- The tugboat Ger-Ant ( www.ger-ant.nl ) was chosen as Tugboat of the Year 2018 at the Sleepbootdagen in Zwartsluis. She was built in 1934 as the Grace de Dieu at Shipyard De Hoop of Tijssen Bros. in Leiden for skipper Kobus de Bont from Maasbracht. Since 2005, Jan and Mirjam Verhoef are the owners. In the engine room stands an Industrie 2D6 from 1959 of 110 hp. ‘Of the 2D6 only eleven were built between 1956 and 1963 and I know five that are still in use,’ tells skipper Jan Verhoef. The 2D6 was used as main engine, like on small inland tankers as the Shell 47 en Shell 48, but also as auxiliary engine on large seagoing ships. The 2D6 on the Ger-Ant comes out of the sand ship Vios. ‘It has a cylinder size of 35 liters. Nevertheless, the fuel consumption isn’t more than that of a Golf diesel. Four to five liters per hour. This engine runs at 500 revs max. Compared to car engines, that’s very slow. Stationary, cars already run at 700 to 800 revs. That means that when you sail at 300 to 400 revs, there’s ample time to fully burn the fuel. As you can see, there’s absolutely no smoke from the funnel of the Industrie.’ The impression of the interviewer that Industrie engines aren’t that rare at all, is nuanced by skipper Verhoef. ‘At tugboat events you see a lot of Industrie engines, but those are mostly the smaller models. The larger models have all been scrapped. Not because they didn’t work anymore, but often for economic reasons. the smaller models are being cherished at the moment.’ Skipper Verhoef takes us sailing on the Lek near Culemborg and makes a couple of pretty pirouettes on the Redichemse Waard. Jochem van Riet of North Sea Service ( northseaservice.nl ) lent his motor yacht as a filming platform. Arno Koningstein of the launch boat company Cruise With Us ( www.cruisewithus.nl ) praises the Industrie 2D6.

You can see the amount of weight in that flywheel when it starts up! ☺
Love it! At 4:59 that immense flywheel turns clockwise and the whole ship rolls to port. That's a lot of mass.
One of the best episodes I've watched so far. The skipper was very knowledgeable. Beautiful old tug and Industrie engine.
Zoooon bloed mooie dame....ai ai ai doet pyn aan mn ogen
Thanks for English subtitles. Beautiful boat and engine.
I don't pretend to be able to speak Dutch, but I have enjoyed watching enough of these videos to recognize the "What do you have for a motor?" and the horsepower question. The English subtitles are wonderful
What a beautiful little tug, love the engine too!
Beautiful engine sound !
I am finding these videos so enlightening. Preserving these vessels is so important to educate the young people on how things were done years ago. I often wonder what you do with these vessels in the winter months.
🇺🇸 Magnificent Vessel & Thanks for sharing
Dit slepertje draait op een dubbeltje! Fantastisch!👍😄😄
Prachtig stukkie techniek ...met liefde verzorgd. Veel plezier ...schippers 😉 ..✌
Really good to see the return of the English sub titles. Thank you for these great videos.
When hit jackpot, will flying to Nederland for one decent collection.
Loving these old-fashioned built they lasting for generations. Great engineering and dedicating Nederland citizens to keeping these national prides.
Wat een geweldig mooi scheepje
Fantastic vessel!
My dreamboat!
Mooi schip, fine motor, goede video.
POAH!!! mooi ding.
This is fantastic! Keep them coming. Greetings from Malta.
Fantastic!
Saw the roof of our house in the back ground!
Keep it up! Wonderfull documents!
Did you hire a blind roofer to work on it?
What a beautiful looking and sounding boat!
My style of boat!
To an old gearhead there is no better music that a well tuned and cared for slow running engine. Really got a kick on how the ship heeled over the side with starting torque.
And stopping.
Super Video 👍
Thank you for share, awesome, greetings from Brazil.
Ik vind dit zo mooi 😍
Sure runs clean. No smoke at all on start up
I was only 6 years or less old when I sail these kind of and so memories. I sail Kemi-Oulu Finland. Ps. I also fly and I love Tupolev ;)
Beautiful industrie 2d6, I find it curious, because I had never seen one, the ones I have seen the most are 2D4 and 2D41.
Fkn awesome! ik kan zo intens genieten van van die langzaamlopers :)
Prachtig
Felicitaciones por un hermoso barco y un motor fantástico ¡¡¡.
I just went to Google Earth to Culemborg and you can see this little Tugboat there at the dock. :-)
Heerlijk motorgeluid
Is it the intake valves that open together, or the exhaust? It appears able to turn in its own length - does it have some sort of 'thrusters' or is the rudder able to turn to 90 degrees?
No, it is one intake that opens together with one exhaust valve.
This boat has no thrusters, thankfully
How much did you pay for it?
Zet alstublieft een keer zo’n plofkap tegen de wind op de microfoon
now we're 'GONNA' lube...'GONNA'?? Perhaps you meant: GOING TO? enough with the Americanisms...!!! Lovely ship and motor...and it sounds SO good!
Yes, but 'gonna' is shorter.
500 RPM redline! Lmao
