Yes.. Add a field config specifically for that project.

And how to make a field mandatory before closing the Issue? I had set a mandatory field on the creation of a ticket. However, the user is still able to close the jira ticket without filing that filed

Hi Renata,
The configuration of fields must be done before creating the issue. If you a make a field mandatory the changes will not take effect for those issues which are already created as "DONE" is just a status not a CREATE button.

Hi. Can you have a custom field mandatory in one issue type and not mandatory in another issue type? For example, I have a custom field for a Story and the same custom field for a Defect. In Story, I would like this field mandatory and in the Defect, it should not be mandatory. Is this possible?

Yes!!
You can do so by creating a separate Field Config Scheme and associate it to different issue types.
