New angel for the video :-) good choices sir! Thanks very much. I’ve been doing videos for about a month now almost at 30, but this is my first tag. It was great to do, and I look forward to watching others. Again thanks Chris (sp) sorry if that’s the wrong way of spelling your name. And I appreciate the talent of later Bee Gees, but man the stuff on that album and from that era rivals most of the music at that time. We have a similar favourite as well, I’m not sure you’ve watched mine, but it is one I thought of pretty quick while putting my replies together. And I did take the liner notes challenge :-)
Wow I totally missed your submission! Thanks for letting me know. Ok I’ve just subbed to you. I’ve got some catching up to do as well. I’m back to work today but will catch up on your videos when I have a chance. Thanks for letting me know and I’m glad you’ve decided to jump in!
You gave us some really thoughtful choices. The Basement Tapes is an album that would be cool to walk into. The hardest question is the one about what country you would listen to the music from if you had to choose. That's a tough one. Lol. Happy New Year!
Hi Melinda! I agree I really had a tough time with the country question and the decade question. Of course there are so many countries that have provided us with some amazing music, I know if I excluded all but one I would inevitably miss all of the others. Fun to think about though. Thanks so much for watching and Happy New Year!
Well done, Chris, great response! You got yours out on the first, awesome. I have never seen Unicorn before. What a great cover! I always tell people not to sleep on early Bee Gees. Those early records have some really great songs. You and I have talked before on Crime of the Century. You are right that it could be a greatest hits just from how well we know it. So good. That record bag looks nice. Looks like it holds 20-30 records. Do you take that with you on digs? Frumpy are great, those first couple of albums especially, but they still elude me on vinyl. Maybe this will be the year I find some Frumpy. I'm happy to have been one of the participants in your liner notes challenge. Fun video! Take care.
It was great to see you do the Liner Notes Challenge Bill and I really appreciated it. The record bag was a gift from my fiancé a couple years ago and I definitely take it on digs with me. It holds about 20 records for sure. I also take it as a carry on bag when I fly just in case I do any digging when I’m travelling 😂 Thanks Bill!
So Ive pulled my records. Ready to make my video once the kid goes to bed so I watch yours. Basement Tapes, Jagged Little Pill….great now I have to change my answers. Thanks for that.
This vinyl tag introduced me to your channel. The Witch album sounds interesting. I will definitely check that out. How is that I've never heard that Frumpy album? The German prog rock genre is a deep well of great music.
German Prog/ Krautrock is really so interesting and yes, there is so much to explore. Just about everything I have heard, I have liked. Thanks for stopping by the channel and I hope to see and hear more from you! Cheers.
Into the wild! Right on. Subbed up. This was excellent man. Great albums. Well done. Look forward to exploring all your videos. Similar tastes for sure.
@@StylusMeetsVinyl No problem Chris! I've been thinking of my answers all week for this one. I was out for a run earlier this morning and came up with a couple of other ideas. Stay tuned!
The Bob Dylan and The Band album cover would indeed be a great one to be a part of. Maybe the best response to this question I've seen so far. Good job!
Lazy Bones by Witch is a great choice. I need to pick up that record. In the past when I couldn’t answer a vinyl tag question I would just make one up. That Dillon video was a great video. Unicorn is an interesting choice. I have never seen that record.
Hey Rich. When I saw that Unicorn album I was drawn to the artwork. Once I read the back and saw David Gilmour’s name I had to grab it. It was a nice little discovery. Dillon has a lot of great videos and his channel just hit 100K subs. Wow! Amazing for him. I discovered Witch through watching his channel. Thanks for checking out my tag. I’ve got yours in my Watch List but I’m at work now and need to be a little bit productive haha. Happy New Year!
Hey Chris. Pretty solid choice with Sabbath on their first 2 releases. Great Hayes album - nice choice. I need some Frumpy. German prog rarely disappoints. I'd love to see you do (even now) a top 10 albums you listen to the most. Always great to watch, and, in the coming days, will be a nice break from the onslaught of 2024 tag videos. Giv'r! Love Witch's first album. Need to pick up Lazy Bones. I thought about the Basement Tapes for an album to dive into as well, but ended up going with something else. Such interesting characters. This is the first time I've one of your videos. Definitely coming back.
Thank you very much! I do appreciate it. So far Lazy Bones is the only Witch album I’ve heard. Just snippets of other songs on other albums but it all sounds good to me. I’ve got more exploring to do. Thanks for stopping by!
Hey Chris, nice entries. Alanis Morisette IS a 90s classic, never heard of that early-70s German prog rock record you showed though, will check this one out. Cheers
great choices. I finally got around to doing this myself recently on my channel, I'm a little late to the party. I'm catching up on all the videos out there. Love that Iron Butterfly poster. Strangely enough I don't have Thriller on vinyl.
Hi Chris - I was sure I commented here, but it looks like I was wrong. Anyway, great video. Your dinner party sounds like it would be very interesting. I do not have Thriller! I almost chose Crime of the Century, for my yet-to-be-made video.
Great answers there Chris. Yeah I think England would be my country of choice as well. There's so many top tier bands from there and plenty lesser well known ones as well. That would apply to most genres of music. Nice choice with the album cover to be in, plenty of interesting characters.
Happy New Year. Great response Chris! I’ve not heard of Now and Again but will definitely check them out. I’d like to add some Zamrock to my collection. That undercurrent compilation sounds like it would be a great listen. Alan is Morissette! Classic! Have a great 2024!
The Undercurrent album was a really cool find and it is indeed a nice listen. Not bad for the 50 cents I paid for it at the thrift! Thanks for watching! Oh and just to be clear- NowAgain was the label that pressed the Zamrock album. The album title is Lazy Bones from the band Witch. Happy Listening and Happy New Year!
Witch was such a great band, so happy they've reissued their albums. Haha, I also selected the Bee Gees for a Manchester band. Crime of the Century was a great choice. Come to think of it, it may have been my choice for that question as well. At the moment I don't remember.
Oh, man! I've heard of Witch but I haven't heard their music. I took to it Britain versus Canada, too. But I choose Canada because I am always on the hunt for Canadian bands and I love so much of what I found. Still, I'd be giving up a lot of favourite bands from the U.K. Matthew Good Band! Nice!!
There is some really great Canadian bands that just don’t get their due in other parts of the world. At least we get to enjoy them. And yes- MGB! I’ve seen MG live many times. Rock on man, thanks for stopping by!
I didn't just watch the beginning, but I like WITCH too. I don't have Lazy Bones yet, I have Introduction which came with the Zamrock boxset and I got the new WITCH album Zango which came out last year.
Matthew Good Band! I discovered them in 2018 thanks to UA-cam... I'm from the states so i haven't been exposed to them before... but i think Matthew Good has alot of good stuff!
Hey there! MG and the MGB have some great selections in their catalogue. Some are stronger than others but I definitely would recommend Underdogs (MGB 1997), Beautiful Midnight (MGB 1999), The Audio of Being (MGB 2002), Avalanche (MG solo 2003), White Light Rock and Roll Review (MG 2004) and Vancouver (MG 2009) - all worth checking out, in my opinion. Thanks for stopping by and dropping a comment! Cheers man.
Great video! Some of these questions are difficult to answer, like if you could only listen to music from one decade or one country. I think I'd have to pick the 1960s because of the Kinks, Who, Beatles, Stones, Small Faces, Dylan, The Band, Byrds, Love, Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, CCR, Davey Graham, John Fahey, Bert Jansch, John Rebourn, Pentangle, Fairport Convention. Plus I think the 60s was the greatest decade for jazz. And I don't know how I'd give up Bob Dylan, The Band and Ry Cooder but I think I might pick England, with all the British Invasion bands and Traffic, Nick Drake, Jethro Tull, Richard Thompson, Robyn Hitchcock, Ian Hunter, XTC, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Radiohead. I think my favourite record I purchased in 2023 was Third Mind 2 (and their first album was one of my favourites from 2020). And I might have listened to Bob Dylan the most in 2023, because he released a lot of music: Shadow Kingdom, Fragments - the 4 LP box set of the Time Out Of Mind sessions, and a "new" double album recorded at Budokan in 1978. I love your answer about the Basement Tapes, I don't think I can top that! Maybe I'd step into the cover of The Waterboy's Fisherman's Blues, and hang out with the band on the west coast of Ireland!
I agree with you about the two hardest questions. No matter what you choose, you’re leaving so much great music on the table. I thought about choosing the 60s too but I don’t listen to much before 1965 and I’m not really into much jazz so I had to go with the 70s. And every country has really amazing music. Tough choices! You’ve piqued my interest with Third Mind. I’ve never heard of them but I’ll check them out on Spotify. And yes that Basement Tapes album has a lot going on- I thought about also choosing the Woodstock album so then I could say that I was there! Thanks for your thoughtful response AG.
@@StylusMeetsVinyl Third Mind was put together by Dave Alvin. He was inspired by Miles Davis' approach to some late 60s albums like Bitches Brew, where he brought musicians together and just started playing, with no rehearsal, and then edited the long jams into shorter songs. Alvin thought it would be fun to take that approach with some of his favourite 60's songs: East-West by Butterfield Blues Band, Reverberation by the 13th Floor Elevators, Dolphins by Fred Neil. Incredible musicianship all around, but especially the guitar playing. It's very unlike Alvin's records with the Blasters and his solo records (country-rock, folk, blues). This is psychedelic and very spontaneous. I heard about it from Glen Kellaway and from Erwin at across.the.borderline (when Erwin had an English-language channel. Now he has a German channel).
Well done Chris. Hard to believe it's only been two years since you started this. Here's my stab at the 20 questions. 1. Favourite record you purchased in 2023 = Grim Reaper ~ Bleed Em Dry/For Demo Only 2. The last record you bought in 2023 = Helms Deep ~ Treacherous Ways 3. A band or singer who released 2 or more albums in the same year = Emerson, Lake & Palmer ~ Tarkus/Pictures At An Exhibition 4. If you could only listen to music from one decade which decade would you choose? ~ 1980's (or the 70's) 5. Show a record by a band or singer from Manchester = A-II-Z ~ The Witch Of Berkeley 6. Which band or singer did you listen to the most in 2023? = Satan 7. Show seven 7 inch records = I could, but I won't waste your time...your welcome, LOL 8. Who’s coming to your party ? Choose 4 music related people to come to an imaginary dinner party , past or present who would you invite ? = ELP and Steve Howe 9. We lost them in 2023. = Algy Ward (Tank) 10. If you could only listen to music from 1 country which would it be? = England 11. Name some new vinyl community channels you discovered in 2023 = In all honesty, none 12. Show a record you bought when you were a teenager. = my first purchase, This Is The Moody Blues 13. Show a funk or soul record. = I got nuthin'!!! I don't listen to that stuff. I do have a War ~ Anthology CD thats kinda cool 14. One record everybody has and one record nobody has. = Dark Side of The Moon and nothing, all my records are fairly common 15. She’s great .. A record by a female artist you bought in 2023 = Nothing. Really don't like female singers 16. The favourite video you posted on your channel in 2023 and the favourite video you watched on the VC in 2023.= Once again, I got nuthin' 17. Show me a record you’d describe as a 90s classic = Megadeth ~ Rust In Peace 18 . If I could walk into the cover- look through your collection and choose a record cover you’d like to be a part of. = Yes ~ Relayer 19. It’s like a greatest hits .. show a record you’re so familiar with with that it feels like a greatest hits. = Raven ~ Live At The Inferno 20. Show me a album that was released in 1974 and is turning 50 this year. = Focus ~ Hamburger Concerto
Hey Frank! Interesting dinner party. I’ve still got to add This Is The Moody Blues to my collection (I was listening to To Our Children’s Children’s Children just the other day). I think that War album could be a little funky so I think it counts. And Rust In Peace is a nice choice for a classic album! Thanks for playing along even though you weren’t able to answer all of the questions fully. Nice to hear from you and happy spinning this year Frank!
Vinyl Tag looks like fun but is it only for people that have a UA-cam channel. I have a few albums that I really enjoy and which other "average Joe subscribers" might want to check out. I would also like to see what others are buying. Some questions don't pertain to me at all. I might be better off answering a top 10 thread.
This year’s questions were definitely geared more toward UA-camrs, and harder for other VC members to answer if you didn’t have a channel. But people can still play along and answer the questions that they can. I’m sure you’ve got some really cool unique records in your collection Terry!
The Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester until the late 1950s and started playing music there before moving to Australia. I don’t have a variety of Manchester acts in my collection to choose from. These guys fit the answer the best I can do based on what I have. That’s why I chose them.
Far from stupid. Andy Gibb was born in Manchester while the family was living there in the late 50's. The younger boys were such tearaways that it was actually the local Police Constable who recommended sponsored immigration to Australia to Hugh because otherwise the boys were going to get into serious trouble. They came out to Australia on the same boat as Kylie Minogues' parents. They settled just down the road from me.
Love me some Steve and Alex. Thanks for the shout out. Odyssey and Oracle, so good, as is Out of the Blue. Hope to meet up later in the year buddy!
Me too Sam. Thanks for watching!

Its akways fun to take a stab at the vinyl tag.
Happy New Year Chris. Keep up the good work!
You look like Ted Bundy
The most handsome of all the serial killers. Thank you.
Better than looking like Al Bundy!
😂
Bee Gees? Manchester??? That is stupid.
Hey man. My channel is about positivity and good vibes only. Have a good day ✌️
The Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester until the late 1950s and started playing music there before moving to Australia.
