- The future looks deader than ever after Evil Dead Rise's successful opening weekend. Director Lee Cronin stopped by IGN to explain how a key scene from 1992's Army of Darkness not only served as inspiration for how Rise could stand on its own, but for how to explain future spinoffs in the series. Plus, Cronin teases his conversations with Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, which point to the potential of a team-up film between Ash Williams, the 2013 reboot's Mia, and the surviving characters of Evil Dead Rise.

An anthology movie with segments by each director, featuring each main character, with them all three eventually meeting and battling the ultimate deadite.
Do what fear street did and make 3 movies out of it
Ash already fought the Kandarian demon at the end of Ash vs Evil Dead
Bruce already confirmed is passed evil dead shows/ movies. Without bruce not a lot of folks are gonna jump to see it.
@@mrdntgetshot2759 that too. And unfortunately we never got that post apocolypes evil dead which would had been a dope horror action adventure right next Army of Darkness.
Like Evil Dead Endgame. Bring all the surivoring heroes to defeat evil once and for all.
This just gave the Evil Dead franchise even more life especially that Evil Dead Rise movie. The book itself never was truly explored. Anybody who watched army of darkness might have assumed the three books were only there to trick ash. But it appears each book is its own adaption
Pretty sure they were only there to trick Ash. But Cronin changed the narrative.
@talonmage40k yeah. One bites him lol.
They were there to trick Ash, this doofus just decided to retcon the lore...
@rawr This doofus is backed by Sam and Bruce sooooo.....
@@DivineNaruto The Evil Dead franchise was a significant part of their lives, and that's what they're backing. Fede Alvarez had high regard for the source material when he directed the 2013 remake. He consulted with Sam and Bruce to explain his vision for the film and sought their input. This DOOFUS just wanted to hijack an existing IP to carry his ideas.
Imagine getting an artbook with details from the three Necronomicon, it'd be such an amazing treat
A wonderful treat.
A F**ked up treat
What about some models, or replicas?
This man understands evil dead! Ash didnt sleep for like 3 days with each movie taking place the consecutive day... it was just none stop
This is a real interesting way to go about evil dead hopefully the next one brings out more deadites and monstrosities out of the book
all the books are there so idk they would have to bring either this one fede Alvarez or the original back to do something so idk
Keep in mind that each book had tons of pages there is room in all of them more monsters for sure.
The Evil Dead universe is doing what is rarely achieved. Its building itself up with one great hit after another.
Best horror in a while - most demons (in movies) sneak around doing small annoying things (like cockroaches) until the end of the movie.. This Demon was ALL BUSINESS from the start! Loved that!
Those are Bible demons, Kandarian demons are Lovecraftian.
In Evil Dead Rise *SPOILER* they explored a bit with the records, on could you beat the Kandarian demon by perfroming Christian style exorcism, what ended up was all the priests got turned into deadites and the final resort was bodily dismemberment.
Watch Demons 2
Worst horror movie in a while
@@tristanhogue4690 you must not have seen any of the horror movies that came out in the last 4 years lol
@@WeirdEdz You only like this movie because your standards are low
Can't wait to see what's next from Lee Cronin! Amazing director!
The sound design is a really important part and it was a great experience in the theatre.
Love the 15 minutes later concept.
That's awesome.
reminds me of the non-stop nature of "24" - the main character never got a second of rest
Cept they capped it off by sending the demon to the lake for a few days
@@emosam07 We don't know what happened between the hours of Beth getting out of the building and that girl waking up and being possessed
@Leonardo Morsii not to beth directly but the dedite entered the next girl IN the parking garage before goin to the lake cabin.
Man the anthology idea sounds like a pretty great idea! Three directors of all the evil dead making their own spin in each chapter would be amazing, like basically scratching every kind of itch that each evil dead gave us
Give me the sequel that happens 15 minutes after Rise, PLEASE
maybe like a "Rec 2" type? because the building is now infested with deadites.
Yes we absolutely need to know what happens afterwards.
Each instalment is just one floor down lol
@@park3r61 would love that
@@park3r61 the building wasn’t the problem there’s barely anyone alive left in there , it’s the fact that the deadites are outside now during daytime cause of what we saw during the beginning
At this point it'd be a major tonal shift but as much as they use demons in Evil Dead I'm curious if there's a yin to that yang with more angelic beings in the Evil Dead too.
Well ash himself is a Jefe... which is a guardian angel and is even prophecised in the necronomicon
Just watch supernatural or lucifer for that.
For that to work They’d have to make the angels looney and zany too and have some crazy body horror to top it off
@@SifuSteve7I mean if we think about it like how Cronin thinks about it, like a twisted bible with different accounts. Then the writer of this necronomicon is particularly sadistic and vicious would be obsessed with attempting to murder its interpretation of saviour figures. Which could turn Beth into the most ruthless Jefa of the evil dead series 🤣
Would love to see a movie about the priests in early 1900s
That would be intriguing to see if it happens.
yes and apparently one of the recordings was voiced by Bruce and Bruce intended the voiceover to be Ash misplaced in time, warning them so that could crossover as well!
Lee has written and directed an amazing movie… one of my absolute favourite horror flicks to come along in a very long time
Incredible movie! Can’t wait to see the next instalment
Such a killer film, loved it
Yeah me too ❤
They should bring Ash back to guide her in other movies.
Bruce Campbell said he has retired as ash and will only play him if Sam Raimi directs
@@NickJR528 sounds like we can get Bruce and Sam back in one easy move then.
@@dylanricher4333 You can't force Sam Raimi to direct if he doesn't want to
@@NickJR528 you can’t force anyone to do anything they don’t want to do. Did he say he never wants to direct again or something?
He's gotta return to present day first. He's currently stuck in the future, or perhaps stuck in 1923 depending on when his Evil Dead Rise cameo takes place for Ash.
Can’t wait for the next one
love the way the book opens in this movie
Me too ❤
This is such a really cool idea
All great answers!!
Very interesting!
Not going to lie all that sounds great but the one that gets me giddy is the anthology movie with all three directors doing their own segment. That could be awesome. Like creep show but evil Dead
just make a TV show at that point
@@TalonNight Ash vs Evil Dead, no?
@@probot6515 it’s not an anthology tho
WE NEED A TRILOGY !!!
Bring back Ash and the two girls and make a series finale movie.
Evil dead is an endless franchise
Evil Dead Franchise got real lucky getting this guy to do the film. Definitely gonna be more films.
Yo it would be cool if the next one had a person using the books for their own gain basically a necromancer.
Looks like there was another spot on the pedestal for a fourth book
Wow 😮I didn’t know this
Fede Alvarez Evil Dead was amazing
Obviously of dubious canon, but in the alternate ending of AOD, the 2000s video games and the comic is that no matter what Ash does eventually the necronomicon is published and begins an apocalypse on Earth
Oh if he does a sequel do it like that she goes to the cops she’s hysterical and while she’s explaining a cop walks in from the scene at the apartment carrying the book and she freaks out then they take the book to evidence and one cop or two decide to open it causing the police station to be the next carnage scene awesome set pieces cause the evidence room would have tons of weapons plus cops have weapons in the station!
Omg that reminds me of one of my favourite episodes of supernatural. In that episode, they start locking the possessed in the jail cells but eventually unassuming cops let them out and they get overrun.
I'll watch this for sure but an attack on precinct 13 type sequel, sounds amazing.
He's like an Irish Paulie Shore
Had always thought the other two books in Army of Darkness were fakes to protect the real book.
They were, the 3 books is a new idea that evil dead rise made up.I’m hoping they do get to explore more of the 3 books cause it sounds like a cool idea
They were. But this director is a moron and makes really bad movies that dont make any sense
I'm not big on lore retcons but this is actually a brilliant way to expand the universe and continue the franchise that really works! I'm thinking it could be that the incantation was not just a way to break the book's protection but also reveal the book suited to the speaker's desire.
If it turns out that all three series are in the same timeline that would be awesome
SEE! 2013 is NOT A REMAKE!
We all knew that. Bruce's abandoned car is there, there a few key things that shows it interconnected. And his cameo post-credits
ok but an anthology movie with all 3 directors?
Demons are in for horror. We need an evil dead movie every other year!!
Did anyone else think by the thumbnail it was the guy from wizards of Waverly Place ?
Bring Fede’s book back.
Why doesn’t anyone listen to us; we all want 2013 Part 2!
Let’s pretend that didn’t happen
That movie had only gore and nothing else
Nah, don't want that. That movie was overly nasty and tried too hard.
@@excorsisam it had timing and intensity - both things the newest one lacked
@@oliver_liew the new one didn’t try enough. The 2013 version was the only version brave enough to try something different for this franchise - take it serious
This would be the only way keeping this movie alive 👍
BRING BACK THE DAMNNNNNNNNN SHOWWW!!!!!!
😮
Yes. To all. Take my money.
Why Ryan Gosling in this video?
Each book evolved from there.
who the hell is doing audio post production for these ign videos
It would be hilarious for Beth trying to explain throwing her sister, niece and nephew into a wood chipper only after chainsawing them….would just be amazing 😂
Bring all 3 books together
Anyone with revanced😎
Does this mean that the reboot movie isn't a reboot but just another story in the same universe?
it always was
It means they’re not doing an mcu where everything is connected linearly. Instead it’s a franchise where they’re given creative liberties to improve the IP regardless of continuity
If only the books in AoD were actually (visually) different.
DO NOT MAKE ASH VS EVIL DEAD NON-CANON!
There were three necronomicons as a test for Ash who had to pick the right one. They never gave us the idea they were all three actual copies. Why would they all be in one place if they were legitimate, it doesn’t make any sense.
It only doesn't make sense bcuz that angle has yet to be explored. Just now scratching the surface of that possibility
Having all three books there to mess with Ash made sense. Had Ash chosen the wrong book, he would unleashed another horror.
Why wouldn't it make sense?
The church rounded them up at some point and locked them away so they wouldn't be used again.
"15 Minutes later" that is kinda mean to Beth.
the guy use the book in 5 sec.. and suddenly has a cd.. lol
Yeah army of darkness 2 happening but more to the present day
ANTHOLOGY!!!!!
Klatu verratta cough cough cough
Klatu Veratta NI-COUGH COUGH
But now fire doesn’t kill them, yeah okay buddy.
Did fire ever kill them beside that one scene in evil dead 2013? Actually the fire didn’t kill her, it was the shotgun.
They’re different Deadites, different rules. The ones from the first book are more sociopathic jokers who get joy from murder and mayhem with there being ways to beat them mainly through sheer will, the ones from the second book are essentially masochistic self mutilators and the ones from the third are essentially unstoppable blends of both types with no way of exorcising them
@@mrcritical6751 appreciate the comment, giving it a second watch improved my viewing of it
🤢 was worse than the last
The ending was same as the last evil dead movie 😂 girl drenched in blood holding a chainsaw
Dismembering bodies with a chainsaw and getting covered in blood while doing so is a staple of the Evil Dead franchise. What were you expecting?
Chainsaw kills are a staple of the franchise. This is like saying a star wars movie is bad because someone got killed by a lightsaber but it already happened in the last one.
@@obsidianwarrior5580 more like saying after the 6th starwars movie, they just started throwing all the bad guys down a shaft at the end of the movie
at least the final deadite was better then the 2013 one
Please don't Star Wars the Evil Dead...I'm not a fan of how popular it is now and don't want it over saturated in some effort for nerds to relive their youth. ED used to be great lesser known indie horror. Now it's internet trendy to be an ED fan.
Evil Dead is one of the most influential horror franchises out there.
How do you expect people not to like it after decades of movies, comics, cartoons, and games referencing it and drawing inspiration from it?
Uuuum are they forgetting ash vs the evil dead????
To my knowledge ash vs evil dead is canon to army of darkness where as this movie is canon to the first evil dead.
Don’t make more 😴🥱🥱
