Great demo, it's true not a lot of videos/info on these exist. It seems like around position 1 on the knob is either a bass cut or it's the two coils in the pickup out of phase, so it is literally 1 pickup from the T40 with the same control scheme, just with 1 knob and no switch. It's really cool how they packed so much into just 3 knobs, though I don't know when I would ever use that 1 position except for effect. Great sounding bass, hope it serves you well.

Im going to review my Schecter CV-4 next....in some (warped lol) way, its kinda a more modern Fenderish T-40: passive bass with a lot of tone shaping options by its electronics, but the pickups are in J positions......doesnt have the "built like a Tank" attribute though lol
Lol.....I kinda thought the same thing as I was making the video....I was trying to explain that Peavey was trying to combine the switching options into less controls, which he did!.....but, like you said, it's strange .....I personally would've preferred a coil tap switch (same with the T40) and volume and tone but I'll give HP credit for trying to think outside the box. I thought he did a good job, but it is very easy to figure out what that middle knob does pretty quickly. I keep mine on about 6. I like the extra bass in that mode, but I like it slightly filtered out. That middle knob is magic on this bass. I cannot get over the quality of this intrument. I just got mine yesterday so I'm in the honeymoon phase.
I just took delivery of one of these old classics. IT's a boat anchor for sure, which is really unfortunate because it's the most comfortable bass I've ever played. Perfectly contoured, great neck. And the sound is amazing. Totally love this thing. It'll be a number one apartment bass for sit down practice. But I could never gig this thing. But I am 50 years old so factor that in. Hey man! I have to tell you that the sound from the middle knob position to 1 is not that nasal, instead is very deep. The issue here is that you have to clean the potentiometer. I had the same problem with my T45, and cleaning up everything restored the real sound. Give it a check and tell me if it works! Cheers from Italy!

Hartley Peavey himself was very upset about having to close his factories and having to outsource his instruments from overseas, but the US-economy made it impossible to have a profit on every piece of musical gear his company sold. It's much the same with the car industries in Detroit, all the factories were closed down because it wasn't violable anymore to run them, since imported cars were much cheaper and in most cases much more reliable.
Hey man, thanks for this informing video! If youre open for suggestions it would be nice sound clips in the introduction. 5 minutes of talking about specs without examples that goes with the stuff youre talking about is a bit much to comprehend.
I agree.......but keep in mind that I purposely demo basses direct, un-EQ'd and dry to give the listener a more accurate idea of the raw bass sound.....on tape, I can EQ and process some of the T-45s settings to get super close to a P and, in some mixes, its hard to tell....oddly enough, its the single coil settings that I can dial in closer, not the humbucking mode....of course, your mileage may vary
at home recovering from a broken pelvis (one wheel accident) then you show an X-ray and say how heavy it is. Too heavy is always my number one deal breaker (I'm not a heavy-set guy). I have a beautiful '04 Yamaha BB five-string but damn it's heavy compared to my TRBX 5 string.
