You can use a piece of foam board to “sand” the rough edges of your foam board. I’m so impressed with your measuring and cutting skills.

  • @0111vramj

have tried this in the past some things work well, but others not so great. any pressure, or pushing that bends the board can render the whole thing "broken". Some can be shored up with another piece of foamboard strip to fortify the bend. If you really want to make your projects fancy you can cover them with contact paper! If you are doing a lot with foamboard you will LOVE Logan FoamWerks foamboard tools!

You are so lucky to have your own crafting room! I love it! This way you can keep all of your little treasures in a one place!
I had to buy the black foam poster boards when I moved into my apartment, used it on my windows ……( after being in a house for over 30years ) because the flood lights and street lights were like a beacon in my bedroom!

We use black foam boards to cut the outside lights too, and white ones during the day as a privacy screen/ heat deflector that still lets some daylight in.

Sobo Glue was required at my college architecture studio when building models out of foam core. It dries clear. I highly recommend. One more tip, use a corked back straight edge to slice your foam board to prevent slipping and cutting yourself or your plastic scale.

I am excited about the bulletin board idea! I've still got the one I bought in college (class of 1976!) at our family message station and it is WHIPPED. Problem is ... I'm allergic to cork now, so I can't replace it. Or I thought I couldn't. Thanks so much for showing me I can!
I'm also going to make a bin for the back of my silverware drawer. I love the divided bin I bought for the metal flatware, which fits beautifully across the width, but is a few inches less deep, so it's always sliding. It's a good spot to stick the plastic flatware we accumulate with carry out though; with a foam core box to fit the space, I can have the plastic corralled and the metal bin stay put. :)
One additional thought ... when hubby changed a light fixture in the kitchen, we ended up with a gap in the sheet rock just below the upper cabinets over the sink. I cut a strip of foam core to fit the space, about 3" wide, and covered it with the same fabric I used for my kitchen curtains, then just glued it up. It's been there for years and still looks good. I realized this morning that I like it better than I would have liked the wood trim I originally wanted hubby to put there.

Have you considered using contact paper to cover/line the foam board and make it wipeable? And more waterproof (within reason😉)
Is there an easy way to smooth out the rough edges of the cut foam board?
I cut it to size and use the foam board to line wire shelving in my pantry. It created a flat surface so that the items sitting atop it don’t wobble around🙂

  • @rebekahbardsley5947

    Hi Shannon,
Before you said how .much foam board you used I was thinking 6 to 7. I have never worked with foam board but the other day on Pinterest I saw a reel. Where the young woman (wife and mom) had the same metal stacks in her linen closet as me. She measured the length and width and covered the foam board with peel and stick wallpaper. She also bent down about 2 inches to hide the underside of the rack. I already have had a blue paisley peel and stick.
My kitchen drawers are the standard depth and standard deepness but, not the width. My drawers are little. 6 inches wide and I have 8. One is a junk drawer (batteries, command strips, etc). For my silverware I have bought hard plastic utensils drawers by a company called Gizmo. The silverware but, my one drawer with knives, serving spoons other items would be great decided up. Then if your looking something you will not be nicked by a knife or something else.
Regarding the risers, I am redoing my sewing area right now and I think a riser to group my green threads together or all the other colors would be wonderful. I am not the greatest with measuring but, would aim to try my best . I love making this divider yourself. It seems as though my Amazon items are disappearing so fast between receiving the photograph on my phone to my going to my apartment door literally in an hour. The last item stolen I was very down about and the painter took it who painted the apt across the hall. I wanted to make Valentine's candles for family. All the wax and wicks were bought but I added the heart trays from Amazon. I couldn't make my gifts. With foam board I can pick it up and bring it home. Great ideas Shannon.
    Love, Rebekah
