaved Texas motor speedway because that’s my hometown track and now they remove the race there so I hope they can remake it if they can so they can go back to two
As for someone that just moved to texas and a NASCAR fan, i want this track to be good again, not only for personal reasons but if you take in acount distances, texas motorspeedway is the closet to any texan that does not want to do a 7 hour + trip to another oval
@@pgtrep7700 Yes. If IndyCar can put on good races at Texas, why can't NASCAR? I'm telling you, the time Texas is going to be a good track for NASCAR is going to be sooner than we all might think. Speaking of the IndyCar vs. NASCAR debate, why has IndyCar able to put on good racing there while NASCAR fans aren't looking forward to their Texas race. I just don't see a huge difference at the track performance wise between the two racing series, other than the horsepower.
I would much rather have the track renovated and reconfigured, pre-2017, myself..... and I can remember being upset myself, back in 04 when the Texas was getting two races, but I would argue if it can produce good racing like it once did, I would argue that Texas would be deserving of the two races that it once had. Not just for NASCAR, but IndyCar too
I'd argue that Texas Motor Speedway is already slowly but surely becoming good again. Here are a few reasons why. 1. The Next Gen car. The performance of the Next Gen car on the intermediates has been outstanding to say the least. And while the Next Gen had it's issues at Texas last year, especially during the fall race, they are nowhere near as bad as it's mediocre performance at short tracks and some of the road courses. 2. The track surface. Yes, I know Texas has the worst track surface out of all the NASCAR and SMI tracks, and I know you all don't want to admit it, but Texas was repaved in 2017, which means it has been over five years since Texas was repaved. The surface is slowly showing signs of aging. And the aging of the surface will result in good racing at Texas again. And that might happen sooner than we might think, regardless of whether or not the track undergoes improvements like it's rumored to have been for the past year. To put that into perspective, races at the old Atlanta Motor Speedway had been boring from about 2012, when the track had been repaved, through about 2019, when that track's surface began to show aging. That resulted in two years of great racing at Atlanta in 2020 and 2021, before Atlanta was converted into a superspeedway. And Kentucky Speedway, the track that had a similar repave Texas had before Texas got repaved, and was thought of by NASCAR fans as the worst track on the NASCAR schedule from 2013 through 2018, had it's final two races in 2019 and 2020 having great racing and great finishes, mainly because the track surface was beginning to age. And while Texas might not be the best this year, it will definitely become more noticable in 2024 and 2025, regardless of what happens to the track. 3. The Upping of the Horsepower. At the same time Texas Motor Speedway was being repaved, NASCAR was in the process of decreasing the horsepower. The lowering of the horsepower resulted in a lot of terrible NASCAR races during this time, especially during the 550 HP package era. It was especially horrible on most of the intermediates, and the lowering of the HP, combined with the new track surface, made the racing at Texas even worse than it already seemed. The Fall 2019 Texas race is bad Texas at it's absolute worst. However, in 2022, NASCAR increased the horsepower to 670 HP, and that brought good racing back at the intermediates. 4. IndyCar races the past two years. The past two IndyCar races held at Texas Motor Speedway were great races. The 2022 race even had a photo finish. If IndyCar can put on great racing at Texas, so would NASCAR.
How I personally would improve the track if given the opportunity: 1. Increase the banking 2. Maybe make the frontstretch or backstretch curved (like Chicagoland) You guys have any other suggestions?
@JonathanPlayz Yes! Absolutely you should go. Went to my 1st race last year, at Homestead. It's wild. Mind-blowing speed. You NEED ear protection, and bring a cooler with drinks and snacks.
There are some ways that Texas could be redeemed, like a night race witch could help tv ratings and also like banking and a new figuration or get back the old and fix the tire problems. If they don’t fix the problems then move the race out of the playoffs. Playoff drivers getting DNF’s won’t help.
Any problems the Next Gen car has at Texas Motor Speedway are nowhere near as bad as the bad racing at short tracks and some of the road courses from this car. May I remind you that this is the same car that gave us good racing at Charlotte, Kansas, Michigan, Pocono, old Auto Club and Las Vegas?
I'll be attending Texas Motor Speedway for the 3rd time on the 14th of this month (April) for the Autotrader Echo Park 400. This will be my first time seeing the nex gen cars live. I can't wait
Perhaps when they reconfigure Texas again, hopefully they can do so to match or at least be similar to pre-22 Atlanta. I know a lot of drivers and fans miss that track as it was; if they can make the racing half as good as old Atlanta, I think most people would be satisfied.
Texas will be good again, regardless of what happens to the track. I thought last year's races were good. Plus, if IndyCar can put on great racing at Texas, why can't NASCAR?
I thought 2001-2006 Texas was terrible 2004 spring race was an outlier but it didn't look good to start. Once 2007 came around it looked like the grooves where actually coming in 2007-2016 was great I still liked the idea of making the corners wider but changing the banking was always going to be risky. If only when they repaved Texas in 2002 they could've made the corners wider along with it.
NASCAR / SMI's potential solution to fixing Texas Motor Speedway is probably doing nothing to the track, changing the date to April, and in the process killing the Indycar race which was actually fantastic 2 years in a row.
I say return Texas to its pre 2017 form and just add 50 miles to the race to make it a more crown Jewel race but leave it at one race per year with Cota as the second Texas race
We need a track in Columbus Ohio. NASCAR needs to stop going to thr same tracks multiple times a year and spread out some. I would love to go to a half mile race in Columbus every year. I just went to Bristol and it was amazing!
I'm going to my first ever NASCAR race un April and keep seeing videos about how this track isn't what it once was. That being said will me and my wife still enjoy it being our first ever race?
I've been to NHRA Drag Racing, Monster Jam, and all things motor sports. Execpt for NASCAR, living a few hours from this track I really want to attand a race one day. For anyone whos been, is it worth going to?
Make Texas a 3 mile version of Atlanta., before the ‘ dogleg ‘. 5° of banking on backstretch. 10° on the frontstretch 15 - 25° for the turns. Maximum Chaos
Take one weekend off atlanta , give it to charlotte and take the roval out.. make tekas an 1.5 plate track We would have two 1.5 SS races as we have now but in 2 different facilities, and 2 races at charlotte…
I love this track it's been having great racing to me the last five years and if y'all don't like because of the single file racing watch the other tracks closer they all race that that way to and plus the all star race at Texas Motor Speedway was way better then the All star race at north wilksboro by far no passing hardly and at wilks and no action hardly to it was a terrible all star race at wilksboro I get it's historic but was a terrible a race at wilksboro and wilksboro was not the same like it was in the 90s
Do you think Texas Motor Speedway can be redeemed?

A. increase the banking
or
B. remake it into an superspeedway

imagine they make texas a variable banked flat track with a curved backstretch
The killing blow was Texas’ repave. It killed the driving lines and it led to loads of runaway victories. Short of the great facilities, what’s a good thing about the track?
Agreed.
A good thing about the track is, slowly but surely, the worn out surface.
Sad that they repaved Texas motor speedway because that’s my hometown track and now they remove the race there so I hope they can remake it if they can so they can go back to two
Texas feels like Charlotte motor speedway from wallmart lol
As for someone that just moved to texas and a NASCAR fan, i want this track to be good again, not only for personal reasons but if you take in acount distances, texas motorspeedway is the closet to any texan that does not want to do a 7 hour + trip to another oval
I live in Texas and it's still 4.5 hours for me... lol
@@Dakota24Fan better than 8 🤷♂️
And everything is far in texas 😑
In my opinion, it already has.
@@danielfoster3642 cus of indy ?
@@pgtrep7700 Yes. If IndyCar can put on good races at Texas, why can't NASCAR? I'm telling you, the time Texas is going to be a good track for NASCAR is going to be sooner than we all might think. Speaking of the IndyCar vs. NASCAR debate, why has IndyCar able to put on good racing there while NASCAR fans aren't looking forward to their Texas race. I just don't see a huge difference at the track performance wise between the two racing series, other than the horsepower.
Man i used to love texas, the racing used to be so good especially the battles between brad and jimmie in the 2010s
Make it an 2 mile track more better imo
How I personally would improve the track if given the opportunity:
1. Increase the banking
2. Maybe make the frontstretch or backstretch curved (like Chicagoland)
You guys have any other suggestions?
What would be interesting is a curved frontstretch that isn't banked...
Put it back the way it was, and let it age.
Perfect place for a nice Top Golf establishment
Its a crime we have a good car for 1.5 mile racing but cant add Chicagoland speedway a track that put on good racing that’s underrated
Personally I think Texas before the repave was even better then Atlanta.
Atlanta got really bad after it got too old.
God i swear more horsepower fixes so many of NASCARs problems
Those photo finishes are more cause the gen4 was amazing vs the track.
The late 00’s was good
I don't get the hate for Texas. I like that track.
Just go back to the original configuration or make it a Auto Club clone and the racing might be good.
Yeah because I liked the idea of expanding both corners but not changing the banking.
Going to the race this weekend. I'm new to the Nascar scene. Got into it last year from going to a live race. Really enjoyed it
Should I go? I watched nascar for years but never went the track is like 20 minutes away
@@JonathanPlayz I had a blast when I went. I think it's worth it.
@JonathanPlayz Yes! Absolutely you should go. Went to my 1st race last year, at Homestead. It's wild. Mind-blowing speed. You NEED ear protection, and bring a cooler with drinks and snacks.
IndyCar doesn’t have drainage problems with rain the track probably doesn’t get reconfigured.
There are some ways that Texas could be redeemed, like a night race witch could help tv ratings and also like banking and a new figuration or get back the old and fix the tire problems. If they don’t fix the problems then move the race out of the playoffs. Playoff drivers getting DNF’s won’t help.
The 500 mile events hurt the entertainment value of Texas. The races were soul crushing long
its why i'm excited about the 400, its worked most everywhere else
It's not the track, it's the car.
Texas should be converted to a 2.5 mile track lol we need more plate tracks.
I have no idea how you reconfigure Texas to a 2.5 mile, but if they turn Texas into a plate track then they need to drop an Atlanta date...
Texas was only good in the first couple of races, then became boring
New Texas awesome for indycar
TexASS sucks!! Bring back Chicagoland!!!
I'll be attending Texas Motor Speedway for the 3rd time on the 14th of this month (April) for the Autotrader Echo Park 400. This will be my first time seeing the nex gen cars live. I can't wait
Can't wait to see the most boring race in history in person this weekend
I don't think it'll be as boring as the 2019 races. The Next Gen car has really thrived at the intermediates.
I think if they fix the tire issues from last year it could be a good race as is🤷🏽♂️
Not right Now. But hopefully when it’s sold off for Scrap and replaced with the Cotton Bowl.
Went there from 2001-2010 I’m sorry it has never been good. There’s been decent finishes and that’s it the racing has always been Ass
Perhaps when they reconfigure Texas again, hopefully they can do so to match or at least be similar to pre-22 Atlanta. I know a lot of drivers and fans miss that track as it was; if they can make the racing half as good as old Atlanta, I think most people would be satisfied.
Yes it was good but it sucks now. Until they reconfigure it back to what it was, the track shouldn't be on the NASCAR schedule!
Texas will be good again, regardless of what happens to the track. I thought last year's races were good. Plus, if IndyCar can put on great racing at Texas, why can't NASCAR?
Is it worth driving 4 hours for the ecomotive 400 this Sunday?
I thought 2001-2006 Texas was terrible 2004 spring race was an outlier but it didn't look good to start. Once 2007 came around it looked like the grooves where actually coming in 2007-2016 was great I still liked the idea of making the corners wider but changing the banking was always going to be risky. If only when they repaved Texas in 2002 they could've made the corners wider along with it.
was the third clip from 2010 when Knaus kidnapped Jeff Gordons crew?
The Gen 4s were the best racing cars. I’ll die on that hill.
NASCAR / SMI's potential solution to fixing Texas Motor Speedway is probably doing nothing to the track, changing the date to April, and in the process killing the Indycar race which was actually fantastic 2 years in a row.
It is so hot there in the playoffs. I’m so glad they moved it to April.
I say return Texas to its pre 2017 form and just add 50 miles to the race to make it a more crown Jewel race but leave it at one race per year with Cota as the second Texas race
All im saying is if we had gone back in time and totally renovated the Texas World speedway things would be very different
We need a track in Columbus Ohio. NASCAR needs to stop going to thr same tracks multiple times a year and spread out some. I would love to go to a half mile race in Columbus every year. I just went to Bristol and it was amazing!
I think Texas should take the place of Bristol Dirt. The pavement racing sucks there anyway, might as well see if dirt is any good there.
I miss my old texas motor speedway race track.
I'm going to my first ever NASCAR race un April and keep seeing videos about how this track isn't what it once was. That being said will me and my wife still enjoy it being our first ever race?
As a jimmie fan i always loved texas
It was the HP, night races, and most of all, ride the fence!!
Without a doubt the best Texas race was the season 6 Decs finale.
Texas used to be one of my favorites and they ruined it, so I fully agree
The track surface is showing it's age. The racing will be good again.
I've been to NHRA Drag Racing, Monster Jam, and all things motor sports. Execpt for NASCAR, living a few hours from this track I really want to attand a race one day. For anyone whos been, is it worth going to?
Just put the banking back in turn 1 and 2. It's not that complicated but the track owners are in complete denial.
Last year's TexAss Fall race was the most embarrassing race I've ever seen
Despite the tire issues, I still enjoyed the racing action that happened. Plus, Tyler Reddick, my 5th favorite driver, won. So that was a plus.
@kjproductions9050 Not only the tire issues, but it also rained at the track
@@cito1101 I honestly don't remember that
@@cito1101 Yes, the Fall 2022 race had it's issues, but I thought it was still a good race.
Texas shouldve gotten the Atlanta treatment. Could use a superspeedway style race far away from the other ones
Make Texas a 3 mile version of Atlanta., before the ‘ dogleg ‘. 5° of banking on backstretch. 10° on the frontstretch 15 - 25° for the turns. Maximum Chaos
i fuck with the p5 music in the background
Take one weekend off atlanta , give it to charlotte and take the roval out.. make tekas an 1.5 plate track
We would have two 1.5 SS races as we have now but in 2 different facilities, and 2 races at charlotte…
Yay new video
Texas Motor Speedway cannot be redeemed on the NASCAR schedule. Just sell it to Penske.
Why can't we just let the surface wear out? Give it a year or two, and we'll get great racing back at Texas again for NASCAR racing.
@@danielfoster3642 Texas Motor Speedway has always sucked for NASCAR.
Texas today is better than North Wilkesboro ever was. I will die on that hill. Especially after that terrible All Star race.
People only liked North Wilkesboro because of Nostalgia
