    very fun winter pass time projects.

    Looks like a good deal to me. Tinkering with old surplus is at least half the fun! One of the best parts about those rifles is that when you get them cleaned up you can easily get 7.62 Nato ammo for them.
    Not to sound like a "Bubba", but they would make a great hunting rifle as is.

      @The_Casual_Collector  2 місяці тому +1

      I totally agree. I love fixing up old firearms. Yep, 7.62 is easily found and much more common than 8mm. They would definitely make a good hunting carbine.

      Thank you sir, you're exactly right, it's a very cool, unique "transitional" rifle. BTW, if you're planning on getting one, grab a stock from RTG Parts first, they had 26 in stock when I bought my 2, unboxing coming up next week or so when I get them. They were $199 for nos stocks sets.

  • @chopper7352
    @chopper7352 2 місяці тому

    Agree...that's a couple of good scores with those FR-8's when you can swap in some good (new old stock) Stock sets from a separate supplier. Not sure if it's you plan...but looks the perfect deal to fix them up & keep the best one & sell the other (at some point in future) for a handy profit to cover costs (or close to) that the 2 of them cost you (inc new stocks).
    I use to own a really nice FR-8 many years ago (25+ years back). Really wish I'd held onto her given how relatively rare they are in Australia.

    • @The_Casual_Collector
      @The_Casual_Collector  2 місяці тому +1

      Wow, very cool! You had one in Australia? Yeah, I'd say that's rare. I know what you're referring to with the NOS stocks, I found some at RTG Parts and purchased 2 for $199 each. I think less than $300 for a complete FR-8 is pretty darn good. Thanks for watching and sharing!

      To each their own I guess, the bores are good and I got them knowing full well they would be projects, which I enjoy. One a side note the bores are good which is much more than I can say about an FN 49 I had gotten from RTI which was advertised as a good bore...I couldn't even see down it when I unboxed it...it promptly got sent back.

    88 is a good deal, IMO. The one I have wasn’t a project but I must’ve paid something between 400 and 500 (don’t recall exactly). Since it’s only 200 for a NOS stock, the potential to be way ahead is definitely there.

      Yes sir, I thought so too, I purchased two stocks, I'll do an unboxing when I get them in to show the condition. 400-500 is a pretty good price for a nice complete one.

      @@The_Casual_Collector smart to do, I always Check them on older milsurp rifles. Had a bolt fail on me once even after I checked it’s headspacing! Got me a face full of hot gas and little bits of cartridge casing. Chamber was a little too close to NO-GO and the cartridge cases were just a wee bit short according to the smith that examined the evidence. Full head separation, he had to extract the case from the chamber.

    • @The_Casual_Collector
      @The_Casual_Collector  2 місяці тому +1

      I honestly have no idea what you should pay on shipping, they usually just do it by the weight and zip code, to the best of my knowledge. I would recommend you do like I and @robertsonwilliam573 do and keep calling until you can get James and speak to him. I wish I could order one for you, but I can't. That would violate the regulations of my C&R FFL, as I'm "not to be engaged in the business of buying and selling firearms" with it. All I can say is keep trying to get James on the phone.

    • @robertsonwilliam573
      @robertsonwilliam573 2 місяці тому

      @@The_Casual_Collector I've called over two dozen times in a day or gotten him on the first ring. You never know. Shipping cost has also varied for me quite a bit but usually falls within 20-30 per long gun. Shipping times are totally unknown. 6 weeks seems pretty common but that is no guarantee. I have a shipment of FR7's that I ordered a couple weeks before Casual Collector ordered his fr8's and I still don't have them. The last order I did receive came after bi-weekly follow ups to check in on it and about two or three weeks after they told me it was shipping out. One time I got a tracking number but that was because my order had been outstanding for several months and they wanted to reassure me. James handles the orders more than the shipping and is a good guy to work with. Just realize that you are buying project guns at dealer prices direct from a volume importer and it is going to be a different experience.
