      In Ontario, Doug Ford forced universities and colleges to lower tuition for Canadians and told those institutions to use international students to balance their budgets. Unless Ontario raises funding back up to normal levels or lets institutions manage their own budgets and raise tuition to match inflation, then there’s going to be a lot of bankruptcies in the future.

    This is a clear tell sign that post-secondary education is only attractive in Canada, because of the possibility of working or becoming a permanent resident. Once word got out that there could be changes and restrictions, students immediately became uninterested.

    Remove the license for international students to work. Their stay in Canada will depend on their entry visa. For example, you have visitor visa, your privileges in Canada is based on term limit of visitation and cannot be change to any status like refugee or family reunification.

      Why paying such a huge money for education in Canada? You will get high quality education at the IIMs and IITs in India. Moreover, India is the fast growing and opportunities are more unlike in Canada. Indian students will realize this.

    Put a hold on any new international student applications for 5 years and then re-evaluate. It's good for all parties involved both the students and the Canadians.

      the cost of university tuition has increased 13 times since 1980. that is ridiculous.
      while the minimum wage has only increased 3-4 times
      rents have increased 8 times
      cost of housing has increased 9 times

      Well...depending on the nationality and where they're from, if they only make like $2 USD/day, then yeah -- it's REALLY expensive to send your kid to a foreign country in the HOPES that they will have a better future than they have. (because that's what we pay them)

      As an int student, it's pretty insane. I'm one of the luckier ppl because my family is relatively well off so I'm not what the family is relying on but of course if you're spending 100k you do need a return of investment.
      At the end of the day we are trying to make a better life for ourselves and our family. Worst part is that we only have a couple of years, 5 at most, to succeed so we all desperate.

      Good luck buddy. My son’s classmates from 2023 Masters of Engineering are still looking for jobs whereas he almost have 2 years experience now. We need to get the locals jobs first so I’m in for education freeze for foreign students

    International students are probably willing to pay that much because graduating from a Canadian university is a pathway for them to immigrate to what they still perceive as a great country. But sooner or later, the information that Canada has been turned into a basket case will filter back to their home countries.

      Yeah, indian here, a close friend of mine tried to do her bachelor's in Canada and told me to go there and be with her to do my master's for a very long time. This was from 2019-2022. Something felt off all this time, so I didn't consider Canada at all. And now, we're seeing the results 🫠

      Again a reminder..... international students are not getting value for money spent. Even after spending so much, most of them end up in low paying jobs...and even with policy changes...the realisation of getting a PR is shattered. The whole system is ambiguous.

    Perhaps instead of taking foreign students, Universities can open overseas branches in countries where the students typically come from and periodically fly Canadian teaching staff over to teach them? This way the students won't have to come to physically come to Canada yet the University would still be collecting tuition from them.

    Isn't this CLEAR EVIDENCE that a significant number of international students only come for work and immigration and not for education? I'm not saying they are doing anything wrong; people will do whatever based on the incentives available to them. Work and an eventual Canadian passport are just too good a deal to pass up for many international students.

    My alma mater has already been move aggressively asking for donations for students. The reality is only 3 options either governments make up the difference in cost, or International students make up the difference in cost, or the tutions of domestic students will start to increase to that of USA, in which they pay 3x the amount we pay here currently.

      How about cutting the bloat at these universities.
      I'm pretty sure putting these courses online would eliminate a huge amount of bloat. For it costs almost nothing to get such an education.
      Heck with AI advancing, we will have AI teaching and doing a better job at it for pennies on the dollar.

      @@mtrest4 Part of the your go for higher education is that you learn from people with experience in the field. AI can't substitute people with real life experience.
      Kids were learning online for a couple years and they are severely undeveloped with it comes to social dynamics in the workforce.

    A lot of Canadian students cannot get into college because they are FULL of international students. Imagine if your local high school was unable to take your kids in for this fall term, and the reason they gave you was because they were 'FULL OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' ?? You would flip out if that were to happen.

The companies stopped training in 80-90's when they figured out that for 10% more salary thsn a beginner they can get an already trained person. This tactics started to bite back very fast.     Only if our immigration policy is strict enough to protect our citizens. International students should not be allowed to work. They should not be allowed to stay after graduation. If they want to migrate to Canada, they should apply from their home country. No short cut or priority given to them!

    Besides higher English requirements, Canada 🇨🇦 also needs to check for national security risks.
    - Many Chinese students don't come to Canada to study,
    but to grab Canadian intellectual properties and

    Yea maybe stop increasing the salaries of their employees year on year by high digits exceeding inflation. How is it that some non research based tenured prof is making more than high-volume lawyers or physicians when all the prof does is lecture a day a week and have TAs as slave labour.

    I was lucky enough to complete my education before The Great Dumbening. Then, the university system was still greatly beneficial to Canada and Canadians. Now it largely serves as a giant mechanism for political indoctrination and miseducation.
    So to the extent that this amounts to de-funding, it pains me to say that I am glad.

    I would require all educational institutions to provide housing for international student (at least 50%). If they have only 16 000 beds for international student combined - the cap would be 32 000 international students.

    So you have a model in which the quality of your higher ed is subsidized by international students. Now remove the international students and bring the quality down so the domestic students will have a higher chance at a lower quality education.

    So these international students have to take out 10s of thousands in loans, can’t get a job, most likely will move back home because the degree won’t grant them a job suitable for the debt they accumulated. But the school gets paid and loans most likely go default when the student leaves for home…. A scenario based on reality

    How does thr govt and institutions expect international students to pay as high as 56,000 per year and not get permanent residency? Locals cant afford this fee and they are on student loans ..56K per year is an investment and dont forget that Canada advertised that international students are the most adjusted to Canadian life!

    And homegrown Canadian students have been getting the short end of the post-educational system for years - in a large part so Canadian universities can attract and pay for ‘big name’ academics who demand big salaries. It’s all about money and prestige and our students are at the bottom of that food chain. It’s a national disgrace.

    As an International student, though I moved to Canada a decade ago initially to look for a deeper meaning in life, I still kinda felt being scammed by the Government for spending a huge sums of tuition to end up with a useless diploma which leads to unemployment . I have contributed soooo much 😮for Canadian economy for the past 11 years( actually my parents paid everything), but still neither me nor my family have received any benefits from this country so far. I don’t even have a family doctor, and my family don’t even want to come here so it’s just me alone! Still, I remind myself everyday that I ‘m not here to have a comfortable life , but to grow and to learn❤. I’m happy to be a volunteer here just to help out , dispute being perceived poorly by the media and society as if I ‘m a communist spy from China coming here just to rape everyone and to spread disease. No one trusts me but I put my trust in GOD. I know GOD is watching ✝️. I think finding god is the best outcome possible for me from immigrating to Canada.

    These Colleges and Universities (like governments) need to streamline their operations in order to reduce costs.
    My daughter is in her second year of College and the amount of waste and bureaucracy that exists now, is far worse than what it was when I went to College in the 90's.|
