    This combo of transmission and shifter was the best in Pro Stock, 1970, till 1973, YOL, ( year of Lenco ) . Strong as Rony's Hemi 4 speed and Dyno Don's Ford Top Loader, and quite a bit lighter with less internal drag and inertial losses . And in a good chasis just about never missed a shift .

      I presume you are referring to the 1970, 2nd Gen F body with Bill Jenkins signature on the cowl; the simplest answer to that is:
      It has been said that the quarter panels and roof skin from this car were grafted onto a donor F body and chassis by a body shop to restore that car.
      You'll have to draw your own conclusion as to how much a pair of quarters and a roof skin equates to a car.
      I will say that the general consensus of those who have offered me their opinions are: the engine, trans, rear axle, chassis and cage are the major components that made up that race car. One man summed up everyone's thoughts by saying "when was the last time you saw someone drive a pair of quarter panels and a roof down the track ?"

      Thanks for following along, we've had a few hang ups with vendors having problems sourcing parts and labor shortages.
      We've been waiting on the front steering and suspension for about a year and a half, that's frustrating but understandable given the circumstances.
      We had sourced NOS quarters, tail panel and a roof skin but then found out the quarters on a 70 model year are different than all other 2nd Gen F bodies so I had to find an early, preferably 12/69, 2nd Gen Camaro body it's being shipped to Los Angeles next Monday.
      The block has been sent off to Cedar Machine Services to correct previous repairs and they'll probably do some videos of their work with Bill's Can Am block.
      Should Start moving along again when the body gets here, fingers crossed.
      Thanks again for following

    Was this the Steelcase super T-10 or the aluminum case.

    • @ProjectsMB

      It is an iron case and was supposed to have an aluminum tail housing but he did have one he thought was good enough so he provided an iron unit.

      @@ProjectsMBI really could tell by the pictures, and the mid plate looks aluminum,
      Back around 1974 I built a 331 tunnel ram, put it in a 55 Chevrolet Pickup, I had a real nice M22 Rock Crusher, a guy that I knew told me hell you need to get a super T10, so so I found a T10 GM all aluminum case, and then the jerk said oh no I used the all steel case, did not know any better back then.
      I have been looking for one for years have not been able to find one.
      I have learned a whole lot in the last 50 years about parts.

      That was supposedly an over the counter early super T-10. They had a 10 spline input and 27 output. I still have 2, they are iron cased, and both pro shifted. Got 1 in 89, the other in the 90s. I case is dated 1973. I ran one in my 67 gto for a while on the street. I was like 19 then. Lotta fun.

      Because it is. It uses a 3 speed shifter with an additional rod to engage reverse.

  • @594bolt

    Can you reverse in any gear with that separate shifter?

    • @ProjectsMB
      @ProjectsMB  3 роки тому

      No, in the most generalized terms, when a manual transmission is meshed into a gear it is not mechanically possible to engage any other gear until that gear is disengaged.

      100% you could have it in reverse and then jam it in a forward gear, tranny would be locked solid though.

    Garbage, ford top loader is much stronger.

    • @ProjectsMB
      @ProjectsMB  3 роки тому +2

      During the era in which this trans was used '70-'72 Pro/Stock cars could use any available transmission. All the drag racing sanctioning bodies rule books said any trans from any domestic automobile manufacturer. If Jenkins had thought there was any type of advantage to running a top loader I'm sure he would have, since he ran a Dana 60 rear axle in this Camaro for exactly the reason you stated durability, especially since the Dana 60 takes more power to turn than a 12 bolt.
      There weren't a lot of transmission explosions in the pre-Lenco Pro/Stock cars. Regardless of manufacturer all the competitive racers built their "dog boxes" with high nickle gear sets and a cast iron case so I don't agree with your point for race applications. Street cars completely different story and I do agree the top loader is stronger in stock form but then again the hemi trans holds up and shifts through the ranges smoother.

    • @zacharylafata5142
      @zacharylafata5142 2 роки тому

      Keep in mind the borg and beck clutches had quite a bit of slip back in the day which kept the trans alive. Any type of shock will start hurting parts.

    • @bobbrinkerhoff3592
      @bobbrinkerhoff3592 Рік тому +1

      The Ford trans may have been stronger , but it was slower shifting between gears , which is why only the die hard Ford guys ran them . A few hundredths here , a tenth there , it all adds up when trying to get to the finish line first .
