Very true I stopped chasing luxury bags this year, I looked at my chanel bag and ask myself, I bought this mini bag it barely fits my phone but paid 5K . Wake up call for me.
Lol I know what you mean! Like part of me still wants the Kelly to wallet, but it's almost 5k for the smallest bag possible...like why do I do this to myself haha...
Thank you for this video. I thought about starting a Hermes journey but I haven’t yet. I like the brand, some of the handbags and the scarves. I really wanted a quota bag in a particular color. I ended up selling one of my my Chanel CF and a LV bag and I purchased a K 25 in the color I wanted preloved at double the store price. I don’t know if that was the best decision but I know I got want I wanted and I don’t have now the urge to get a quota bag from the boutique. I still would like to get maybe a scarf, belt and maybe a bolide from the store but I don’t want to get caught up in the game. Keeping track of the spending and checking every month it’s a smart way to go. Thank you for making this video, it’s a wake up call.
Thank you for watching and commenting! I was thinking about making a video about what it means to pay above retail - because if you think about it, you would've spent about the same amount to get the bag from store, and it may not be the color you want depending on how long you want to wait, etc. and chances are a scarf and a belt won't be enough of a prespend. So now that you don't have the urge, that may be better in the long run!
Thank you for the transparency and sobering video! I appreciate you doing this knowing it's not a popular vibe in the lux community. As someone who also loves collecting luxury bags, I do keep a spreadsheet of my expenses and I still get that feeling of dread when I have to add to it. Which tells me I'm still over-doing it. I started my UA-cam last year thinking I can get creative and channel some of my passion for this hobby into making videos but so far I can't even keep up with my unboxings and I am trying to find ways to pump the brakes. Thanks for the reminder to stay grounded, and realistic.
I am debt free no mortgage either and my only hobby is spending $120 monthly on lottery and feeling very guilty. You are very brave for going after what you love and I don’t have the guts to start and happy with what I have too. Discipline is the key.
Can I ask with the sizing of the men’s ready to wear equestrian polo . I’m trying to figure out what size to get my husband! What size is your hubby wearing ? Tq!
Thank you for sharing this video it's very refreshing! I also track how much I spend each month and for the Hermes spend I have a set dollar amount that I allow myself to spend at the store so it helps to not go overboard.
I recently almost passed out when my new Hermes SA communicated how much I spent last year with my previous SA who recently left the company. Definitely agree with you, just because I can, doesn't mean I should.
Actually, that's a XXL! The equestrian polos run small - he's typically a L (about 6'0 and weighs about 195 lbs). He strted with a L and kept having to size up - and even the XXL is a very slim fit on him. I hope that's helpful!
@@abriefcaseofluxury Circling back! I picked this up in the color Rouge H. Thank you for the recommendation! I highly recommend the Jump Competition Polo shirt from the equestrian line as well.
Fascinating. I love hearing about others' finances. I'd never ask people to reveal how much they make and it's 100% understandable that you would not share that. Though it changes the understanding. Like, 31k/200k? 31k/400k? 31k/600k? Anyway, you asked how many keep a running tab and I use You Need A Budget for which I have to categorize every single transaction I make. Sounds tedious, but as a data nerd, it's actually fun for me, and each transaction takes about 15 seconds. No longer any such thing as a subscription I forgot I even had, and it helps you spend with intention. It makes your financial priorities clear. I promise they don't pay me, I just really love that software!
@@abriefcaseofluxury Oh, right, not all in one year. That is a legitimately important point. Also, you're self-reflective enough, you don't have to beat yourself up anymore with a comparison to gains on Hermes stock at its low point. If we all knew which stocks were currently at their lows and which would blow up, we could all be rich! It's not a fair comparison to put yourself against.
@@mwedzi hahaha I know, that's so true - I guess I wasn't always self-reflective about this topic, on how else I could better spend money, but life is full of "what-ifs" right? But better late than never!
Your spend on in-house bags cost more than my current car. Having saying that I love love love your bags, and I say good shoes are worth it! I also a bag fanatic, it's the joy, just value the items you have now and just add a fewer things every now and again.
I definitely keep track, not just luxury, but all expenses. I’ve been having this OCD for the last 20+ years, consistently. 😅 I like this type of content to cool me down. Thank you!
Hey, in my opinion, that's the best way to utilize OCD! And I'm glad you find this content helpful - it cools me to down to watch videos like these too so I figured why not throw mine in the mix! Thank you for watching!
Great minds, I recently also calculated the total $ spent on my bag collection as a way to stop myself from purchasing more bags that I don't need. Including taxes, my collection (7 bags) costs $5625.94, and the 3 designer ones cost almost $5000. And I say this as someone who's not even that into bags (I spend way more on clothes and shoes). While that number is probably lower than most luxury influencers' on UA-cam, but I doubt it's below average for the US population (would love to know what an average person spends on bags/clothes)? Love your financial talk videos, helps me stop impulse buys when I'm weak. Perhaps you can share some strategies for dealing with buying impulses?
I know what you mean, it's easy to feel like this is the norm, when it's really not - I'm glad you find these videos helpful! I do them as much to remind myself too haha. Funny you mention it, I do have a video coming soon on that topic! 😀 thank you again for watching 🥰
I have the same bags like you and just starting my Hermes journey. I have spent about $16700 already. I also have a UA-cam channel perhaps we can collaborate sometime. 😃great video about expenses, I do also track my expenses.
I like the men’s polo shirt I would get one for my husband I’ve spent a lot in Hermes and other designer stores and it does add up 😅 I’m scared to add it all up 😂
We all need these type of reality checks. Thank you for your brute honesty!

The equestrian polo fits your husband really well!
I know! Much better than their regular polos. I just wish they would release them in more colors, like a dark green, etc.

He's wearing a XXL! PS. he's 6 ft and about 195 lbs. The equestrian polos do run a lot slimmer compared to the regular mens polo....

Is your husband wearing a Medium Polo? I would like to gift my partner that same polo, and he's about the same build.

I don't even Wang to admit how many bags I actually own let along count the dollars.
Thanks for being open regarding your purchase history. I’m scared to review my total as well 🥺
Thank you I need the wake up call as well since I’m a Hermes fan 😂
I wish I could say I'm not still constantly on their website seeing what bags will drop hahaha...

I honestly think the polos are so worth it! And i know what you mean...that's why I stopped at Hermes hahahaha....
That’s a crazy amount, but then we can consider that some people buy that much in a Day 🫣
Oh I know! I am not one of those people that can afford to do that haha!
