  • The Two Dyspraxics, (Barbara Neill and Matthew Munson) discuss socialisation.

This is one of our longer videos, as it's a subject both of us are very passionate about. Social interaction can be a difficult area to navigate for people with dyspraxia, especially as it's a non-visual part of the condition.
In this episode, we discuss our own experiences of social interaction, both good and bad, and how verbal dyspraxia plays a part in it as well.

I just asked my spouse about group conversation. The answer I got was that finding the right time to interject in a conversation was still a consideration, but it didn't involve any real fear of being perceived wrongly. I think trying to fit in as "normal" is a larger concern for me because I have a hard time sort of thinking on the fly; other people can handle the noise and various distractions of a group setting better than I can so there is a possibility of decent social blunders.

Love this video, feels like you're describing me and my problems exactly.

I've been accused of being nosey in conversation. But hearing this I think I'm tying it into not knowing my cue as to when its best to ask or how to phrase it. Hmm.

I get like this a lot when in groups of people. I find that I am always interrupting people, or I would forget what I was going to say.
Barbara, it is good to see you have adapted the Matthew Munson tactic of advertising by displaying your books on the shelf in the background ;-)

Tom, well noticed - Barbara and I spent some time arranging the books specifically :-)

I guessed so. Might as well take full advantage of advertising when you can :)

If I try and join a conversation and I am ignored by everyone in the group I increase the volume a little. The trouble I get with this is that I’m fearful of increasing it too much and coming across as rude or arrogant. Volume control is a big issue for me as well as all the other points discussed.

Sorry, I can't hear your voices because of the microphone buzz.
Could do with a low pass filter of some sort, or generate a wave to cancel the noise out. Sounds like two Sine waves, if not a Square wave.
