Pursuit with a Nissan Versa - PIT / TVI Maneuver by Arkansas State Police causes costly damages

- Trooper's Narrative:
On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 9:39 am, I was patrolling Interstate 555 southbound near mile marker 46. I
observed a white Nissan Versa in front of me and learned that the vehicle was uninsured after running the license plate through
ACIC. I activated my overhead blue lights to initiate a traffic stop at mile marker 46. The Nissan Versa took the exit and
continued over the overpass on Woodspring's Road. At this point, the vehicle was traveling only at around 45-50 mph. We
continued southbound on Parker Rd at a normal rate of speed, but the driver still refused to pull over. We stopped at the red
light facing south on Parker with the intersection of Southwest Drive. I exited my patrol car and commanded the driver to pull
into the parking lot to her right. The driver did not comply, and when traffic started moving again, she accelerated across
Southwest Drive and onto the southbound ramp to I-555. I advised over the radio that I was now pursuing the vehicle.
At 9:43 am, I attempted to do a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the vehicle, and it left the roadway into the ditch on the
west side of the on-ramp. The driver was able to drive the vehicle out of the ditch and continued south on the Interstate,
reaching speeds of over 100 mph. At 9:45 am, I attempted a second tactical vehicle intervention (TVI) on the passenger side of
the Nissan Versa. As I was setting up to conduct the TVI, the driver hit her brakes, causing me to collide with her vehicle in a
side-swipe action. I applied my brakes, and at that time, I attempted the TVI, which resulted in the vehicle going into the
concrete wall on the right side of the road. After the TVI, I started fishtailing, going towards the wire barrier. At the same time,
the Nissan Versa was coming back towards me, causing me to go into the wire barrier with the driver's side of my patrol
vehicle. The vehicle came to its final rest, facing back north in the southbound lanes. I approached the vehicle with my gun
drawn and then dragged the driver out of the passenger side of the vehicle. I was able to place the driver into custody and call
for an ambulance.
The vehicle's driver was transported to St. Bernard's, where she was medically cleared before being jailed at
Craighead County Detention Center.
Her charges were Felony Fleeing, Reckless Driving, and No Liability Insurance. She also
had a Jonesboro warrant carrying a $10,000 bond (Cash Only).
During the tactical vehicle intervention (TVI), my patrol car sustained damage to the driver's side of the vehicle caused by the
cable barrier in the median. Restitution for the damaged patrol vehicle will be requested. Estimates for the damage were
approximately $16,720.94. Nothing further at this time. - Авто та транспорт

Very interesting, I didn’t know the perp could be made to pay for the damage to the ASP vehicle. Probably like getting blood from a turnip but glad they have that rule

An IQ test before the driver license test.should be mandatory .

Did I read that right? She is also being charged to pay for the damage to the squad? This should be standard for all
Yes but do you think she has the money for that? She didn't even insure her shitb -- err, her safe car.
They will ask the court for that. The court will decide if it is granted.

I'm kind of embarrassed that it took them that long to stop that shitcan.
To be fair, the Officer was giving her every chance to redeem herself and stop, but she kept playing games slowing, stopping and then speeding again, it’s a tricky situation to avoid innocent casualties, but he finally went full bore on her and pitted her at at 100mph+ after she escaped his first one on the on-ramp.
ya become a cop then see how embarrassed you are not knowing what your up against or why they flee for no reason , if they have weapons , when you signal crew , it has little to do with the physical act of TVI , and more preservation of his own life and safety and that of other road users

Thank you for your service.
Same here. Fun to drive but not a race car.
Looked like it was going pretty good, over 100mph! I would hate to be in a wreck in it!
I just commented on how stupid it is to attempt to outrun an 8-cylinder turbo-charged police cruiser with a 4-cylinder econobox.

Some people just don't get it. If you think refusing to stop is a winning strategy because you slowed down, ASP does not care. They will destroy your vehicle.

I think Trooper Byrd has set the bar so high that it's hard not to be critical of some of these other Trooper's attempted PIT maneuvers.😄
he got her the first time, she just got lucky and was able to continue, the end though it was more her side swiping him to start and he caught her in the corner out of instinct, I agree Byrd is the best buy looks like Jackson did a good job here
Bruh..
Trooper Byrd makes it look so easy that we can forget just how difficult and dangerous TVIs can be.
Yeah he hit her at 110mph and on the last second looks like she hit the brakes, but he was already following through. Really upset his car at a crucial moment. I think he was too focused on a very clean second pit to keep his car unscratched. Took too long and then it went south. Still. Got her in the end.
If you listen to all the chit chat at the end, this was his first real in-the-wild PIT. Sure, Byrd makes it look easy, but he's done hundreds if not thousands of them.

She then decided to drive pass that gas station into the wrong lanes of traffic where she was eventually crashed out (nice job keeping that car safe!).
