Pruning a Quince Tree in August. Removing Branches. Chinchilla Cameo |Allotment Growing Enplotment.

The usual advice is to prune quince trees in winter when they are dormant. This quince tree didn't fruit this year and is a bit too tall and overgrown so we did it early to let some light onto the brassica bed over the next few months. It really made a difference to the shady area by the fruit bed.
This also allowed me to process a lot of the wood for my chinchillas - I normally buy big bags of properly processed apple wood, but according to some research, quince is a safe wood and after some work to make sure it was properly sterile, they really enjoyed their new nibble wood.

My allotment is usually lovely. My plants look somewhere between good and 'Oh dear'. If there is anything you'd like to see, fruit, flower or vegetable wise, please mention it in the comments and I will see what I can do - obviously within my capabilities.

Hi cara it's good to lift the skirt of the tree not only to rejuvenate but also light and air , our site brought in height restrictions nothing above 6 feet now but there plenty that are , hope your hands feel better soon , I've had to ware my hand strapes at work been waiting since before pandemic started for carpal ops on both hand . Yeah we have dwarf trees only rule, not sure the quince is listening, hence the chopping 😂. Hope you get the surgery soon. Mine are OK just now, but need to be careful not to strain them - wonky tendons everywhere but of course my hands get most use! I find the splint helps remind me and stops me getting caught up in doing things I'll later pay for. Tens machine helps with pain if you've not tried that.
