Last year playing a podcast loudly on my phone chased away big herd of wild pigs that was bumping around my tent. I'm glad I brought it. Yelling at them did not work but an interview did :-)
oh i just knew the Schill Brothers chain saw video was going to come up 😂😂 in their defense though they did get a late start on that trip , they weren’t hiking to far and it was brutally cold that night 🥶🥶 so they needed to process a lot of wood as fast as they could and it was a fun kinda tongue in cheek video so they’re forgiven yeh 😉 nice informative video as always … thanks for sharing 👍👍
Hot tenting is a different animal and I don't reside in an area where that would even be necessary. So, no comment in that regard. I am old school and although I do obviously have electronics, I really use a map more. (The NatGeo maps are great for planning trips). Do I have Alltrails on my phone ? Yes. In camp I tend to read one of those old fashioned book thingys, so I never utilize my phone for much beyond taking pictures or maybe double-checking something. During the Summer months, esp. when beach camping, I have also taken a fan. For scaring away animals I understand AC/DC is ideal.
BACKPACKING CHALLENGE: Do a hike without any electronics... (ok bring video equipment to prove you did it).... but no Garmin, no headlamps, no iPhone except to record pics/video, only a use paper map. Do that as a video and let us know how things went. Extra points if your video and pics are in black and white.
Hi Friends . To what your were saying about the air pump. I hate the sound but i love the convenience lol I have the Thermarest air pump and its sooo good. 8 years old now. The plastic is falling apart and its all covered in tape to hold the battery in. Any recommendations out there for a new one. I would prefer a chargeable model. Sincerely Toots :)
My only comment is that i feel some folks miss the hike while they are working hard to record their hike. Forgive me, but i dont want to hear reruns of taxi while i am hiking.

It seems that most don't realize how easily sound travels over water when near lakes .... if you have to listen to an audio devise ,, use headphones or earbuds ,, absolutely leave the external speakers at home ..
Nice video. I expect you'll have quite a few responses in regard to the chainsaw section. Personally, I would never consider a hot tent for backpacking, too much work, weight, and extra calories. For base camping (especially with a pulk) I find a battery operated saw to be an efficient use of weight and calorie management vs work in cold temps for 1-3 people. The amount of wood processing required for winter temps is a considerable load for smaller groups.
Oh well I could always be wrong. I'm sure your correct in your own area and activities. I fact it would be awesome if you could make a fun informational video? Then we could see what you mean and demonstrate the skills to do it.

You didn't mention the drone and all kinds of cameras/video equipment that some UA-camrs bring.

Agreed. You shouldn’t have to hear any noise coming from electronic devices of others.
