Since we knew nothing about computers, we had a "computer savvy" guy come over and help us out. He did some changes in the autoexec.bat and config.ini files and voila, the game booted. He left and we sat down to play. The game froze after about a minute and we had to reboot the computer. Now, the problem was that instead of Windows 95 booting, what we got was.. Soccer Kid. Every single time we rebooted.. Soccer Kid. 'Twas good times..
Wow that's crazy! Last week I picked this game up on a wim for £10 before I did I looked to see if you had made a video talking about it.. but hadn't.. and boom bow here it is 😁 lol
I wonder if the speed problem has to do with PAL systems running at a lower frame rate. If it wasn't adjusted in the NTSC release, it might be running faster than intended.
Great game on Amiga, but I would never touch Snes version, or Gba or Jaguar ones, they have lowered resolution so as You see less and in game with so many fast stuff going on it will result in instant frustration. Go pick 3DO version, it is the best one with best resolution so You will see well where to go and where are enemies.
Holdup! You mean there's *another* 16-bit platformer about a kid with a projectile football/soccer ball?? Thought this was just an snes version of the Sega Genesis game, Marko/Marko's Magical Football, and expected you to mention 'Genesis' in the list of ported consoles, but it turns out they're not the same game, wth lol. Never had or played Marko myself, but the box art and concept always caught my eye. Would be curious for the SnesDrunk opinion on that one in comparison to this one haha.

I was never much into sports games of the 16-bit era other than maybe Megaman Soccer but this one looked promising with the platforming side-scrolling elements.
I had no idea that this game was called Kid Kleets outside of England. I had Soccer Kid for the Amiga 1200, and I seem to recall that it absolutely blows.
I had this game when I was a kid, it is fun but not easy. It's a trial and error kind of game. Expect to die alot, until you memorize the levels and know what is ahead of you, it gets more fun as you replay it and the music in this game is really good. There are several very catchy tunes.
Few things are as exquisitely annoying as mighty Jim Power getting vaporized by a large drop of water. Dude, what kind of dashing space hero are you? Even Zapp Brannigan is laughing at you!
To think that someone must have playtested this game and thought that this camera was just fine. Or maybe they didn't but the publisher was like 'nope, gotta publish fast!' :)
I remember this as Soccor kid in one of my SNES magezines. Not sure if it got an Australian release but I never saw it as a rental. Of course, still images can't show what live footage does. That camera flipping left to right would have pissed me off.
I was hoping for a review of this game for some time now and I wasn't disappointed. Once again spot on! Since I was a total soccer kid myself, my choice was easy and despite all its flaws I loved this game. Thinking about it now, I wonder which game I could have gotten instead.
Seems to me like the camera issues could've been fixed by just centering the camera on Kid Kleets, allowing for a good range of view on both sides of the character, so it wouldn't flip back and forth.
You should check out the SFC version of this game. It changes kid fleets for an anime looking kid created by a manga artist, though sadly only in the title screen. It’s kinda nuts

I have the Super Famicom version, but it kinda sucks due to the controls - they mapped jump to up on the d-pad rather than a face button which doesn't work very well. I used to quite like the game on the Amiga.
There's a game just like this on GBA called Go!Go! Bekham! which fixes nearly every problem you stated and also introduces multiple balls. It's super fun and relatively unknown. I recommend it.
If I remember correctly, you could kick the ball in front of you and hit enemies off screen. That was on the DOS version. Dont blame me if I'm wrong, that was over 25 years ago.. In any case I really liked the game and it was far from unplayable!
