Not a 'poor mans Rolex' - Tudor Royal 41 Review

- This is a solid and strong release from Tudor. Its nice to see them developing watches other than the Black Bay and Pelagos. This Royal 41 has some elements commonly found in Rolex models (just like the BB and Pelly do) but done in unmistakable Tudor style and flair. I've really enjoyed this one!
Shout out to Brad at Brent L Miller Jewelers for hooking me up. They carry Tudor, Omega, Breitling, Grand Seiko, Seiko, and Hamilton. Reach out to him here:

Literally just got mine and came back to this video to say, I AM IN LOVE with this watch!
It's a beautiful watch ,how much are they?
My sentiments exactly ! got the same watch recently coz of Bruces vid earlier vid ! cheers Bruce
@@darrenfry4695 about 2500 euros more or less

Dial color?
I just picked one up today, excited for it to arrive, honestly I liked this exact model you bought the most for several reasons, I love Roman numerals, I love unique dark dials, I love day dates, hate not having the day. I've been buying, selling and collecting mid tier watches for about 6 years now and wanted something entry level luxury, but daily or even dressy... This model just checked all the boxes for myself
I am finally getting one of these bad boys as soon I land the deal I want. I’ve always thought the Royal was a class overall piece along with a few other lower profile Tudor models.
Over the years Tudor has grown on me. Thanks so much for the video Bruce, getting into the finer details and looks of the watch has sold me.
I Have a few quality Swiss auto & Japanese timepieces to let go of to lighten the load of the collection to land this piece.
I got my Royal 38 mm blue. I am in love with the watch. I think it is an incredible watch for the price. I used to have vintage Rolexes: Datejust and Oysterquartz and this Royal is like a beautiful mix between those two models for me )
I have this day date version in steel with the blue dial and it’s brilliant. For about £2.5k it looks awesome, wears really well and can be worn in a number of different situations!
A great eyecatcher 👌 Absolutely love the two tone! Congratulations!
Where have I been, just noticed this watch today and found your video. No brainer black and gold looks outstanding!
I have the 41 in stainless with the blue face. Absolutely love it.
Mine is due for delivery this week. Managed to get the last one available in the U.K. very happy indeed
The watch looks spectacular on your wrist. I think this is a nice option from Tudor for a fair price. I think there’s no text on the dial because it’s not a chronometer. Also, I think any time a manufacturer goes through the pains of including a threaded crown tube and screw down crown with gasket on a non dive watch, it speaks to the level of quality put into the watch. Thanks for the review. Well done as always.
Excellent comment!
Love your review and it influenced me to buy this watch in this variant. I have the heritage Black Bay 41 in black, the Tudor GMT and the Tudor panda Chrono…I’m all in on Tudor, love the all Tudor watches I own
Black and Gold. Great combo.
Wow! Beautiful! Great review and quality video.
I love the watch. Thanx for showing it too us.
Thank you for the video. Just bought same one today.
Haven't worn a watch for 6 years and then bought a Tudor Royal 41 with blue dial and diamonds aaaand I absolutely love it. Got other watches too now but the Tudor Royal is still my favourite.
I love a black dial with gold accents, this does not disappoint.
Bought the Tudor Royal 41 black at the airport for €1850. I think is an awesome piece for an awesome price! Lovely dial, bracelet and bezel.
Wish there was a blue dial option for the bicolor ones! Would definitely pull the trigger if there was, now I’m still on thr fence.
I went for the blue dial with diamond hour markers. I'm from the UK and was very lucky to grab one from my AD. I absolutely love it.
Love your videos. Among the best watch videos on the net. Own the blue 38mm and love it. Keep up the good work
Champagne dial in my opinion is the best combo.
Beautiful watch !
I have this is all stainless and it’s great addition to the collection.
this reminds me of the Tissot prx which i actually wear more than my other watches. i love the look and this style of watch over your regular shaped watches
I've sold my breitling avenger night mission ceramic to get two of the royals, your one and the other with blue dial and steel.
My friend just showed me this line and I’m obsessed 😭. Cant believe these are cheaper than the most base model black bay. Probably best option for a watch around 2k that I can think of. Maybe a low end breitling or something?
My favourite tudor, for sure my next purchase.
Got mine in stainless with a silver dial with diamond markers..loving it!
I bought the same watch in 38mm, absolutely beautiful, love it.
I just saw the stainless and black dial at the AD yesterday, and it's way better than the pictures or video. The watch looks really sharp in real life. I almost bought it, but I'm waiting to see the blue dial in real life before I decide which one to buy. The black and gold is definitely awesome looking!!
Thanks for giving this wonderful watch some love Bruce! The all stainless steel version has a gothic vibe to me I really like, it's on my list, though I really wish they would have gone COSC---curious if you have any thoughts about accuracy and such? I heard Tudor says the T603 has "chronometer performance". Also I second the shout out to Brad over at Brent Miller, picked up a different piece from them recently and highly recommend as a dealer.
Yeah mine has been chronometer accuracte as well. I would imagine they regulate in 5 positions like all their line, but just don't go through the trouble or payment of sending it to the COSC
@@BruceWilliams Thanks!
Great review, thanks.
I like the Royal series, just have not seen any in person. Great video
I love this watch! I think it's beautiful and clean!
Great review. Agree with everything. This such an awesome watch. I bougt the 41 two tone, and have admired it every day since. Was indecisive given the mixed opinions online, until I saw it on my wrist. It's a no-brainer. Get it.
Thanks Bruce a great vid, as always. You wouldn't believe it, but I like this watch. The shape of the case. The classy look and the two-tone with black dial. I feel this watch.
Of course I believe it. This watch rocks. People will catch up to us though. The general market is usually a year or two behind the times
I love mine and believe me on the wrist this watch just comes alive ! !
Great review as usual Bruce. Beautiful timepiece. I'd wear it :) Two-tone watches are making a slow comeback. I'm a little shocked that Tudor went with a Sellita movement though. Still trying to figure out how I feel about that move. Cheers!
That really “pops” bro. I like it and very tempted to buy one on Jomashop for $3k. Even with a bit of bling included
looks like a great piece. it does have a rolex day-date flavor. good video. be safe. ~ JDS/CT
thanks for this review. i have a pelagos lhd and a grandseiko sakura but just really drawn to this kind of 70s vibe
I'd buy this watch for it's thickness alone.
Great video Bruce, I commend you for going against the grain on this one!
Great vid, Bruce! I agree that you are ahead of the curve on this watch. It takes some watch fans a while to warm up to certain designs. I think this will become a fan favorite in a few years. Remember - not long ago, Rolex had a hard time selling the Milgauss. Now they are hard to find. Also, Sellita is a great movement, and using that keeps the purchase price (and service price) nice and low.
I just came across this brand and I'm absolutely in love. I love the Tudor Royal way more than the Rolex Day Date. They are not the same watch. Just because they both display the day, as well as the date. That's like saying a Seiko and a Citizen are the same because they both make a chronograph. Its nonsensical. The Tudor Royal is a stunning watch. My personal favourite is the steel and gold diamond set chocolate brown 41mm. That's my next watch 👌🏼
Hi Bruce, great review as always. How would you compare the Royal to the FC Highlife that you previously reviewed? Is the Royal still in your collection?!
Hey Bruce! Have you heard of the modern Tudor Prince Date+Day? These are current Tudor releases exclusive to the Asian market. Seems like a watch that should be in your radar. Love the content man!
I bought one 3 or 4 years ago. Good homage!
I've always liked the stainless/gold 2 tone watch look . Have been thinking lately about a 2 tone Explorer.
Thank for the review, tired of people using the 'poor mans Rolex' description because they know nothing about watches if they think Tudor is only a cheaper version of Rolex. Lots of Tudor watches has its own distinct features like the design and movements. If you had $500 would you spend it all on a 16oz A5 wagyu steak or would you spend $200 on a dry aged Tomahawk and $300 to spare? It's personal preference. Ofc we know the A5 wagyu is more fatty and tender but you get my point.
Got the 41 diamond gold black dial she’s just underated
I’m really leaning toward this watch for my first luxury watch
Same
It is funny because I am watching this while wearing my Carrera Day Date with the same movement. This is a very nice watch.
Got mine a month ago after 6 months waiting list !
Amazing review as always, on a watch that Im really considering once I get my PT license. How is the comfort and adjustment options? Honestly it looks incredible in two tone. I do wish the 11` could be complete though.. oh well.
If your wrist is on the smaller end like mine (< 7 inches) then you might wanna try on the watch fitted to the wrist before you buy (wish I'd have done this).
I have this exact same watch and since this was my first watch purchase I didn't know everything I had to look out for.
The issue is that when removing the spare links the clasp ends up sitting off centered which can be quite unconfortable depending on how fussy you are.
In my case my wrist is 6.2/3 inches which is not overly small but small enough that the watch bracelet wasn't really desgined for this type of wrist in mind. I have to have all the spare links removed and that results in the clasp sitting off centered quite a bit and sticks out on one end of the wrist, hard to explain in words.
Hope this info is useful. :)
Liked for the Cardinals hat. Go Redbirds!
Just bought the Tudor Royal 41 in Salmon. Thought about buying the CW12 for months now but this caught my eye and I jumped on it! Thanks for your review! General question: can I mmanually wind this periodically since power reserve is only 38 hrs? Or is a watch winder better for the watch. I have another Sellita movemen5 watch which I manually wind when not wearing.
The CW the Twelve is an amazing watch too, arguably with better value for money. It has better dial pattern and more dial colour choices; but the Royal has the lovely big day compilation and a fancier bracelet, so I picked up the salmon dial 41mm too this year.
Yes, you can absolutely wind it up manually in the crown's first position; a common feature of most Sellita movements. Not sure if it's better or worse than a winder though; never use one myself.
Loved the intro! I do agree it's a competitively priced piece. The finishing is close to Rolex, the movement being the biggest difference. Sellita and ETA if they are regulated are more than ok.
Royal has it's own distinct style. I like it.
Too many elements mixed together on one watch for me but I appreciate the quality and we all appreciate different things, so it's nice to know all tastes are catered for.
If you don’t mind , what were the first things that stood out to you as being of poor quality or unacceptable . I was thinking of digging into one of these, taking the time to go nearest AD and possibly buying one. I think it’s a classy looking piece from a brand with plenty of heritage but I’ve never put one on so I’d like to hear your thoughts. Thanks !
@@poppad1187 if you love the watch you should get it, doesn't matter what anyone else's opinion is. For me individually I like the features, but all together Roman numerals, gold embellished bezel, large date window, the integrated bracelet with gold it's all a little too much when combined, so for me I prefer the more subtle Tudor dress watches, but like I said if you like it go for it, everyone has different tastes.
I wish it had a display case back.
What I've noticed is that most of the ⌚ companies that take their"inspiration" from the 70's or early 80's that are killing it ! is this Tudor & this is one of the main examples !
in UE the Royal is very famous. it is very sold.. the size 38 also goes a long way, I have the 38mm blu dial, very rare
I have a 41mm date/day but currently struggling to sell as private but being offered okay ish money as a sale at watch dealers (still less than retail which I paid) unsure what to do, is it worth holding on it yet? Owned since 2021
My most favorite watch
I’m having a very hard time picking out the dial option for this watch I’m pretty sure after three or four years of deciding which watch I’m going to buy at a price range max budget of $3000 Swiss watch
I’m leaning towards the tudor royal .. I really like the all stainless but the blue dial and black dial are just beautiful as well of course the silver and gold is gorgeous. I’m just not sure if I want to spend the extra thousand dollars or so for that configuration… I was looking at the longines Hydroconquest, Maurice Lacroix aikon but I’m thinking Tudor is the right move .. thank you for your information and well done videos
I’m in the same boat.. been looking at a Baume and Mercier Riviera. But saw this with the salmon face now I’m stuck 😮💨
Haters will jump on your jugular because of the gold-plated links on the bracelet, complaining that Rolex never did this and all that crap. Yes, Rolex has had fully gold-plated watches and there are many in very good condition to this day. I love 1550 34mm Rolex from the seventies, never seen one with poor plating issues. Gold-plating is perfectly fine when done professionally, it will not peel off. I would stick with the 38mm version though. But only because my wrist is Tim Mosso's size!!! Nice video, man.
I’m with you! I’m considering a purchase but, would it look cooler if the day and date were colour matched?
This watch with a loupe amd the 70h power reserve movememt could be a rolex beater for sure !
I love these watches
Nice watch. I prefer the 38 silver or blue. But again. The royal is A nice line
How do you take the bracelet off? I can't figure it out.
Anybody know what is the weight on the steel 41mm? I tried on this watch lately, lots of wrist presence, the bezel was surprisingly great.
I have a Rolex DateJust 36mm. So hung up on saving a bit more and getting a DJ 41mm
how much is your wrist in circumference?
shortened the bracelet?
Hi. I have a very important question to ask and any information would be really helpful. I have a Tudor royal 41 day & date. On my movement, I don't have 2429 written. Instead, I have Sw240-1 written. Do you think the watch is legit?
Thank you in advance!
beauty !
Great video I just have one question! Is the gold really solid or capped because I found this scrolling in the comments in another review: "The Black Bay S&G models have solid crowns, bezels and end links while links in the bracelet are capped. The 1926 and Royal lines do differ. The Royal bezels and bracelet links are capped while the crowns are plated which helps assist in keeping the cost more approachable. The 1926 models have solid end links with capped bracelet links and bezels, however the 28mm versions do have solid bezels. You may see or hear otherwise, but this info is direct from Tudor." Thanks!
Beautiful Watch! This model, I think is best expressed with the combination of yellow gold and steel. How big is your wrist? Thanks in advance.
Love it🤩🤩👍🏻
nice watch, prefer that kinda clasp , tudor have nice designs
I do like the integrated bracket! It’s a cool design, I prefer the Rolex Oysterquartz 17000! 👌👍 it’s starting to become a popular design again.
It’s close to being something aid consider. The day/date windows need to be worked out, both the color and the interaction of the day with the dial numbers. My main issue though, is the dial, feels cheaper than the watch, and seems too modern for the style. Needs a metallic sunray with something other than Romans.
It is a metallic sunray hobby bobby :)
Stick indexes, fluted bezel/round bezel (like the PRX), slightly ticker center links, sw300, 39 mm. That would have been perfection, IMHO.
Definitely a unique design. Not to my taste at all but glad people are buying and enjoying it.
Love my Royal, have the exact same 41mm full steel version with salmon dial. Have to say though, not that much a fan of two-tones; but that's just personal taste.
Do you still like your Tudor Royal? Thinking a buy one. Do the bracelet make some marks on the case?
?
i got the diamond dial its sooo nice
how does this compare to other integrated bracelet watches in this segment. Im particularly looking at the Christopher Ward twelve which also offers great value for money!
Dang I really dig this, like a lot
I can’t get over the fact that the numerals have been hacked into to allow for the day window. Why didn’t they make it a fraction smaller so it fits between?????
Funny timing that you dropped this video today. LOL. Your unboxing video of this got me interested. I really like it. I have all divers and pilot watches and this one, to me, is a sport watch that can double as a dress watch. I like the steel and gold, but I think for the way I dress the all steel might be better. I actually went to my Tudor AD today to try on the 41mm Royal. I really liked it and the bracelet is very nice. It looks great as an integrated bracelet. Looks better on wrist IMO than in the pictures/video.
Brent L Miller is a legend
Not a fan of the Royal, but that is personal taste, but I do think that it is needed in the Tudor stable. I am also sure that there are those it would work for. Bruce as always a great view.
Love this range from Tudor! Maybe an acquired taste but when everything else looks safe and undistinctive, this one really shines. It's definitely one of those that shouldn't be judged until one has it on wrist. Rugged yet blingy. Sporty yet dressy. Brutish yet elegant. It's a masterpiece. Enjoy!
Absolutely fantastic descriptions!!🔥🔥🔥
Good value as undoubtedly well made great name etc but …….It is a Day date homage however as you can’t get Rolex at the moment and this is far cheaper but still great finishing I can see why Bruce likes it …. But it’s a Rolex substitute and you may still always want the Day date . It won’t stop the itch I am afraid, whereas the Black Bays are different and that’s why I think they are more popular because they have their own desirability.
lol yeah the desire to own what the Sub used to be
@@BruceWilliams the sun used to be attainable to most people too, so many of us grew up wanting one or hoping to get one but now can’t due to the insane market. The Daydate was always out of reach for a lot more people so even if Rolex made a steel Daydate I’d have been interested… but you wouldn’t be able to get one anyway I guess and it would be 4-5x price
I’m considering the blue royal but just wish the 38mm had the day complication.
I WANTED to like it because I think it looks good in pictures, but I almost instantly didn’t like it on my wrist (and I have Tudors and two tone watches, so I’m not against either).
Is the bezel and the crown 18k gold or capped gold?
I can see why some like it but for me:
Don’t like integrated bracelet
Don’t like two tone usually
Don’t really like. Romans
Don’t like white date wheel on black dial
Don’t like fancy fluted bezel
Otherwise it’s the tops
If only it came in a blue dial in two tone, with an in house movement with 70 hours power reserve, I'd buy it
I own the Tudor Royal 41 Day Date. The case is a dead ringer for the Rolex Oyster Quartz. The Roman Numerals and the day and the date are dead ringers for Rolex. But they ARE sibling corporations. That being said it IS a Tudor. I do love this watch. I just wish the Tudor shield was applied and more prominent.
I need one
Yup, that's a cool dress watch. Would chose this over the Bland Bay (really dislike those) , more individual and unique imho. I've zero need or desire for a dress watch, but if I did this would be on the list ( behind a Cartier tho). I like it, especially the Romans.
Cool, Cheers mate 👍👍
A cracking (really great) looking watch Bruce. This must be one of the best decorated 3rd party movement that I've seen, certainly at this price point. I think Tudor went for a Sellita movement on this occasion as you say to move away from any possible supply issues from ETA and I would not be surprised to see other existing Tudor models in the future housing Sellita movements as well. With the number of manufacturers moving to Sellita I would be slightly concerned though on the availability of those as well in the future.
See Farer for decoration, they offer top grade decorated movements for about 1/3 the equivalent Tudor
nice to look under the watchh this caliber ! i need same with flutted bezel
