  • Michigan Football is being criminally underrated entering the 2024 college football season. They are being underestimated because they lost 60% of their 2023 production and Jim Harbaugh and most of Michigan's 2023 staff are off to the NFL. Sherrone Moore takes over as the Michigan Wolverines' head coach and has plenty of work cut out for him. However, the elite developmental and strength-focused program that Harbaugh built for him will make the head coaching job easier, along with Donovan Edwards, Colston Loveland, Myles Hinton, Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, and Will Johnson returning to play in 2024. Using college football history and Michigan's depth chart, I will show you why it would be a mistake to bet this team to hit the under on their win total. We talk about all of this and more in this episode of College Football with Sam. Make sure to comment so I can interact with you and answer any questions you have!

    Everyone acts like Coach Moore is “Unproven” - the man has already proven he can beat TTDS, the staff is proven, our 2 deep players had more playing time in 2023 than some of the other elite starters on other teams being shown respect. Another year of Michigan vs Everybody - BET! Go Blue 〽️

      What? Just because YOU proclaim he has proven himself? How UTTERL myopic. Its like you are CHUGGING the Koolaide! Moore has NEVER been a colligate head coach. At the collegiate level, he has two prior schools that he coached for. He coached on GAMEDAY last season. Harbaugh was NOT prevented from being on campus coaching Sunday-Friday. In otherwords Moore called the games and THAT is NOT the same thing as being a HC. It is STUNNING that you cant seem to see that.
      At ANY other program, FORGET that Moore had to hire an ENTIRE staff... set that aside for a second... Had Harbaugh stayed, replacing 40+ starters and upperclassman, it was STILL going to be a step back just on the number of starters and UPPERCLASSMEN who provide LEADERSHIP. Oh, and by the way Moore ISNT HARBAUGH...
      At ANY other program if that data were provided YOU would say NO ONE can sustain that kind of loss of personnel, entirely new coaching staff, an OL with 0 starts collectively and a new QB with 0 starts that universally spells TROUBLE... if these issues were at ANY OTHER SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY you would MOCK fans that say what you CLOWNS are saying...
      You all are pontificating BS like you think you're going to win back to back titles...How about you worry more about getting out of September... Fresno State was a 9 win team last year and returns 14 starters from that team. You drop that one and a 1 win September is staring you in the face.

    The thing most people don't recognize is that Michigan was the deepest team in the country last season. The wolverines rotated players constantly, so even though many "starters" are gone, there are plenty of guys with experience. Not to mention we still have a blue chip ratio higher than 50%. Every year people doubt Michigan. The blind hate is the norm, as well as them being wrong.

    • @foxbodyblues6709
      @foxbodyblues6709 12 днів тому +5

      For the 50th time:
      Substituting was easy when they were subbing in one or two guys at a time, like on the OL.
      This is replacing all 6 at once, including a 1st team All American.
      Without the threat of a legit (JJ) pass game, this brand new OL will be MUCH easier to defend.
      Teams won’t have to defend them straight up.
      This exact thing affected Ohio St in the reverse direction. The lack of a consistent run game meant teams didn’t have to defend them straight up. It becomes a self feeding loop.
      Much like UM, everybody good came back, and now there is an elite OC calling plays.

    • @collegefootballwithsam
      @collegefootballwithsam  12 днів тому +13

      I presume oddsmakers think that Michigan will lose to Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State and potentially drop a game to USC, Washington, or someone else. I still, respectfully, disagree with that. Yes, Michigan has a first year HC and first-year QB, but they return more than enough on defense and good enough offensive role players where they have a better chance of beating one of those Top 4 teams than losing to all of them.

    • @rkwittem
      @rkwittem 12 днів тому +4

      @@collegefootballwithsam that’s not how the oddsmakers think. They have to set the line against what the public will bet on and is within the realm of possibility. I’m a not one of those people who treat them as if they always “know something we don’t” but the odds are set to attract bettors and putting Michgian at 8-9 wins when the average Joe knows they got gutted by the NFL and they play a bunch of brand name big-time programs is easy money. Look at how they set lines in the NFL for popular teams, it’s really no different because they attract casual bets.
      As for Mixhgian this year, I do not have them at the elite level because of that talent exodus and the coach drop off. I don’t think Sherrone Moore is in Harbaugh’s ballpark and I don’t expect him to be Michgian’s David Shaw, either. Enjoy your work, regardless!

    Sam, you are 100% right. Michigan is still elite. These players filling in have been in the system for years now. Sherrone more is a "new HC" but he's not new to the program. He's not new to developing an OL. He's not new to coaching this program to wins against PSU and OSU as the Head Coach. Michigan's offense might be slow coming out of the gate but they're going to have the best or second best defense the country anchoring them down to keep every game winnable. Mason Graham was a 3 star, Blake Corum was a 3 star, and so was Roman Wilson. Two of those guys are already in the NFL , and Mason is projected to go first round.

These kids no matter what team are going to be driven into the ground with exhaustion and injuries. Can you be 2 deep in starting talent and maybe even 3 deep at critical positions ? I really feel we have the capacity to at least be 11 and one past 10 and two was unacceptable the theme in the beauty about the playoffs now you don’t necessarily have to be undefeated so I think with an 11 and one or two still gets in I want to win the big 10 I’m old-school Bo schembecler mindset when the big 10 that’s where my mind is at and I think we still have a chance to win the Big Ten even with an 11 and one record going into that game anything that is a little difficult but I will be just fine take one game at a time bring on whoever it is that we play have no fear go defend our championship and win it again go blue

  • @1876Oregon
    @1876Oregon 10 днів тому

    Come on man! We’ve seen this same story before with elite teams being gutted, and the only reason some of them didn’t lose bad the next year is because they recruited well, and the staff was returning. In both cases, Michigan fails with those two things. When a team is gutted, you need top5 to top10 recruiting for 1 to 2yrs before that gutting, so the sophomores and juniors are elite. The unfortunate fact is Michigans recruiting is sub par, and they only reached this elite level for one year by building this for three straight years, and then they peaked.
    And I didn’t want to bring this up, but that was three years of knowing the calls for every challenging team they played in conference. And it doesn’t take an elite team to play elite when they’re in the right defense, every call. They don’t have that advantage of cheating anymore either.
    But back to the main three issues, and the last one is coach retention. The fact is Michigan was gutted, and I believe they can try to hold it together when they lose. But with a new coach with no actual experience that isn’t substitute teaching for one day a week, 6 times…if they lose three games, and they get blasted by Texas and Oregon. They can spiral since we all know what the media will be saying. And that best case. If they get blown out by Texas, and then follow it up with a typical new coach loss that every new coach has, they’ll have two losses before they even play Oregon or OSU.
    I think that’s the most rational take as to what will happen. Either 3 losses, and one is a blow out. Or the other which is a minimum of 4 losses, and the media is barreling down on their new HC, and they know it’s not remotely the same program that needed 3yrs to build with a different staff. And there’s a chance that they fall off a cliff if the have a couple key injuries…like at RB, and the offensive line. And maybe a couple spots on defense. If they have any major attrition, they could go 6-6 or 7-5 really easily.

      @@jefflampas7759 LOL. Quit being naïve!
      I know that Connor Stallions attended an Oregon Duck game when he thought Michigan might face them in the playoffs, and I know he helped Michigan get the calls for every team that Michigan needed an advantage against. There is actual footage of stallions on the sidelines, and when Ohio state changes their call, he makes the hand signal change, and so does the coaches and the players. They were all in on it, and they all knew that he had their hand signals!
      Harbaugh couldn’t beat Ohio State, and he had to reduce his pay because he was about to get fired, which is why Stallions was so welcomed with the cheating scheme. Without him cheating, Harbaugh wouldn’t have been around in 2023 to win a national title. Thats how big of a deal it was.
