Kerala Style Dal Curry for Chappathi & Rice

  • Ingredients
    Toor Dal - 1 cup
    Shallots - 9 to 10 nos
    Tomatoes - 2 nos
    Green chilli - 3 to 4 nos
    Curry leaves - 3 to 4 sprigs
    Grated coconut - 1 cup
    Dry red chilli - 3 to 4 nos
    Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
    Cumin seed - 1 tsp
    Salt - 1 or 2 tsp
    Oil - 4 to 5 tbsp
    Method
    Heat a pan with water and cleaned toor dal.
    Then add turmeric powder and salt.
    Add some dry red chili, curry leaves, and oil,mix them well.
    Cover and cook them well.
    Remove the lid and mix them well.
    Then crush the ginger and garlic and keep them aside.
    Then grind the grated coconut turmeric powder and cumin seed into a coarse paste.
    Heat oil in a pan and add crushed ginger and garlic,saute them well.
    Add curry leaves and shallots and saute them on the well.
    Add chopped green chilli and saute them well
    Then add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt.
    Saute them well for a few minutes.
    Add the chopped tomatoes and saute them well.
    Add the grounded coconut mix and mix them well.
    Pour a sufficient amount of water over them and thoroughly mix them.
    Cook for a few minutes.
    Take the pan off the heat and set it aside.
    Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seed and let them sputter.
    Add the dried red chillies, curry leaves and shallots.
    Fry them well.
    Remove from the heat and transfer the mixture to the dal curry pan.
    Combine them well.
    Serve the tasty dal curry with meals.
