I am installing these to finished walls that have an aluminum corner bead over the drywall. This has made the installation more challenging that what is shown in the video. In order to cut through the aluminum I tried using a hack saw. That works ok, but I found that a dremmel drill with one of those diamond disc bits works very well for this.
I didn't lay two 1/4" drywall. Used what I had which was 1/2". First side cut back side every 1". Not great. So Second side cut every 1 1/2", worked better. Marked finished side middle of 1 1/2" and used nail to dent for drywall screw start. No slipping. Forced drywall in separated areas at the 1 1/2" marks. Used knife and fingers and really pushed and loaded up. Someone suggested wetting, maybe very light on finished side. Don't think you need it, but could be wrong.
@@ArchwaysAndCeilings we'll instance I don't have a doorframe. I have a hallway with an opening at the end. The opening is from the floor to the ceiling and one side of the opening where the arch would go is open to the other room and the other side is just all wall. Hard to explain but I don't see anything on your website about what to do in the situation. So it can be easy to mess up. Also of ones measurements aren't correct.
+Archways & Ceilings if you were to change all to arches in your house would this be the way to do it or would you hire someone to do it the traditional way. Im talking about the cost of material not labor.
Removing window to leave access to a new room. I removed the corner bead with the new oscillator tool. On the inside located edge of bead and cut along its edge all the way through to the 2x6. Cut inside edge nails or removed now exposed screws. Removed this drywall. Locate other edge with magnet nail finder and cut with box cutter a straight line and only through mud and drywall tape. Removed just the drywall mud using theOscillator tool, worked great! Cut around nails to 2x6 or removed exposed screws. With shaper tool evened the drywall with stud and mudded the cut out nail holes..
+Kris Kersch I have now coverd the archway with 1/2 drywall. At 1 1/2 intervals on back paper side cut straight line with box cutter. Then on the finished paper side marked with 1 inch margin on both sides to say out of the way of the installtaion of the bull nose and to prevent drywall from splitting. And in the middle 3/4 inches of the 1 1/2 cuts to insure the screws weren't in a gap.. Had my wife hold the bottom next to the stud and center. I screwed first in center of over head beam. Then worked my way down toward the stud.
This is not the kit for that. It has a split cut in it.You would want the piece to be solid. We make arched door jambs. Call 877-303-2263 or contact us through www.archwaysandceilings.com Thanks.
2 things that would help: 1. Use 1/4" Flexible drywall (Google it or visit your local drywall supplier). 2. Wet the back. Let us know if that helps you! Generally residential framed homes are framed with wood but some homes are framed with metal studs. If your home is framed with metal studs just be sure to screw in the arch instead of nailing it in.

Most corners have a corner bead (look it up). You are not going to cut through it with a knife. You have to remove the corner bead (rip it out) and when finishing the job, to do it right you will put up new flex vinyl corner bead. I like the product, but this video deceptive.

Great tip on the Dremmel, Amanda Peterson, thanks!
That installer has one steady hand for cutting! How many years of practice did that take? I need a straight edge every time.
THIS IS AMAZING! So excited to use this... great instructional video, guys!
Thank you
I am so excited I found this. We are going to give this a try. Thanks for the great UA-cam video.
This is exactly what I need!! Thanks for the demo.
Please show me how to mud and paint to finish the archway
ua-cam.com/video/2eUxz_or2Qs/v-deo.html Do your own homework.
Of course, you can use customize it as much as you need.
No corner bead? Haha looks easy , they must have framed that opening too
I watched the video and got everything I needed. Also I cut the wood pieces. When I opened my drywall. I saw metal frame all over 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
you just need different fasteners. Google wood to metal fasteners.
Ah, I love it, so buying this!

Of course that's what we are here for. We are available by phone 8am to 5pm central time, or email us anytime. Contact info @ archkit.com
Was hoping you could do this without messing up the existing drywall. What if you mess up? Now your walls are shot.
How can you mess it up? Confused. Add new drywall and drywall the studs and archway. Pretty simple and straight forward.

What if I want a more U shaped arch. How do i use this and still achieve that look
You would use a different style arch kit. See more styles of arches here www.archwaysandceilings.com/collections/archway-kits
if I got a wide opening and wont to do the Spanish style, you thing I can use 3 2x4's?
If I have trouble installing this, do you supply arch support?
Lol. A missed joke.

What if you want to go from rounded to square
Remove drywall from the arch, remove arch and then re drywall the opening.
Archways & Ceilings good idea
Can this be used on exterior window seals? Or on exterior trim to make your garage door appear arched? Thanks.
