  • The San Francisco Warriors drafted Charles Johnson in the 6th round of the 1971 NBA draft. The 6-foot-0, 170-pound point guard played with the Warriors for five seasons and part of a sixth until he was waived in early January 1978. Johnson was a member of the 1974-75 Warriors NBA championship team.

In 1974-75, the Golden State Warriors won the NBA championship and they did it playing at least 10 players a night and Charles Johnson was an important piece to their excellent chemistry."C.J." came off the bench and provided excellent shooting and instant offense to the championship team. The Warriors were not expected to win the chip that year but it was players like C.J. that made it possible.
C.J. had a beautiful jumper and could hit it going to his left or his right equally well. His pull up jumper was quick and he was equally adept at catching and shooting the ball. At only 6', C.J. needed to get up on his jumper and he did. His shooting form was outstanding and he had a high release point on his jumper which he needed to get his shot off against taller defenders. Although he did most of his damage with his excellent jump shot, C.J. could also drive past opponents from the triple threat or off the dribble within outstanding ball handling skill. C.J. had the ability to lead the break or fill a lane and finish at the rim or pull up for his patented jumper. That championship year was his best year as a pro and he played a career high 27 and half minutes a game. Although C.J. scored only about 10 points a game, he was a key contributor to the Dubs title run and he could get hot. Coach Al Attles knew he could count on C.J. for instant offense off the bench and CJ could pull up on anybody. C.J. thrived in the Warrior's team first, fast offense, and the sight of him pulling up in the half court or fast break was good news for Warriors fans. Although C.J. wasn't a big time scorer, he could get it going and his contribution to that Warrior championship run was invaluable.

One of the most underrated guards of the 70’s. Huge contributor to both the Warriors and Bullets title teams. Elvin Hayes himself would later credit Johnson as the missing piece that fully propelled the Bullets to their ring.
