The old saying - give them an inch, they'll take a mile will ring overwhelmingly loud with something like this.
I gotta side with Apple here...once the privacy blind is raised a little, they will find a way to remove it entirely at some point in the name of "citizen safety"
MooseRocket I agree; however, in this case you have to think about how this will benefit killers or illegal activity. Millions of people have iPhones. This case will only alert people with malicious intent that they can hide their activity if they just get an iPhone.
*As an Android user, I respect Apple's security*
@Draggy654 because android users use actual intelligence to describe how their phones are just better....
meanwhile most apple users excuse is always
"Iphones are popular" or "you are too poor to buy iphone" and sometimes you just have to admire that tim cook is doing something good
@Draggy654 Wtf lmao so your calling me a racist? I've never said all iphone users are like that, I said that most apple users are like that and you cant deny that... if apple wasn't popular most people would have budget phones because they are cheaper and worth the money... im pretty sure there are good reason to buy an iphone for some people but most iphone users dont even know the model they use... apple is only a logo at this point
@Alejandro Urbina He was basically calling all android people non reasonable people... i told him that most android users know what phone and specs they are using... meanwhile most iphone users are the most unreasonable people... then he got mad and called me a racist...

It can be broken into though. I feel like this is just marketing.
@@May16Joe It can but they don't build in a method to do so. Nothing is 100% secure but building in backdoors means that the phone is 0% secure
If Apple allows phones to be unlocked, what is the meaning of privacy?

Unless a judge tells you otherwise.
While keeping in mind that one is innocent until proven guilty. IF someone is found guilty of a felony. I believe they should be totally revoked of their privacy. Privacy is a human right but so is freedom and the pursuit of happiness and those are taken as soon as one goes to prison. They gave up those rights when they committed a felony.

It should never change and I for one am very happy Apple has security at its root.
and they achieved their objective. Look like they care about privacy. But it's really true?
I think Apple is doing a reasonable thing here.
It's almost always the case that the ones who are in the situation see it differently. Would be weird if it wasn't. But that's no reason to suddenly change the reasonable stance you thoroughly established before. You'd be hurting millions of people for this.
Apple for the win stop finding excuses for mass espionage
When I hear about privacy in the same sentence with a phone, pc (a smartphone is a pc), my levels of mad goes up the roof. Everyone who deals with programming, coding etc. knows that as long you have 1 and 0 language on a device, cracking it up is about skill, knowledge, information. This is pure marketing and you're doing it standing on corpses.
There’s no way you can have a backdoor only unlockable by the government
The problem is that you can’t trust law enforcement. They’ll use it for good one day and then the next, they’ll do whatever they want.
How the fuck can I break into an iPhone with in 40min but the CIA needs apples help?
I do think that camera holder could be a game changer for some, but that flip button the turns the camera around needs to be motorized and you're done! What a great idea either way
If Apple gave the government a back door into the iPhone, who’s to say it won’t be used again for something other than what it was intended for then the government can do the one thing Apple has banked on for years, privacy. Apple should find a way to give the government the info without compromising their company
This is not the first time apple decline to open a phone...
G Stickem Rod that’s the point lol, he covered that point haha
@@charleskim6711 cool, I didnt watch the whole thing because this already happen
Without a doubt your best and most important upload to date. My question is: does Apple have the capabilities to unlock this phone? Apple had stated there is not a "backdoor" code that allows them or anyone to access contents on an encrypted phone.
Of course they can open it.
That's not how encryption works. If you break it, you've broken the encryption for every single one, and it needs a security patch. I recommend John Oliver's segment, his team did a great job on their research.
There’s no back door into iOS that currently exists, if Apple creates this firmware that puts every single iPhone that can support that firmware in danger. People like politicians, celebrities, billionaires, the normal joe. The security of millions on millions on millions of iPhones security would be trash
Simpliest sollutions are always the best ... fingerprint duplication and face unlock tricks
I have become an Apple only user because of their Security principles. Not that I'm doing anything wrong but I appreciate my privacy in this day and age where its simply almost nonexistent. If they give a backdoor I would most likely venture back to Samsung as I jumped back and forth all the way up to the Note 4 every year.
The Mac's fans are kept on low for "a better user experience" (less noise). As a result, the chips run hotter and will actually wear quicker! Running the fans higher, creates a cooler laptop and it will actually perform faster because it will NOT thermal throttle (although be louder). The "Pro" mode will allow the user to actually use the full potential of the hardware purchased. In my opinion, the fans should be on by default with a "Quiet Mode" feature to lower them.
Best Idea for twitter,
you can edit but your records are visible to people.
so basically you can see the original tweet if you want to.
Lew is really exposing Willy Du in this vid XD
Privacy is for "undue search and seizure". Pursuit of prosecuting a crime is not "undue". There's no conflict between privacy principles and justice if warrants provide justification for the information. It is easy. It's called warrants. The problem is when the warrants come from secret courts, with no oversight like the NSA, and the Patriot Act. This is not as slippery slope as people think.
Really doesn’t matter for people going to store or buying the stuff online as both modes are convenient, what matters is the price 🏷
I dont see no problem with Apple's security.
On my S9, i have a secure folder, I made it disguised as a banking app that requires pin or fingerprint. I would gladly give my phone up since they wont know how or where to find the encrypted data.
All the stuff they would see on my phone would be seperate from the private stuff.
Dantedijon1 well you just snitched on yourself just now.. 🤦🏽♂️🤣
@@adrianrivera4203 not really since nobody knows who I am
Have apple retrieve the info and only hand over that, not the back door key!
Yes, it seems the government is just using this shooting as an excuse. They must not want the info in this particular phone very bad if they keep insisting they want a back door key.
They don't have a backdoor key. The Justice department wants apple to build one into iOS. They handed over all the iCloud data already because that is not encrypted
This unlock concept is commonly miss understood and as I work in I.T security I can provide some information.
The purpose of encryption is to create obscurification of data to prevent third parties from understanding data shared by two individual parties. This allows logins to websites I.E Facebook or other data services to be secure. When experts design encryption algorithms they don't build them with the intention of back doors (master keys) as that greatly lowers the security. Think about a key to your house that has to be designed so it's generic enough that another key could unlock it but not generic enough that all keys could work, what a logistical nightmare and what if that master key got figured out or shared with the word. Now everyone can access your house.
Lew is super real when he’s talking about the OG install for OSX that allowed you to control fan speeds. Used to do it back in the day on my MacBook running boot camp for CounterStrike. It even showed CPU/GPU temps, etc... keep it real Lew
Essentially, there should be warrant(issued by the judge) to invade someone's private data. Just as you get a warrant to invade and search probable criminal's house.
They been after a backdoor for years
Backdoor slags vol. 12 ! ! !
A 'turbo boost' button for macs would be cool. I've also been running a fan utility on mine almost from the beginning.
I like how that barista wrote "have a wonderful day!" on his starbucks cup. I also wonder if anyone else even notices stuff like that
That's good marketing by Apple 👏🏾
If apple lose this lawsuit and trumps makes that law. You can kiss goodbye to the last remaining privacy you have left
Has Apple gone too far? Has the American Government gone too far would be a more apt title. A backdoor to one iPhone is a backdoor to EVERY iPhone. Who wants the FBI to have access to every single iPhone? Who says they will be the only Government or entity to possess it? This is an awful idea and I actually praise Apple for its resilience to protect user information.
Couldn't apple just have the lawyer's write a clause in the privacy agreement that in the event a user is accused of a violent crime, and apple is provided a warrant, then they can and will assist law enforcement? Seems easy.
Me: go into your settings and format your phone
Killer: not quick enough *pulls out gun*
Ram memory is not physically erased until something else is saved in it’s place.
If the guy intends to destroy the device, it has probable intent to cause further harm to national security and civilian rights, and that warrants the right to unlock or reveal information stored on that phone. It's different than simply leaving the device locked. Locking is to protect privacy. Destroying is giving up the right to any privacy.
IF user.destroy = 1
THEN unlockdevice = 1
IF user.destroy = 0
THEN unlockdevice = 0
Why can’t you just take the onboard storage and move it to another iPhone to make it easier?
Or will that not work?
They should have a way around their locked phones, but one that wipes them clean.
Apple should have been more consistent with this policy when it came to giving the FBI access to the phones of people they politically disagree'd with. The fact they suddenly are standing their ground in a situation where unlocking the phone could save lives and prevent future acts of terror is telling and they deserve every single bit of criticism that will come their way because of it.
I agree with you guys that the "pro mode" should be a toggle like the useless "turbo" buttons of the old PC's. This way, you're only stressing the Mac when you need to do heavy stuff, like video editing.
Like its a plug in an office and it just says decrypting and no ones privacy is compromised... No one knows the secret sauc3...
Been here from the beginning, and things are always moving up... keep up the good work... will you du 😅
Never use word "greater good"!!! Never we all know what happen next how many wars America is in for greater good?
I think there should be a precedent set to protect people's information on phones. Apple has another right to protect their privacy and that of their consumers but, in cases like these, I dont think anyone would blame them for unlocking the phone.
We had this discussion today in my criminal justice class and most agreed that they should open the phone, considering a court found it lawful for them to do so.
If apple/others should be forced to unlock their client phones, that tool should never leave apple's posession, if they want it unlocked, bring the device to apple/samsung/whoever and hand the phone over to the manufacturer, they remove the encryption, and hand back the phone to law enforcement fully unlocked and unencrypted

@@carholic-sz3qv Then I guess we are all criminals?
If your willing to give up your freedom for security, you deserve neither.
Legally, the government has no right to decrypt that iPhone, whether it belongs to a nanny or .some drug dealer. The moment a person purchases an iPhone, s/he agrees to terms and conditions about data protection provided by Apple. If that is to be changed, it should only affect people from this moment and the future. Everything should be done by the book.
What’s next they can go into your head and pull out memories? This is unconstitutional to unlock someone’s phone.
as long as we cannot mind-read, data on our phones should remain inaccessible to anyone other than ourselves. even the manufacturer
This is a tough issue to grapple with . What if you had a sibling on an airbase in Saudi Arabia ? Wouldn't you want to know if they were under an immediate threat and what that threat was ? Celebrite UFED is said to be able to force the iPhone open . Of course a further complication is the this is an Israeli company and the threat is from a Saudi citizen
Can't wait for "We couldn't stop the terrorist attack because Apple stupid Wall"
Orr, this guy could have been properly vetted BEFORE he was allowed to be in the military 🤷♂️ This isn’t Apple’s problem, this is an issue with ppl in government/military dropping the ball.

Don't do it Apple, stay strong!! It's a slippery slope and you'd be opening Pandora's box!!
If you allow phones to be opened immediately in a court case than that would make people less likely to use phones during crimes - thus making crimes more difficult
I agree.
Lol smart people buy burner phones.
@@propeldragon Exactly my point. They would have to go out of their way to buy burner phones (making crimes more difficult)
@@olih322 Go out of there way? They could just get one when they get groceries at Walmart. So easy to get phones.
@@propeldragon Firstly, in the UK you can't just buy a phone from your local supermarket (especially not burner phones).
Secondly, if you are going to commit a crime such as theft you are not going to buy a phone to do it. But if the court could then use your only phone that could help distributing justice.
Law enforcement (the government) doesn’t want to access one, or even a handful of devices, they can pay a 3rd party security company to hack a device, as they have in the past. They want a permanent back door they can use to access all devices, at any time. Once a back door is put in, eventually anyone will be able to access it.
Happy Apple is refusing to cave. Personal privacy must be preserved. If the government agency wants in, they should have to figure it out themselves. Individuals personal right to privacy must be preserved under the law, even at the risk of ones personal safety.
Apple is right. It's a slippery slope that could easily lead to anyone's phone being compromised due to the Patriots act. Privacy is incredibly important.
I think this should be handled on a case by case basis. We live in a country where the laws are in world of precedent so what happens today, affects tomorrow.
what about legal precedent if apple caves in on one of these cases, they can be taken to court and legally compelled to do it again to joe schmo who's suspected of speeding because 'you've done it before so why not do it again"
The battery capacity is not too good on my macbook pro 16” .
I don’t want Apple to build a backdoor. I love Apple for this
Why can't they go for the info from the cell phone provider or the cloud instead of the phone itself
I fully agree with apple protect your privacy don't give them an inch. Law enforcement should tap the phone themselves not ask apple to do so.
Am I the only one who want Willy do's mic cranked up to the same level as Lew's?
Roflmfao American court. They can’t even protect there own constitutional law.
The point you kinda missed is that Apple doesn't develop backdoors into the iPhones. The US Government essesntially wants Apple to start building backdoors for use in certain situations. FUCK THAT IMO.
I stand with Apple on this one. Apple's privacy policy is one of the only reasons why I'm really considering to switch to an iPhone.
Why can’t the court system just subpoena Apple for the information?
Ethan Mitchell because they do they don’t have the information. They gave them everything they had in their possession. The government wants them to destroy their own security wall and create an iOS back door so they can access any iPhone when they want to without having to ask anybody.
This is a, I-can't-let-you-look-at-this-folder-I'm-leaving-here-on-my-desk-while-I-go-get-some-coffee situation. People have no fucking sense.
You're saying too often "as far as I'm concerned"😂
Apple should send mandatory survey to all apple users on their devices that ask them that they think apple should do. Do that case by case and use a majority vote
Definitely respect Apple’s stand on privacy. If the government wants access put it to a vote.
Taxpayers ALSO pay for their phones.....but your advocating the Government now having ultimate ownership of YOUR GOODS...very unAmerican
If your principles change depending on the situation, then you don’t have principles. If you force a company to release their encryption software you have not violated one person’s privacy, you have opened the potential to violate the privacy of every iOS user. And do you trust the government to not abuse the shit out of that!?
next channel name "Lew Legal" lol
Why doesn’t apple have an FBI guy in there company, for these type of cases , it would avoid all the freaking trouble! Apple unlocks it the FBI agent says ok , there’s a cause, and done, that’s a call, maybe a drive , not a trial with the Justice department.
Which part of canada is lew from with the "dis, dat, den" kinda lingo?
I like the graphics but what's with the random boots beside Willy Du.
Why don't you have guests on here? It's really silent and one sided convos lol. Apple just doesn't want them to see how they set those phones up to slow down each gen
Lets also not forget that apple says they cannot actually get into the phones the make which is why they emphasize problems with a back door weakness.
I don’t think Apple is in the wrong. Security is security and if Apple already handed over all the information they could then let the government get into the phone like they are going to try to do anyways.
Once you do it for one you can do it for all Apple should just keep its encryption locked and closed if they do this would be a huge blow to privacy and will be another huge part of history of when we start to lose our privacy to technology
The moment you put a door on every wall with ONE lock, it's easy to open every door.
All Apple phones have to have a 6 digit numerical code. All the FBI need do is 000001, 000002 ...
It will probably lock you out after a few wrong guesses, then you have to wait minutes or hours later to try some more.
