This is great stuff guys! In regard to establishing empathy and mystery, I've always felt that games with a strong inciting incident really hook me into the story within the first 5 to 25 minutes. One example is Dishonored - different genre entirely but it applies - the first chapter provides an empathetic situation (watching an innocent person killed) and a mystery (who did it and why did they set you up as the perpetrator). You have everything you need to know to get going! It's economical storytelling and it isn't relying 100% on mystery of being thrown into an unrelatable, chaotic narrative. Looking forward to more content!
