I still remember being blown away by his recording of "Pictures at an Exhibition" - as for this performance - I love these pieces when they are played as serious pieces of music with all the emotion required of Romantic music
Perhaps some of the finest guitar playing I have ever seen . Such variety of tone colours , range of dynamics with exquisite phrasing. Mesmerising performance . A gift from this great master to aspiring guitarists by demonstrating what can actually be achieved with a relatively simple guitar study.
He’s been recognized as a maestro for decades. I found him in a local record store about thirty years ago and he was already an highly accomplished musician. Good for you finally catching him up!
As a fingerpicking Folk guitarist, I can't play any of these classical pieces. But, I listen, I enjoy, and I respect, the sheer mind blowing ability of guitarists such as Aynur.
Long time no seeing him (and this is 2020)... There should be much more videos of the Maestro playing! Love Yamashita, arguably one the greatest guitarrist ever.
@@glennjames7107 Of any and every genre would be unfair and innacurate, but I share the sentiment of awe and admiration. And in flamenco you have of course Paco, Vicente Amigo and many others.
One of the best and most musically inspired performances I have seen in a long time. Touching and heartbreakingly beautiful. This is why I think the great spanish guitar tradition of Tarrega Segovia Williams Bream, that Yamashita maintains and continues, still holds up after all these many years. Bravo maestro.
I saw Andres Segovia a couple of years before he passed, and he literally stopped playing 3 times from the audience coughs. (Of course, it was the late 70s and half the world was still smoking.)
woah. I noticed he has tape on his 5 and 7 frets. I do the same thing, always thought it would look silly to other people, but a literal master is doing it, I feel better now x)
It's a Rinaldo Vacca, italian luthier. I tried two lattice guitars who were really good instruments (around 7-8000euros). Usually I recognize (and hate) immediately lattice guitars with their "fake" voice, but not these ones. Kazuhito Yamashita is an incredible guitarist, so moving
He’s like the Tommy Emmanuel of classical guitar! When he moves the guitar in and away from the center, gravity of his body, he’s actually using the airspace between the back of the guitar and his stomach to change, ever so subtly, the EQ of the music. He’s not playing the guitar with his hands, he’s playing his guitar with his entire body
Much better than the likes of Segovia! What a musical style, full of emotion, musicality, suspense and drama! Truly he is able to take these details and weave an ongoing story - and not just throw you with a bunch of nonsensical large blot of ink as many guitar purist from the outdated Spanish Romantic school tends to do!
With the age he downsided his virtuosity, became really transcendental. Wonderful rubato, colorful register and wide range of dynamic. I don't like the sound of his guitar so much, more a neutral tool. I miss the wooden element in the tone. He is also fighting with the intonation, a lot of shrill(?) tones, nervous tuning.
@@Rykvp I find the antic is somewhat distracting. It contributes nothing to the music. It is different with rock concert where the dancing is part of the show.
@@johnlay3040 I would agree if there was someone else that could transmit the same kind of energy and emotions I feel when listening to his rendition of Pictures at an Exhibition, without the antics. He looks like a maniac, but I don't think he could do what he does without the movements.
He sometimes makes unintended musical artifacts from hitting other strings because of his incessant moving of the guitar around. Not a fan of his excentric style at all.
Liberace of the Guitar World. Have you noticed that in nearly every single video of him playing he does a 'show' [unnecessary] mid playing tuning. It looks like a party piece. I'm trying to see what everyone likes about him but from the party tricks (fake tunings and moving around) to the often dud notes I really find it difficult to enjoy his playing. Sometimes I watch because I find it funny and i'm slightly amused how some people worship him.

Why has it taken so long for me to hear about this guy?! Unbelievable! Classical guitar normally has a pretty limited dynamic range. Not for this guy!
Taking the guitar off your body like that causes basses to ring further, hes great for knowing how vibrations work
I see a lot of people who gets astonished by this fact.

He should probably be in a rock band...
Very artful playing---encouraging to see a big hall filled for a classical guitar recital----dose not happen very often in the United States.
