Great news Pete - congratulations on getting your Thai driving license. Did you go for both? Motorbike and also car ? Some of the other commenters here are complaining that you used an agent. Well, I used an agent and it was SUPER valuable because Thailand has the Depth Perception Test (DPT), which is part of the examination process for a Thai driving license at the Department of Land Transport (DLT). The test involves aligning a moving pin using special forward and back buttons. For the life of me, I could not pass the DPT - and this type of test I never had to do in the USA or in Europe - where I had previous driving licenses. Thanks to the agents intervention, I was able to get "special" kind assistance from one of the testing facility employees - who took pity on me and helped me to pass this depth perception test. I was never a big video game person and they give you this device where you need to move back and forth via buttons a pin into its proper place. I just could not do it. Without the agent - I would have not acquired my Thai car and motorbike driving licenses. Next month in September, I will go back to my agent to upgrade my soon to expire 2 year newbie licenses for their 5 year equivalents. I pray that there won't be the DPT - if yes, then I am quite sure that I will need "special" kind assistance again. For all of the other parts of the test, color blindness, reflex, and peripheral - I easily passed those parts without any kind assistance. Pete, did they make you do the Depth Perception Test with that crazy joy stick device ?
Congratulations Pete, you are finally getting to do big this where you live !! Koi' must be happy for you to be able to get aroud on your own . . . YEA' proud of you Neph !😊
Congratulations on Sjinawatra the newest Prime Minister of Thailand . . .37 years old, seems young for that position, but Thai people are very progressive. Here at home its all about defeating DJT making sure we have a democracy that will function. Good things though Pete, keep up the service to your non-profit organization! Good works are what will ensure a better tomorrow Neph
Hahaha I did a photoshoot there once. They only reason were weren’t bothered by the monkeys as they were swarming a group of tourists fleeing down the hill
Congratulations the first license is 2 years, if you are a good driver then you will get 5 years next time and no tests when you renew. That is the same thing I did for my car license, but because I did not have a motorcycle license, I had to do the videos to get the motorcycle license, in Thailand they are not the same and you get 2 different physical cards.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Yeah, I didn’t get the motorcycle license (but I also didn’t take any tests) I’ve got the 2 year date marked on my calendar so I don’t forget to renew it.
Hey Pete, saw you spent some of your life in San Pedro. A great little town amongst the sprall of Los Angeles. I have checked out a number if your vids and found them to be (for me) most interesting and informtive... Using an "agent" to expedite your drivers' license seems like a great idea- if for no other reason that to than to speed you through the process. I am licensed in the state of California for an automobile. My question is: Does such an "agent" exist if one only wants a motorbike license? FYI: I do not (presently) have a motorcylcle license in California. HOwvever, I have many years of 'bike' experience in my 20's and 30's. Any response is appreciated.
Thanks,I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel. I’m sure the agents can help you get a bike license but the process will be different (I believe) if you don’t have one from the states already. Having a valid license made it easier to get my DL here.
It was about 14,000 baht and I had it removed at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. From my understanding, it probably would’ve been a little cheaper if I went to either Pattaya Memorial or Pattaya International and definitely would’ve been cheaper at a government hospital like Bang Lamung.
Yeah, I should’ve. I use Tik Tok. It’s possible they gave me a deal since I just renewed my visa with them too. They also quoted 4,500 for the one day license trip to Rayong but I wanted to go to the local office.
I finally included some jazz, I had been looking for the right video! That’s Koi’s new Toyota. She has me driving about 20% of the time but she tries to get my to drive more. I’m still getting comfortable with the car and the craziness of driving out here. I don’t know anyone with pet monkeys but I’d have to think some people do in some rural areas. Did you know, my mom had one when she was a kid? I keep up a bit with Thai politics. I watch English run Thai news programs through out the week. Recent events are uh… yeah, but they aren’t unprecedented. I try not to speak about it publicly.
Tell me more about your mom’s monkey. (And I thought that you were your mom’s only monkey!) Driving on the left would take me some getting used to, even in a sedate traffic environment-let alone what you face.
@@Stashmo the monkey’s name was Judy and I think she was a spider monkey. It was probably more my grandmother Delores’s though. It was when they lived in Albuquerque and she said the native Americans would always try to barter to get Judy. They also had a pet raccoon for awhile. I got used to being on the left quick enough but found myself sitting too far left in lane too often. Now I hug the right side of the lane.
My philosophy is if you are retired in Thailand, don't drive a personal vehicle. I only know 3 other expats who don't 555. @@peteonretreat2023 another benefit of having a Thai driving license is that you can impress your Thai friends where sometimes if you show your Thai license you do not need to pay the farang price but you can instead pay the Thai price. I was fortunate to do this at the Pattaya Tower and my Thai friends were like - but, you paid the same price as us. hahahah
Tik Tok visa in Jomtien. I’m not sure if they gave me a deal or not because they just renewed my visa too. They quoted 4,500 for the one day drivers license but we would’ve driven to Rayong. This 2 day process happened just outside of Patts in Nong Prue.
Some funky music used for this vlog Pete.
And some jazz! I have a good time picking tunes for the videos.
Congratulations on Shinawatra the Newest Prome
Woohoo, congrats!!! 🐱
Thank you 🙏🏼
Your walks look interesting. Thanks for including us.
My pleasure. I love walking in this neighborhood.

Man, I’m glad you were able to get past that part of the testing. No, I didn’t get the perception test. Just color and speed braking, that was it.

She’s just happy she doesn’t have to do all the driving now. I lost my “I don’t have a license” excuse.

I thought you would have promoted your agent in description but you have not .. cos that’s a good price I paid 5000 for mine a year and half ago

Yeah could be but still a very good deal . Now you show license to get into most attractions and pay Thai prices not Farang prices .
@@markwilkinson2511 my girlfriend usually buys my admission in to places so I get the Thai price. She hates the double billing but I don’t mind.
Interesting mix in this video! Whose car were you driving? Do people have pet monkeys? Do you keep up with Thai politics?

Hi Pete, Can you tell me the name of the agent? I was quoted 5000 from another one.
Just do it your self for a few hundred

Lol another UA-cam how to get a licence. Step 1 pay agent.
It is super easy no need for agent
Not a how to video, more of a life vlog but eventually I will output a video on why I tend to use agents.
